We had a very nice stay at the Ennerdale Country House Hotel. De service was great, the food was good. And we enjoyed a very nice New Year's eve package. With a great performance by a nice artist. The room was clean and well equiped. We liked the surroundings. We made some great trips from the hotel and the staff was very helpful with the planning.
Just got back from a couple of days in the lakes, spent one night at the Ennerdale. Room great value, had everything we needed. I did have some reservations regarding our room being near to main road (possible noise), but this did not prove an issue. Hotel was very nice, again had everything we needed, staff very friendly and exceptionally helpful. If we are ever that way again I would not hesitate to use again. Thanks, Mark and Carol, East Yorkshire
Good to once again return to the Ennerdale. I was able to get B&B for less than half the price I have paid for in the past. What a welcoming scene, log fire, Christmas tree and decs and helpful staff. Breakfast request of poached eggs, perfectly cooked. Attentive waitress. Hopefully returning soon.
The hotel itself is lovely but it the staff that make the experience. Jackie just on her own can make an special occasion absolutely perfect. Allan also chips in and can natter all day about the bar and his whiskey/champagne/brandy collection.
The Ennerdale Hotel was spot on in every way. It far exceeded our expectations as we have paid much more for an inferior hotel in the past. The staff were incredibly friendly and polite. Nothing was amiss! We travelled with our dogs and were given a room which had doors leaving straight out to the garden which was a thoughtful bonus to our stay. Our dogs were treated like royalty and treated as guests themselves! The staff are an absolute credit to this well kept, clean and welcoming hotel. Every member of the team was happy and genuinely kind and accommodating without being false or over 'pleasant' or fake. The breakfast was fantastic and cooked to order which great choices to suite every appetite and age. Really a fantastic stay. Thanks so much!
This was our second Christmas break here. We enjoyed ourselves so much last year we booked early for this year. From check in to check out we were made to feel so welcome. The staff are wonderfully attentive and pleasant. They worked very hard to ensure all had a marvellous Christmas break. The food was very good and the menu varied enough to suit most tastes. Our evening meal on Christmas Eve had been pre-booked from a menu sent to us with our booking confirmation and was very good indeed. Christmas day starts with a hearty Cumberland breakfast (if you so wish) to set you up for the day. The traditional Christmas dinner was superb and enjoyed in good company. A buffet is laid on on Christmas night for those who still have room for a bit of food with a fun quiz organised to exercise the grey matter. Prizes too! Boxing day brings it's own little treat. A good breakfast to begin with then, mid morning, a short coach ride to the Ravenglass and Eskdale railway station at Ravenglass. Then it's all aboard "La'al Ratty", the narrow gauge steam locomotive, for the scenic ride to Dalegarth Station for a light lunch of soup and a roll and a warming cuppa. On return from the trip on "La'al Ratty" there are mince pies, mulled wine, coffee and tea in the bar. The evening meal on Boxing day is, once again, excellent. By this time we had made many new friends and spent the evening in the bar chatting the evening away. Ordinarily, the 27th is breakfast then check out and journey home but we chose to stay an extra day and explore the local area on our own for the day. Rather than find somewhere else to eat on the evening we dined in the hotel. Again, the food was delicious. We breakfasted and checked out on the 28th and said our goodbyes to the staff. I cannot stress how professional and friendly the staff are. They worked tirelessly, giving up their Christmas, so that we could enjoy ours. To them all, a great big "Thank You".
If you are ever looking to stay near Cleator then I can recommend this location. The rooms were clean and with adequate facilities. The building was well maintained and although dated it is an old hall and a super modern look would be really out of place and would look daft. It could do with the odd touch up here and there bit that is to be expected and I really did have to look around. Breakfast was cooked nicely but we has a few problems with it. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and it was served on two slices of bread which unfortunately made the bread soggy. My wife ordered scrambled egg on toast and got a plate of scrambled egg and no toast, luckily we had saved some toast from earlier and when she asked for more toast she got some. The grounds are well kept and make for a pleasant after breakfast walk. Easy for parking which is both well lit and convenient for the building.
I have recently stayed here for many weeks on business and found the quality of the rooms vary somewhat. The better rooms are behind the kitchen, compared to the rooms on the first floor. Room 28 was the best room I stayed in, and room 18 was the worst. I have stayed in rooms 4, 12, 18, 27, 28, 31 and found all the mattresses to be of poor quality. Rooms generally lack good maintenance with lights not working, some bathroom floor tiles broken, mouldy bath panels, drainage smells, and wall tile grouting breaking off. My last room (18) had a toilet so close to the wall that it was difficult to use, with the toilet roll holder and radiator in the way. Whilst in this room I was disturbed by noises below coming from the staff entrance, and from the main road traffic. This starts very early from 5.00am onwards. The food quality was generally good but the last week I stayed I had burnt fish and chips, dried steak and ale pie and then on my last morning the egg was not cooked properly! It seemed like the kitchen staff were having a bad week!!! I have to say all the staff members were always friendly and polite. The room cleaners changed the towels daily and made the bed. The room prices seemed to fluctuate quite a lot from week to week, between £75 to £120 for single occupancy; with the latter being way to high for what I got. The hotel could benefit from improvements and updates to the rooms and hopefully this will happen sooner than later. In the meantime, and as I am travelling here on a long term basis, I have now decided to try other hotels in the area.
Stayed here for one night and regretted not booking another night!! We parked up and thought omg what have we done we walked into the hotel and was amazed! Clean friendly welcoming definitely one lf the nicest places ive stayed. The food was excellent the chef even told us that if we wanted something that wasn’t on the menu he would Russell something up for us. We went to visit Saint Bees beach as it was recommended to us by a friend and it was beautiful!! I would 100% go back just such a shame we didn’t have longer to explore the surrounding areas.
It was easy to find and when we found it, we loved it! Our room was big and clean. Staff super friendly. Food was great too. Around you there is only silence and large green fields. There are so many lakes within 10/15 minutes driving. It's a pity it was only for a short weekend!
