Stayed at the Ellerthwaite Lodge for my birthday weekend. We arrived on a Thursday at about 1.30pm for 2 nights. We received a lovely warm welcome at reception. Check in is 2pm and check out is 10.30am. Once checked in we were told we had been upgraded to the four poster room (room 1). This was a very nice large room at the front of the lodge. Lovely large four poster bed with a nice thick warm duvet. Bathroom had a separate shower and bath and two sinks. Breakfast was served from 8.30am with a variety of full English, cereal and fruit. The staff were very accommodating if you wanted a specific breakfast. The lodge is approx 20 minute walk into Bowness-on-Windermere where you’ll find lots of pubs, restaurants and shops and also the lake. It is a great location to get in the car too and drive to other areas and lakes. The front door at the lodge is locked at 9pm but we were given a key to let ourselves in after 9pm. Overall we would def stay here again when visiting the lakes.
Spent 2 nights here just before New Years Eve. The assets here are most definately the staff. Receptionist welcomed us and booked us in smoothly and offered lots of advice. The morning breakfast staff couldn't have been more welcoming and were very efficient with service. Breakfast was plentiful in a lovely room. We were on the very top floor which was quite a climb but not a problem for us but would be for older or less able people. The room had everything required and was a quirky shape. The location, Main rooms and staff are all great. With a very small amount of work the room would also be that as just needs a little bit of TLC. Will definately return.
The decor is completely outdated, floorboards creak everywhere, funny smell in the rooms, really draughty, the wifi signal is terrible (for this day and age) tv signal was shocking (unless it was BBC1) bed was comfy but that's not enough to make it worth staying, breakfast not served until 830. Won't be returning here..especially when there's so many other places available.
This was our 2nd trip to the lodge and the 2nd time we were allocated room 2 which was a twin. There was a strange unpleasant smell whenever we entered the room but we couldn't work out what it was. The room is small with a very small ensuite accessed through a very slim doorway. There was a long hair at the head of the bath and several very small hairs which looked like someone had shaved and washed the razor over the bath. Located on the ground floor a few metres away from reception there is an issue with noise. However due to the location and the breakfast, we were happy to overlook these issues as we spend very little time in the room. The price is competitive compared to other places in the area but would love to have a different room and progress from the noisy small ground floor room to the first floor if we visit again.
Had a really pleasant stay, upgraded to room 8 which had a four poster bed. Comfortable bed, clean, complimentary toiletries and plenty of tea/coffee. All the staff especially Helen were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, choice of hot breakfast, cereals, fruit etc. And poached eggs were perfect! Again, Helen was the perfect hostess, making sure everyone was happy with their food. Really cosy atmosphere. Can’t speak for the other rooms but we had no complaints at all during our stay so surprised at the previous negative comments on here. Will we stay again? Yes!
turned up on the Friday .was able to book in straight away .had a four poster room good in size very clean bathroom was a good size, on the first floor on the landing there is a great sitting area ,leather settees were great to lounge on .breakfast was good in the morning a very good choice cooked food to your liking. it was a five minute walk to restaurants and bars . good off road parking at the b&b
Good hotel Stayed for 3 nights 15-18 November 17. Lovely warm welcome from Fiona who greeted us and showed us to our room. We stayed in room 7 which was pleasant enough but I will echo other reviews in saying it was getting a little dated and hubby spotted the cobwebs on the ceiling. Bathroom spotless and toiletries provided for you a nice touch. Steve who greeted us for breakfast next day very friendly and the breakfast really set you up for the day, plenty of choice and cooked fresh for you. Situated ideally for Windermere and only 10-15 min walk down to Bowness.
A truly lovely bed + breakfast Hotel to spend the night (or 2 if you have the time)! One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in away from home - and hence, such a good night's sleep to be had. Conveniently located a little out of the main Windermere town precinct, on the main road leading down to Bowness-on-Winderemere. About a 10 min walk from the Windermere train station all in all - not too bad at all, if you don't have your own transportation! Friendly staff + a full English breakfast that kept me going all day literally! I'd return back there at a drop of a hat!
We have stayed at lots of guest houses and hotels In Windermere and enjoyed one or two night stays but this time we were disappointed as we were on the ground floor, room 5 which was very dated and shabby. The net curtains were dirty. The very noisy sliding door to the bathroom was awful and the taps which moved round when you turned the tap on were terrible and the hot tap was dangerously hot, also the extractor fan wasn't working and no window in the bathroom. The leather headboard had bits of leather missing where your head rests and was bubbled from wear. The staff were very friendly at breakfast but I have never been offered variety pack cereals for my breakfast so chose the only fruit option which was grapefruit and orange. We ordered no sausage for our ful english breakfast but two poached eggs instead which had clearly been done in a lot of vinegar and watery on the plate. The room upstairs to sit and relax was nice. I have to say the lady that greeted us was lovely and helpful. Whoever owns the property can be very proud of their staff but need to look at updating at least this room.
Just returned from a two night stay at this hotel for my birthday. On arrival, we received a nice welcome & was directed to our room. The decor in the room was tired with thick cobwebs in many corners & hard mattress. To add to this, the walls appear paper thin as we could hear every word of next doors conversation! Breakfast the next morning was average..while I enjoyed a full english my husband ordered poached egg & bacon, which had to be returned as the egg was raw. We did receive an apology from the staff but it had put us off ordering another. Overall, we were disappointed with our stay; the pictures online are not realistic of reality which is a very tired establishment & we will not be returning.
