Steigenberger Hotel and Spa Krems

4.5 out of 5.0

The Steigenberger provided a great frame for a business meeting: inspiring location and views into the vineyards, friendly service, good facilities. Not the most modern, but definitely good standard. Lunch and dinner options are limited but of great quality. I am sure this could also be a nice spot for a relaxing weekend!

A small hotel in the small town of Krems, near Vienna. Simple, clean rooms with a nice balcony. Service, usual for hotels 3-4 stars. The spa and pool are small and crowded with visitors. In general, the hotel did not impress me.

Our staying was great, the hotel service and location are excellent. Especially I like the wellness area. I am looking forward to come back with my family in autumn again. you can save, several dollars here... As cold the weather was outside as warm was the welcome in this hotel. From reception to housekeeping - just honestly friendly professionals around. Beautiful spa with great view into the wineyards. Excellent kitchen (menu changing daily!) and wine offerings. We did relax and enjoy a lot. Many thanks for this amazing experience.

nice location relax and good feel, this is the name of the steigenberger hotel krems-cocktail. top quality of wines joins the christmas atmosphere and the relax due to the spa. all together ensure an amazing stay

This is a beautiful hotel with good location, good view from the room, perfect/luxury breakfast, excelent view from outside swimming pool, warm atmosphere, the hotel staff are friendly. Hotel has own garage.

Relatively modern mid-size hotel (also used for conventions and seminars) with good wellness area - pool, Sauna & spa. Excellent breakfast, restaurant offers a la carte of full/half board (both with high quality selections). Several local draft beers and wide selection of high quality local wines - Krems is close to some of the best white wine areas like Wachau, Langenlois or Wagram.

I spontaneously booked a night at this hotel 3 days before our visit, having filtered for approx 100 km from Vienna and indoor pool. Steigenberger Krems came up and I decided to give it a try, having had positive experiences with this chain before. I was not disappointed. What really surprised me that it was actually pretty full (so much so that all beds in the pool area were taken when we went there at 4:30 p.m. However, it was completely empty at 8:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning when guests were obviously either asleep or already at breakfast). Overall, the wellness area of the hotel exceeded my expectations and we enjoyed both the indoor pool and outdoor whirlpool with view of the vineyards. We did not try the sauna, but I saw that there were two different types. There is also a little tea/coffee station in the pool area and a waiter passed through with complimentary fruit skewers, which I found a very nice gesture. Having read reviews here that the hotel has deals with insurance company makes sense as quite a few young families with children were among guests which would not strike me as the usual demographic for this type of hotel. Our room was very nice with the exception of two separate beds (hello, gap in the middle of 2 mattresses!), which is NOT what I call a "king bed" and other minor details, such as the flimsy hairdrier attached to a drawer in the bathroom, which was of the type where you need to keep a finger on the power button in order to operate it. Also, like in so many Austrian hotels, there was no kettle in the room, which is a standard feature in even lower category hotels in most countries (apart from Central Europe, it seems). I don't mind paying for tea in a hotel restaurant at all, but I still prefer to drink a cup of my own tea in my PJs before going to bed or first thing in the morning. Lighting both in the room and bathroom was great, which is something so many hotels unfortunately get wrong. I would not have minded a few extra hooks in the bathroom to hang wet towels. Staff was very friendly and check in was smooth. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but visited the restaurant for an afternoon snack (cake and toasted sandwich, both very tasty) and breakfast. My expecations for breakfast were pretty high as this was something that was highligthed in most reviews. I liked the fact that breakfast is served until 12:00 and there really was a great variety of very tasty food. What I did not like so much was the rather cramped seating situation and the coffee, which was seriously off. I tried both the "standard" coffee and a Melange and had my friend try it to confirm my taste buds were not just confused by something I just ate. Let's hope the coffee machine just had a "bad day". Be that as it may - minor details aside, we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely revisit, preferably in summer when the outdoor pool is open, too

We visited for a 1 night/ 2 days in October. We arrived at the hotel at 11 am and were very happy to find out that our rooms were ready to check into (check in time 3pm). We were greeted very friendly and shown into to the rooms. Next thing we headed straight to the spa, which looks into the terraced vinyards. The jacuzzi and the pool are lovely. The "no bikini allowed" mixed saunas are a bit shocking to the non-local visitors;the saunas have beautiful views as well. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, everything very fresh and tasty. Would happily recommend to anyone and come back for longer! Beautiful area for walks, hikes, mountain biking and of course plenty of white wine!

Nice facilities, clean, and friendly. Beautiful view, but 10 minutes walk to city. Spa is excellent. Food and wine is more ordinary. Miss the final touch from the Restaurant. Still recommendable, and a good alternative for families.

I'd expected a lot better price/service level than experienced in this, rather dated and not so clean, hotel. Everything felt a little bit fuzzy and the bathroom hygiene could be a lot better. I mean a lot! Although the breakfast seemed to be varied and on a quit large scale, unfortunately the quality of the food en drinks were average. It was like 'keeping up appearances' instead of offering a genuine and healthy breakfast (of choice), which could be easily sourced for a great deal in the local market.
