Excellent location, near town but not too close, really nice beach, great local restaurants within 2 blocks. We stayed in a Blues room over the water, views were extra nice. Room as expected but have a feeling the room is a compromise with the view from pics I saw of other room types. Having deck on the water was great but came with 2 negatives, the bugs were extra bad making me wonder if they didn't spray there (bugs were minimal on the rest of the property) and they could do a better job of picking up trash in the area between room decks and the water wall (people could also not throw trash but that's another matter!). We only ate one meal on property, a lunch, service was a bit slow but food was good.

We loved the Avila Beach Hotel. The beach is beautiful white sand with no seaweed or rocks as in many of the other beaches in Curacao. They created a cove with breakwater so you can snorkel easily and enjoy the calm water but easily swim out to open water. The staff is so friendly and genuinely happy to take care of their guests and most seem to love their jobs. Food was pretty good overall (esp. breakfast) with other excellent restaurants in walking distance. We would definitely stay at the Avila if we go back to Curacao. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay.

We loved the Avila beach hotel. We were given fresh orange juice upon check in. The staff was very friendly and courteous. We had an Octagon room on the second floor and it was lovely, complete with covered balcony. The only thing I would caution people about is the bathroom is basically part of the main room, just separated by a glass partition, so if you need privacy, tell your significant other to hand out on the balcony for a little while. The hotel has 2 restaurants and 2 bars and a cafe for breakfast and lunch. The breakfast buffet was very nice, just a bit pricey. The poolside bar was great for lunch and the blues restaurant and main restaurant were great dinner choices. The beach was very nice and lagoon was great for swimming. The pool was a little cool, but still very refreshing. The grounds were lovely. You could even rent snorkeling gear. It was a perfect spot for a relaxing vacation. We even took a trip to Klein Curacao, a small private island reached by boat--they picked us up right at the hotel.

We, as a family, found the hotel very pleasing to stay at, particularly, for families. The facilities are very good and well-kept. However, the lobby should be equipped with air conditioning in-full given the heat and humidity in Curacao. The guests would definitely appreciate it as well the staff working behind the desk, something I found totally unfair to them.

Eventhought I went for business, I wasvery pleased that the hotel was in very well conditions preserving its style and the rooms in the Octagon building are modern and confortables. All the staff is very kind and talk 4 languages! The carpaccio and picanha at Blue's are delicious! Beautiful sightseeings from my room

The Avila hotel was the perfect location. It was a 20 minute walk to downtown. It is safe to walk at night. The beach is perfect and you can walk in and snorkel. Beach chairs and umbrellas available at no charge located next to the bar.

Great hotel, we stayed in one of the Octagon suites and have no complaints.

For a top hotel with top pricing, this hotel just didn't quite get customer service. The only person that cared about us was the man that looked after our suitcases until our room was ready at 4pm. I know we arrived much earlier in the day, but we were hot and tired.. offer us a glass of water or if we wanted to sit by the pool a towel. The room was small and borderline clean. The list goes on, all in all Stay somewhere else.

The staff members with whom I spoke--at the reception and in the restaurants and bars--were all wonderful. Also the food and drinks I had were all very good--even a weird vegetarian pasta with carrots(!) in it. Somehow it worked. I also enjoyed the Thursday evening jazz evening. The room cleaning staff, though, need more supervision. My room, especially the bathroom, was never thoroughly cleaned, and there was usually crud and sand in the corners and I could see unidentifiable stuff on the walls that hadn't been wiped down. Also, while the bathrooms look nice, they're hazardous. Water from the shower leaks out onto the floor and the whole room becomes a slippery pool--and there's also the risk of running into the glass shower divider, if you're not paying attention. (I didn't, but staff hung a towel there to alert me.) Further, cleaning staff never ensure you have the same number of towels each day. I also had a problem in the first room I was assigned (Belle Alliance) because it was near the parking lot and way too noisy. Staff kindly changed this for me. I was disappointed that all of the historic charm was gone from the rooms (except the antique air conditioner that was sometimes loud). I usually turned off the air conditioner, but sometimes I returned to the room and the system had been set on high--nearly flash freezing me as I entered the room. Overall I liked the hotel and I found the staff members really friendly and nice, but the hotel is expensive, so I expected to be more comfortable in my room--and I worried about injuring myself in the bathroom. I also did not appreciate the temperature adjustments.

Private small beach, take lots of money, Food not good.

rooms are updated and roomy. could use a bit more comfort in amenities, i.e. area rug, more comfortable bed, better pillows, in-room furniture upgrades. all in all we were very happy with the location and size of the room. also included nice size patio with marvelous ocean view. beach front was awesome with plenty beach chairs. i would suggest renting/offering sports activities (i.e. snorkeling equipment, paddle boards, sail catamarans, etc. need to improve beach side menu and lower prices. cafe closed too early. staff was friendly.

Great for a quiet getaway at the beach, great beach, wonderful ocean, hotel food choices were OK, town is walkable but further than you may want.

great location to the downtown area. it's right on the beach which was so convenient! several restaurants to choose from on the grounds and all of the staff are accommating and friendly.

We enjoyed everything at Avila - but, a true standout was the effort made by the staff to accommodate all requests. In particular, Alice, the head of the housekeeping staff, checked with us multiple times to assure that we were having a successful and comfortable visit. We were!

The hotel has great location. it is located very close to the main city (10 min walk) and close to a few of the better restaurant you can find - just a minute walk. The beach is great and the room is modern. What else can you ask...

This is a beautiful hotel with clean, quiet, comfortable rooms and great staff. The beach at the hotel is fine, and the snokeling there is good--though not terrific. One can walk to Willemstad, but it is not a pleasant walk, and I would not do it at night, so people take free shuttle, or taxi, or use a rental car. There are five eating places at the hotel. The food, although very good, seemed a little expensive. Think about eating away from the hotel sometimes. Food in the mini bar was very expensive. A bottle of water that costs $5 in the room could be bought for $1 in a supermarket about seven blocks away. I never figured out the correct tip procedure. A 12 percent service charge and 5 percent tax is added to every purchase at the hotel and yet they always indicate a line for a tip. When we were there, most of the people staying at the hotel were Dutch, and we never got into any conversations with any of them (they all were able to speak English). You may have more success.

We stayed in the Belle Alliance wing of the hotel. Our first room was on the first floor, not very clean and had a musty smell. We stopped a housekeeping supervisor to ask a question about the room safe. When she came in our room, she asked if we were happy with it. No, it wasn't really what we expected. She immediately moved us up to the 3rd floor, a room with a balcony facing the ocean. What a difference! We had a beautiful view and the room was clean and pleasant. If we had stayed in the first room our impression of Avila would have been completely unsatisfactory. The pool was very nice and the beach had every amenity. It was a very quiet, relaxing atmosphere. The food at "Blues" was just ok. It would have been nice to have free wifi in the rooms. But that wouldn't stop us from returning. We would absolutely stay here on our next trip to Curacao. (Just not on the first floor)

Comfortable, quiet hotel. Few if any American guests. Most guest from the Netherlands. Good food at the restaurants. Location within walking distance of the downtown (Punda) area. Very small beach which is typical of all hotels in Curacao.

After a long trip, we were greeted with kind words and a cold juice drink at check in. Our room was amazing (we had the octagon deluxe), it was all tile with a two large sliding glass doors opening to a spacious balcony with two chairs to enjoy the view of the ocean. The food at the main restaurant was very nice. I truly enjoyed the breakfast buffet. It had a wide range of both Dutch and American choices, with a chef to prepare eggs to order or a tasty omelet. Lunch and dinner were equally yummy with a weekly special and about 12 mains to choose from. The service is European so the pace is a bit more drawn out than what Americans may be used to (we happened to enjoy the slower pace). The only issue we had was with the number of children at the hotel. We went during the hight of the European summer holiday season. As such there were many families at the hotel. All the children we very well behaved and did not bother us much. However, they did dominate the pool area. As someone who enjoys leaving the ocean for the pool at times, I actually never used the pool. In addition to the large number of children at the pool, it's hours were 7:00am to 8:00pm. We found this to be a bit restrictive. I love to swim at night and this was not possible at this hotel. Although the issues with children and the pool were drawbacks, we loved the Avila! It was true luxury with just the right amount of relaxation.

I was born on the island and took my friend there. Avila is a beautiful hotel and maintains the charm of the island. It is very centrally located close to Punda and Otrabanda and other attractions. We had a very nice room with beautiful ocean view and a small kitchenette. We could not have asked for more. Staff was friendly and very accommodating. The only thing I did not like was the temperature in the room. You had to keep it very cold in order to prevent condensation on the floors.
