Ancient and alluring, Egypt has long been considered the heart of human civilization. With its mesmerizing mix of ancient and ultra-modern, Egypt has captured the hearts of travelers everywhere.
Ten international airports service domestic and charter flights to Egypt. Cairo International Airport is undoubtedly one of the most popular flight destinations for tourists, being located only 9 miles from the capital’s business district. Sharm El-Sheikh Airport is the country’s second-busiest airport, catering international Egypt flights as well as connections with Cairo and Luxor. It is located on the Sinai Peninsula which juts into the Red Sea. Luxor Airport services international and charter flights, making it a popular choice for travelers who want to get to the Valley of Kings. Marsa Alam International Airport makes your trip to the Red Sea a breeze, with fast security processing. Getting from your airport to your destination is made easy with buses, taxis and shuttles available to board or hire at the airports.
Egypt’s climate is primarily arid, with the exception of the Mediterranean beaches near Alexandria, the Nile Delta, and the coast of the Red Sea. Seasonal changes are restricted to slight drops in temperature and changes in winds. Winter usually sees temperatures around 60°F. Summer usually brings temperatures around 85°F. From June to September, heat waves hit a bit harder, making trips into the desert unadvisable. Nights are usually cool, so pack a sweater on your flight to Egypt or buy a heavier shawl from a local market. April and May are the ideal months to visit Egypt, so pack a swim-suit and wear loose-fitting clothing to let air circulate. Light head scarves will protect you from getting heat stroke.
Egypt is easy to get around once you have a feel for the available types of transportation. From arrival on Egypt flights, you can get to downtown via taxis, shuttles, or buses. Metros and trams are available within Cairo, Alexandria, and Heliopolis. In Sharm El-Sheikh, you can wave at a bus from any point in the city, and the driver will probably stop to pick you up. Although there are formal bus stops, it is common for people to access public transport this way. Several intercity buses run through Egypt, and most connect through Cairo and Alexandria. For a more romantic way to get around Egypt, you could board a train, go on a camel-back excursion, or hire a car to drive through the desert. Hitch-hiking is not recommended in Egypt.
Egypt has captivated the world with its glorious monuments, breathtaking geography, and cultural richness. Get inspired by a few of Egypt’s countless treasures right off the tarmac of flights to Egypt.
