Stayed at the Best Western Stuart Hotel Derby this weekend with my friend for a chill out weekend break away from work. We were very disappointed with our stay. Our beds were very hard and our pillows you could build houses with! Our room was right above the wedding reception the hotel was holding and my god we though we was in the reception it was that loud in our room. 12am can the music went off the to be woken by half the guest coming back to their rooms talking very loudly and shouting up the corridor and slamming bedroom doors then for them to be chatting away in their room to god knows when. We had a very uncomfortable and broken nights sleep. We complained to reception and they seaid they forgot to tell us our room was above the function room. We got free breakfast that's it, my friend had the cooked breakfast and it was cold. Many others were complaining about it being cold too. On leaving the hotel we herd a man on the phone to some of and he was saying the hotel was crap. We were not happy and have come home early as we were that tiered. Think I will stick to premier inn or Hilton next time
On arrival I felt a bit disappointed as the hotel in parts looks tired. Especially the carpets but I have to say the rooms were comfortable. Not luxury. A bit worn in places. I didn't use the restaurant so cannot comment on this. Breakfast was okay but I am not the best critic for this as it is not my favourite meal of the day. Cereal and fruit for me and that was good. I do have to say that the cooked breakfast did look quite good. Would I return , probably due to location. Close to Intu shopping centre.
We stayed on a Saturday night. We arrived about 1pm. We were aware we may not be able to check in until later but wanted to leave our bags. We went to reception, the receptionist called Anaya didn't even look up or acknowledge us. My husband said we had booked a room, she said it's not ready yet, still not looking up and putting letters into envelopes. Then she said I will check if your room is ready, just wait around the corner. We did but I hung back. Anaya didn't check with anyone and continued putting letters into envelopes. We went back and said can we leave our bags somewhere secure, she did help either that. The rooms were very small, the size you find in big capital cities not little old Derby. They were charging extra to have air conditioning. Anyway we checked in later and then went out for the evening. Came back in about 1am. It sounded like there was a party going on in our room but it was in the building next door. It was still very noisy with the windows shut. We asked if we could change room. We got a curt no from reception. We asked how long does this nouse go on until. The reply "until the party ends". No help whatsoever. Breakfast in the morning was okay but the dining room looked a bit tired.
ok for an overnight stay close to town centre rooms a bit dated but clean bar area basic nice breakfast ,value for money but could possibly get a bit sort of space at times free parking a bonus a close to shopping centre friendly staff hotel had wedding on but this didn't create a problem with noise or crowds in reception
We held our reunion at Derby to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the adoption in 1942 of HMS Kenya by the then town of Derby. On arrival on Friday PM we where greeted by two smart and cheerful receptionists, filled in the necessary forms and allocated our room. My wife, unable to get in or of a bath our room had a walk-in shower which was also suitable for disabled guests. The ground floor room was clean, tidy and airy, a comfortable bed and ample storage space for a weekend stay. The meals though not large were sufficient for most of our company and were all beautifully presented and full of flavour. This is one of the very few hotels were the breakfast is still table service. The table staff clean smart and very efficient. On Saturday evening we had a gala dinner which the Mayor and Mayoress attended, It was a roast beef dinner which some found the meat a little tough to cut. overall it went very well. All the meals we had were piping hot, soups, main course and desserts all well presented by a very efficient table staff. We found all the staff efficient and helpful which made our stay a pleasure. One member of staff, the food and beverage manager deserves a special mention. Sophie Allan-Bruce. An intruder gained access to the hotel due to a door having to be left unlocked for safety reasons. We had a suite away from the main hotel reception. This intruder stole a bottle of the finest "Pussers Rum" he was spotted by Sophie and fled the hotel. Knowing she would unable to replace this rum she gave chase, rugby tackled him, grazing her knees and bruising her ribs she managed to retrieve our rum. No doubt action will be taken against this villain as there were some very good pictures of him on the hotels CCTV. The hotel is only ten minutes easy walk from the city centre or a five minute walk to the railway station were you can get a bus to the city centre. A large car park at the rear of the hotel is easily accessed from the main road. The check out was again simple and efficient, we were all thanked, wished well and bid safe journeys. We will most certainly return next year for our reunion
Stayed in the hotel for one night while visiting family. The room was none smoking however the room smelt of old cigarettes and overall felt dirty. The chair in the room was covered in an oily substance so could not be used. In the morning I was disturbed as the police came running to a room on the same floor to deal with an incident. Positives include the location and parking space. I would only stay here again as a last resort and my expectations are low.
Just enjoyed another relaxing stay in a Derby courtesy of the Derby hotel. We visited last year for our anniversary & decided to return this year. It's a great location just a short stroll to the town centre with shops, bars & restaurants a plenty. Free car parking is great and the staffs welcome upon arrival always polite & friendly. Rooms are clean & comfortable with tea & coffee facilities. Bathrooms are still in need of an upgrade but they are clean. Please bare in mind how much your paying to stay here, it's excellent value for money. Restaurant food is still fab, breakfast is great. There are no lifts but ground floor rooms are available. Another great stay so thank you x
We were having a child free couple of days and decided to stay here with a wowcher deal as we were also visiting my eldest son who didn't live too far away. It was very convenient for shopping and eateries. The room we had was ok but wasn't the cleanest, the bedside cabinets and most tops were dusty (and I mean quite a layer of dust) which means it hadn't been cleaned recently! There was dust in corners of the bathroom and a hair on the bath. Room was quite stuffy even with the window open and it was a particularly warm day and we had to have the fan on all night. Breakfast was ok, we had to wait about 20 minutes before we could be seated and ordered the cooked breakfast I asked for no tomato but it turned up with one anyway and the lady next to me didn't get what she asked for. The staff at breakfast weren't very happy or friendly and seemed to take there time to clear tables! We received our cooked breakfast but the lady didn't take our empty cereal bowls and they were left till we finished. Wouldn't stay here again. Although the Indian which is not far away The Viceroy is excellent the best Indian we have ever had well worth a visit if staying here.
Not a particularly large hotel but very comfortable and convenient and within easy walking distance of the town centre. Food and restaurant very acceptable. Free parking is a bonus and very accessible to the 'dales' and other attractions.
Stayed for 2 nights B&B with a Groupon voucher. Check in was quick and easy. Bit of a trek to the room and no lift but bedroom was comfortable and had everything we needed. Plenty of tea/coffee etc and nice toiletries in well equipped bathroom, Shower was easy to use and we had nice fluffy towels. Breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice on the cold buffet table and freshly cooked full English breakfast. All the communal areas appear to have been refurbed and bar area was very comfortable. Service overall was very friendly and the hotel was well situated a five minute walk to the city centre. There are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby, as well as the railway station. Would definitely recommend.
