Really impressed with the hotel and the friendly, helpful staff, especially Tina Pearson, who helped make it a special trip. It was a perfect base for exploring Derby and only a short bus journey to Nottingham. Would not hesitate to stay here again if in the Derby area.
We stayed here for one night on Good Friday, as guests at a civil wedding ceremony. Room was available for us to check in early, having rang ahead and advised that we were part of the wedding group and wanted to get ready on arrival. Small bar area, but pleasant. Very good canapés after the wedding, and the wedding breakfast was good (but our food wasn't very hot). Evening buffet was also adequate. Bar prices reasonable. Our room was pleasant, although no TV remote control, had we wanted to watch anything. The bed was really comfortable. However, the biggest surprise was the breakfast next day - I've stayed at bigger higher-rated chain hotels with much less quality and choice than The Stuart. Excellent cold selection of cereals, pancakes, pastries, fruits, cheese, yoghurt, bagels, smoked salmon and cream cheese (rarely get this as an inclusive option), as well as hot cooked breakfast chosen from a menu and cooked to order - any item you wanted, and could have had everything if you wanted (ie you weren't restricted to just 5 items like some places). Overall, a lovely stay, nice public areas and bedrooms, and staff. The only negative is that there is no lift, so it may not be ideal for people with mobility difficulties (unless they have ground floor rooms - I'm not sure).
I am not one to leave comments on trip adviser but I just would like to thank the night porter kaden (who had unfortunately finished his shift the time we got up) for looking after us and going that extra mile it was appreciated.
Good Hotel all the staff were friendly and helpful, room was perfect for me to sleep and work. I had something different of the menu each night and all food tasted great, and the breakfast had plenty of choice either hot food or from the buffet.
For a large chain hotel I was totally disappointed with this hotel. I can deal with an outdated basic room but the service or lack of it and attitude of the Restaurant Manager was beyond unbelievable. I went away with my husband for a weekend (much needed break after our daughter passed away) and my best friend and husband as it was also her birthday that day too. 3/4 meals were inedible and the reaction from Restaurant Manager was 'never had that complaint before' then shrug his shoulder and walk off. I must say Stacey the waitress was very apologetic and sorry for his action. His people skills were zero! Contacted Best Western Complaints just to receive a 'sorry we have spoken to the member of staff involved' does not make up for our marred weekend which was special for both couples. Very upsetting.
Easy access to train station and major roads. Nice bar. Clean room with all that was needed. Breakfast was cold so I sent it back and it was still cold the second time when it returned so that was disappointing. Upon arrival the reception staff did not offer to assist with my luggage to the room and given there was no lift I struggled. Good value for money.
Start off lovely. Car park was very full but managed to get a space. Check in was smooth with friendly staff. Room was lovely and clean. Good facilities. All communal areas spotlessly clean and bright. Breakfast was nice and although cooked breakfast was tastey and freshly made I was disappointed that it wasn't buffet style where you could go back for more? You got one sausage, one hash brown, one egg, one black pudding (I opted out of mushrooms and beans but didn't get more of the other bits?) Continental breakfast selection was nice and buffet style. The biggest issue I had was that at 8.45am on the morning of my birthday, reception called the room phone waking me up, to ask if I could move my car as people were unable to get out of the car park - not because of my car that was in a parking bay! It was someone else who had parked NOT in a bay blocking the car park exit! They were apologetic but at no point were we offered anything for the inconvenience? We had added breakfast and we had a round of drinks to pay for - the obvious think for me would to have been to offer one of these on the house and then my review would have been 4 stars! The annoying thing is, you are asked to fill in a form at check in with your car Registration number on it? This form should be check to make sure the information is given? That way the idiot in the white Mercedes would have been woken up to move his stupidly parked car not someone who had parked in a bay! Spoilt my birthday :-(
My boyfriend booked us a night here for the weekend as we were going out for a meal in derby first impressions were great, the reception area is clean and modern however after check in is where it went downhill. After we had checked and had collected our things from the car we went in search of our room, the place is like a maze with no proper signage for where the rooms actually are. After walking round in circles for ages we went back to reception for them to point us in the right direction, we finally found it. The room was smaller than expected however it was clean but not as modern as the reception area it also seemed to be very dark despite having all the lights on. The tap for the hot tap in the bathroom was broken and came off in my hand when turning it on, we mentioned this on departure and were told that it would be noted in the maintenance book. The shower hose for the hotel was full of limescale clearly hadn't been changed for a while. The car park gets very busy so if you're planning on going into the town centre you're better off walking it only takes a few minutes otherwise all the spaces are filled we struggled to get a space when we returned in the evening. The staff were very friendly and polite however I don't think we would return.
Had the most fantastic night in this hotel the rooms were spacious and the bed was so comfortable, the WiFi was brill and the staff couldn't do enough for you .I mixed up when i booked and accidentally paid twice which i didn't notice and the staff came to my room and pointed out my mistake and gave me a refund then later brought me a voucher for a free cocktail for me and my husband which i thought was lovely as it wasn't there fault . Would definitely recommend staying here to any body
I stayed in this hotel for a week. The front part of the hotel is modern, the rest is in old hotel style with narrow corridors, fairly small rooms and steep stairs. And carpets everywhere. Finding your room can be a challenge, as they don't have signs showing the way. My room was small but with a good sized bathroom. The thermostat in the shower was a challenge to figure out, and water pressure was on the very low side every day. When you turn on the tap, you get good pressure, but only cold water. Turning it more, almost cuts off pressure, but eventually you get hot water, and very hot if you don't stop turning in time. I have never seen anything like this thermostat. The food is - well - creative. You can't blame the chef for not trying, but the burger with stilton had me burping stilton for a day. The chili hotdog had a bun that was warmed too much in a microwave, and therefore stone dry. Their deep fried onions taste little but cooking oil. The chili was bland and close to tasteless. The nachos were plentiful, but the accompanying chili and cheese scarce, so half your meal consisted of eating dry nachos flakes. The plates are however imaginative in terms of arrangement. The breakfast room has a buffet, that is the same each day. The smoked salmon is far from the best I have tasted, the ham is cut way too thick, but the rest is OK. They have some herbal bread there each morning, and that is really good. I never ordered the full English breakfast, so I can't be the judge of that. My bed was hard and lumpy, giving me a rather disturbed sleep, but I have had worse beds in hotels. My room was quiet and facing the back yard. There was a party going on there on the Friday evening, but all was quiet by 23:00. Internet was very unstable, usually I had to reconnect 2-3 times during an evening. The hotel TV had a smaller screen than my PC at home, but the number of channels was very good. The staff smiles when they look at you, but the smile quickly fades. Some of the staff in the breakfast restaurant seems outright grumpy. Their "Liquid" bar is OK, and I preferred to have my meals there over their main restaurant. There was a young lady there (Albanian?) that despite some language challenges went out of her way to make the guests feel welcome. All in all, this is a hotel I will most likely not visit again. I am in doubt if I should rank it 2 or 3, but landed on 3. The key reason is the good location, the friendliness of most of the staff and that the chef at least tries to be creative with his dishes. But quite frankly, there are better hotels close by.
