Excellent hotel, a little dated inside rooms but the service is brilliant. Nice views, good location but car hire required if travelling about a lot. Shuttle service from hotel to nearby attractions makes you feel valued as a guest. Swimmining pool, gym, and beach are splendid. I would recommend the all inclusive option. The food is good and choice is good. The one annoying thing was the photographers that took photos, without sometimes asking, then charged a lot to buy your own photos them at the end of the stay. I suggest you take a good camera and take your own. The views are incredible so worth it.
We came for 4 nights. Due to the fact we have never been is SARDINIA ,we spent most of the time outside the hotel snd didn’t check the beach and the hotel facilities Our room wasn’t face to the sea but guess it’s because order was booked via travel agency at last moment There were many families with small kids as well as middle age couples Breakfast was good and vary Great view from the terrace where we eate breakfast The stuff is very friendly and speak English fluently We received welcome drink which was nice after 3. Hours drive from Cagliari Airport We ate dinner one night at the hotel At one of his restaurant It was very good but prices were extremely high We paid 130 for 2 pasta 2 appetizer and bottle of wine ( we drank the same wine elsewhere at 20€ , here we paid 38€) Service was good
The food was excellent, very nice location in front on the beach. Calm and family friendly. Nice also to have a bus that took us to porto rotondo for free. I would recommend this hotel and I definitely would go back.
My wife and I stayed for five nights in September. We were warmly received by the staff and we enjoyed a complimentary welcome drink in the bar. Sadly that was the only alcohol we enjoyed during our stay because the prices are 'hard to swallow'. The room was nice and clean and the sea view from our balcony was amazing. The bathroom was a little dated with an interesting cylindrical shower. Sadly the most interesting feature of our shower, the many water jets, did not work despite mentioning it to reception twice. We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfasts which are buffet style. The breakfast spread was ample and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Other than that we did not eat any other meals on the property because the prices are very high. Fortunately we had a rental car and we were able to drive into Olbia and Porto Rotondo and other places to enjoy restaurants there. The hotel has a nice swimming pool which we enjoyed and a nice beach area. Despite the little annoyances we did enjoy our stay.
I have rated this hotel as very good mainly because of the lovely position and very pleasant accommodating staff so I will start with the good points. We were fortunate enough to be able to change our room to a sea view for quite a substantial extra cost but it was worth it - especially after having read the review below. The room had a beautiful view although the balconies are not very private and often smoke wafted into our room from those people smoking on their balconies which was extremely unpleasant. It would be great if there was a block of rooms where this was not permitted for those who do not wish to inhale the smoke of others! There is a very pleasant walk to the beach, where again the staff are very attentive and the water is crystal clear. The only downside here is that there are traders walking up and down all day and although this is not the fault of the hotel it does disturb your privacy. There are also a group of very noisy ladies who offer beach massage but when they don't have anything to do they constantly talk in very loud voices - again disturbing the tranquillity of the beach. The breakfast is quite poor as there is absolutely nothing hot except if you order eggs although the fruit is excellent and there is plenty of cold food and bread. The breakfast did not change in 10 days. Just to give an example there was a choice of four slightly different focaccias, some chopped up sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes with a sort of pesto topping - all of which were cold. We ate once in the buffet in the evening which was adequate although extremely expensive for self service. We also ate in the A La Carte restaurant which had lovely food and very professional staff but because of its open position had kids running back and forth which took away any intimacy and privacy which was such a shame as it could have been quite perfect. Management please take note and make this restaurant more intimate and private . Our room was very clean and our maid was excellent. The room décor was not particularly good with some rather odd paintings and the television was placed in such a way that it obscured a corner of the mirror which look quite wrong. There is a lovely bar with a super outside area looking onto the gardens and surrounding beauty - that is, of course, if you are not forced to go inside because of the smokers - and there are many of them. The pool area is rather bland and full of noisy kids - bearing in mind that we came in October especially to avoid the noise! If you wish to see Sardinia it is a must to hire a car otherwise you are stuck in the Hotel and obligated to eat there as there are no restaurants in walking distance. I have rated this hotel as very good because of its position and staff but it is certainly no way near a 5 star but if you are a smoker with children it may be perfect for you.
We visited this hotel for 4 days whilst on our honeymoon 2 weeks ago. It’s positioning on Marinella Beach is perfect and very beautiful. The staff are very polite. But unfortunately what let this hotel down for us was our room and the food. Our room was very clean and furnished nicely, but it was a very small square without any natural daylight in the room or en suite, (other than the door that goes out to the balcony, which you had to keep the heavy net curtain over as it was so overlooked, meaning there wasn’t much light in the room) which sadly made it feel very cell like. We didn’t raise this room issue with management as both my partner and I are of the opinion it shouldn’t take a complaint to get a good room, it should be a set standard. But this wasn’t what was so disappointing for us, as really you don’t spend much time in the room. What we found very disappointing was the food and the free shuttle service. The shuttle service terminates at 8.10pm which means you have to go out for an early dinner to use this service or get a taxi back (which cost us €20), our holiday may have just been in the ‘off season’ but we hadn’t been made aware of this. I also came back to our room early one day to see housekeeping had just been and was working in the next room. When I went into our room I noticed that my mobile phone had moved and been unplugged from my charger and a strange phone was plugged in instead. A few moments later a very embarrassed housekeeper knocked on the door to ask for her mobile back…. Of the 4 restaurants at the hotel, 2 closed the day we arrived as it was now no longer ‘peak season’, again we hadn’t been made aware of this, and as the hotel is so far from the town you are a fairly captive audience to use the hotel restaurants. But the biggest let down for us was the standard of food. The standard for the price was simply not good enough for a '5 star' hotel. The evening buffet was €60 per head which was ridiculous for the calibre of food offered, we are more than happy to spend good money on food and regularly do, but the quality just wasn't there. We did manage to eat in the beach restaurant on our first evening, again this wasn't great and very expensive for what we had. The pool lunch menu consisted of several paninis which were exceptionally poor quality (slightly soggy white bread with unmelted chunks of mozzarella with a small amount of ham) and cost €30 for two and a bottle of water. We left feeling very disappointed and simply, ripped off for what we had paid. After our stay at this hotel, we went on to our next hotel which classes itself as a 4 star, in comparison to our new hotel, this hotel is a 2 star at best in a 4 star setting. Such a shame.
The hotel is the perfect place for our stay with our small child. The clean beach and the incredible blue sea is very beautiful and only a few minutes walk from our room. The food is very good (buffet) and with excellent quality. But the best thing at this place is it's excellent staff at the beach and the waiters, who are very sweet, professional and welcomed us always with great pleasure. The chef was at all times pleased to help me find the gluten free dishes. A special thanks to Andrea and Luigi, who our toddler will sadly miss and to Salvatore who made me a special (gluten free) dessert- the best Zabaione I've ever tried.
Stayed here for 1 week in early September. Overall we were not that impressed with the hotel although there were some things we were happy with. First the good; -Lovely location amidst beautiful scenery. -very nice clean beach area. - beautiful gardens and landscaping. -lovely pool area which felt very relaxed. -food choices were acceptable although repetitive but everything cooked and replenished well. -room was cleaned well and toiletries refilled every day. Now the not so good; -we had emailed ahead to inform we were celebrating a special anniversary during our visit. The admin team took over 2 weeks to respond to say it would be noted but iour anniversary was never acknowledged during our stay not even verbally...disappointing and a missed opportunity to impress us from the outset. - we had booked as far back as Feb this year and had even managed an early booking discount and we had also upgraded to a Superior Sea View room but the allocated room was on the ground floor, very dark, slightly damp smelling and quite small, not even room for the sofa which was listed on the amenities for this class of room. We had no where to sit other than a high backed chair at the desk or the rather uncomfortable Directors chairs on the patio. We asked immediately we arrived if it were possible to change the room especially as we had made our booking so far in advance and were told a suite would become available later that day at a cost of a further €30 per room per night if we wished to upgrade yet further (needless to say this suite was in a very busy area of the hotel and certainly wouldn't have been worth the extra money so we declined). We were reassured the situation would be monitored and we would be advised if a different room in our category came up but not once during our stay was there a further conversation. Another missed opportunity to satisfy us! - the hotel drinks are expensive....which we had expected having seen previous reviews but to be expected to pay for water in both our room and at dinner, in a Hotel which classes is itself as 5* is certainly unacceptable. Especially since the tap water is not drinkable being very cloudy and slightly brown. Water is €4 per bottle (the same brand is available in the local store at €1.75). Guests are also expected to provide their own water whilst using the gym!! No water cooler or complementary bottles available ....not sure about the spa as we didn't visit it....but I would have thought that as they charged an entry fee there to guests already paying to stay at the hotel it would not be at all surprising if they did! In summary although we very much enjoyed our first stay in Sardinia and saw quite a bit of Costa Smeralda in our hire car, whilst we were actually in the hotel we constantly felt as though there were lots of opportunities for them to earn extra from us but very little that made us feel like we were in the normal 5* class of hotel we have previously stayed in throughout Italy. They will really need to try a lot harder to take those opportunities to impress guests like ourselves if they are wanting recommendations here on TA and through the wider travel community.
We spent one week at Abi d'Oru and were quite happy. Room, beach, breakfast and service were quite good. The only negative thing was the buffet in the evening dinner. Two days were OK and after the third day always the same food this is not acceptable for a '5' stars hotel! In 2016 we could eat main course 'à la carte' and was much better. Even the waiters do not find this new concept good! We will definitively not come again sorry😢. Anyway many thanks to all the team. You were wonderful. Michel Thiévent Lugano
Enjoyed our stay at Hotel Abi d'Oru. The hotel has a private beach with free sun beds and the staff is friendly. Very spacious, the property is large and expands to the beach. Parking is free. Would definitely recommend.
