Reception staff were very helpful and polite. Rooms were comfortable and clean, although the walls are paper thin, I had read these comments from other travellers and thought it couldn't be that bad, but it is! When we first arrived we had a group of single men in the rooms around us and I did not appreciate them returning from their night out at 2.30am and discussing what a great night they'd had. It was like they were in the room with us! Fortunately, they left after the second night and it seemed to be families near us, so no more problems with noise. The air con was fine, although you needed to ensure that the balcony doors were shut before it would operate. Food at this hotel is excellent. All my children were happy with the selection (even my daughter who can be very fussy!). Even though it was peak season, we never had a problem getting a table. I was concerned that the pool would be too small for such a large hotel but there was never a problem and we were able to get sun beds quite easily. There is a roof terrace and bar only for adults which must have helped. There was never a problem with queues at the bar. The staff were very efficient and friendly and they certainly don't water down their drinks. The card system took a bit of getting used to, but works well. You are given a card for your glasses when you arrive. You hand these in to get your first drinks and must remember to bring your glass back to get another drink. They give you your card back when you've finished. Entertainment was a bit hit and miss, but they all tried hard. There are 3 Top H hotels in Calella, one of which you could visit without needing to arrange it the evening before - Olympic, we visited it one day, although my children preferred our hotel. The beach is a 10 minute walk from the hotel and my children absolutely loved it. The beach suddenly dips into the sea, which causes quite large waves on the beach, which they loved playing in. At the beginning of our holiday the waves were very strong and pulled my girls under, giving them a shock but as the week progressed it became much calmer (much to the disappointment of my son!). It's also a really lovely resort to walk around in the evenings. Definitely recommend this hotel.

Very good value for money - can't complain for what we paid. Best things were that it was clean and good standard of food. Many have said not a 4 star but it compares with any other spanish 4 star we've stayed in. Walls were a bit thin like others have said but never kept awake through it - perhaps we had good neighbours! Restaurant also got very busy but we were there at height of season so to be expected. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for good value.

The hotel is clean and food is nice. Staff were mainly friendly. Drinks were watered down, all inclusive didn't include cocktails or the ice creams for the kids unless you wanted to sit in the restaurant to eat one. The main pool didn't get the sun on it until about 2pm. The only place you could guarantee all day sun was the beach or the roof top terrace which was only for adults. We booked to use the Royal Sun in Santa Susanna for a day as you can use any HTop and the Royal Sun is right on the beach. When we got there we were treated like 2nd class citizens and weren't allowed to use the beach bar so had to walk all the way to the main hotel bar for drinks. Bit of a pain. Rooms on calella palace were clean and made up daily but for a family of 2 adults and 2 children we were squashed into 2 double beds side by side. Not really a family room. Entertainment was ok for the kids, mini disco then some show. All in all it was ok for what we paid but deffo not a four star...far from it. I'm not a fussy person (see other reviews) but this was a bit disappointing.

I have recently visited this hotel last month for a family holiday and this hotel was not really up to standard. I found it absolutely ridiculous, we got into the hotel and checked in and at first we had too wait til 12 to get into our room and when we got into our room it was room 406, as you can see on the photos that the room wasn't up to standard, the bath had cracks all down it and what looked like human dirt on the side of the bath. I had my niece which is 3years old and I wasn't putting her into that bath. When we got into the restaurant as well, the curtain we were sitting next to was all dirty and then we went and complained they moved us to room 207 and this room still wasn't the best of rooms as the walls had white splashes on it and the lamps on the room had dust on them. The balcony also had a crack in it, so wasn't safe for my niece to go on into, the snacks were also ridiculous as you only had water to drink and only salad and chips, which I wouldn't expect of a hotel that was a 4star! As also you can see in the photos I have put a photo of the snack on. Also the dinners weren't great, the chicken as you can see on the photos are raw and not cooked properly, as so was most of the food that was provided for dinners, they were mostly all raw foods or undercooked. As I was all inclusive on this holiday and I still had to pay for ice Lolly's as you didn't get them for free, the only things you got for free was ice poles and at that, every time you asked the bar staff for the ice poles we were told they were not frozen and we had to go back in 20mins and then went you went back they were still not frozen. This hotel was just not up to standard and definitely not a 4star hotel👎 I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone!

Just returned home from a week staying here, there was 8 of us, myself, my husband and 2 children who are 13 and a 11 year old, and another family with the same aged children. We paid £1500 for a week in school holidays all inclusive so I was under no illusion what it would be like. If you are looking for 5star treatment this isn't for you! Its clean which is the main thing, the food is ok, we found something to eat everyday which is good, and plenty of it! The staff in that restaurant were spot on, cleaning up, refilling etc. The beach is about a 10 minute walk, but its not a fine sandy beach, but its clean and the sea is clear! Beautiful. Calella isn't a very big resort, some lovely shops and nice bars etc. We had a private taxi from Barcelona airport and it took about 50 minutes ish? Now for some bad things, the walls are really paper thin!! As in, you can hear peoples conversations, and the toilet been flushed at all hours, if you have good neighbours you are ok! The swimming pool is freezing. All of them. The lifts are awful. The bar staff are quite rude. There isn't very much for kids to do, 2 pool tables a couple of machines to play on, a air hockey game. We were all inclusive, there are certain things you cant have and have to paid extra for. They run a card system as in for your glasses, you have to return your glasses to get your card back. Which is a bit of a hassle but you get used to it. Snacks are served in the morning and in the afternoon but in the restaurant, and you aren't allowed out with food, same with ice cream only served in the restaurant and supposed to sit in there with it. I suppose because the bar sells ice cream they want you to buy it. I personally think the hotel needs to make its mind up what its going to be. All inclusive or not? Overall we just had a cheap holiday break in the sun, it isn't the best nor is it the worst we have had.

Ignore all the negative comments there is nothing wrong with this hotel what so ever. We have enjoyed 2 weeks of delicious food, helpful friendly staff & lovely drinks. The hotel is close to the beach and the vast array of shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel pools are kept clean with a life guard on duty all day long. The top floor is very relaxing and peaceful with sun loungers and jacuzzis, there's two main pools and also a smaller pool area with table tennis to the rear. All kept clean and tidy. We've had a few themed evenings for tea which we're lovely. Italian & Spanish so far both really nice, there's shots waiting as u enter the restaurant and even champagne with breakfast. The entertainment is great for the kids, we've had a Disney show, magic show and high school musical so far which the kids have loved. Even the kids club is brilliant during the day. There's a mini disco every night also for the kids. The adult entertainment is ok but nothing amazing. The bar staff are lovely and always have a laugh & joke with the guests. The cleaners are friendly and will happily help you, they come every day and make the beds and change towels. The only thing I would say is the corridors could do with hoovering more and the rooms updating a little but for the amount of time we've spent in the room it's really not a problem. We will definitely be booking to come back next year. Ignore the negative reviews as it really put me off but seeing for myself it's a lovely hotel!

Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, beds were comfortable and dated you had to hire a fridge Aircon only worked one hotel wanted it too , this is not a four-star hotel at best two, The all-inclusive was a joke the drinks are water down and the card system was pathetic, most staff are un friendly, apart from reception and the cleaners, location was okay but the whole area is completely rundown, The htop bar on the beach was okay for a drink but we receive seriously under cooked chicken, and when we complained they asked " you like ur chicken well done" ? No just cooked thanks, all in all I shall never stay with again , and would advise others not to!

Great food - plenty of choice. Cold drinks with reasonable selection for All Inclusive. Good sized rooms - decent beds with good housekeeping service and good aircon. Quiet hotel outside with no noisy pool music. Decent sized pools. Plenty of sunbeds. Reception staff always helpful. Well worth a visit. Stayed 11 days with wife and 2 grown up kids. Nothing at all to moan about (not sure what hotel the complainers were in but they must be looking for faults).

Absolutely awful. Broken air-con - only worked occasionally with cardboard stuck in it, Uncomfortable bed/mattress, thin & cheap pillows, unfriendly staff who at times seemed annoyed and aggressive, No free WIFI, you have to pay extra for Orange juice at breakfast, No free parking, very dated bathroom - dirty tiles with grout missing, the Sink plug didn't really drain, hairdryer was dirty, sticky and had hair stuck to it. On our one & only trip to the hotel bar, the barman said he didn't accept our MasterCard, but then another guest came over and corrected him as she had just been served. All very strange and pushy as he wanted us to pay for a pre-pay drink card which we didn't want. The food at breakfast overall was cheap buffet food with guests pushing each other out the way to get to sugary water-based drinks, coffee which tasted like chemical cleaning fluids. We also paid for breakfast when booking online but the hotel had no record of this and we then had to pay extra €30 for the 4 of us.

I'll start by pointing out we booked a week away flights hotel and all inclusive for 2 adults and our 7yo daughter for 1200 quid in the school holidays so we were under no illusions this was going to be a paradise holiday. We were fed, watered and had a clean room every day for a extremely low price for the time of year so all the things I list are only observations as there's nothing you can moan about when you pay as little as we did. It's not even close to 4*, there's better b&b rooms in the uk. It's clean. It smells of fags in the corridors and this carries into our room. The shower has a lowered part in the ceiling so being of over average height not a giant but still I have to bend my knees to shower. The beds are ok but the mattress is gutless. You can feel every spring. We haven't got a pool view, we have a view of nothing really but as we spend no time in the room save for sleeping and getting showered ect this is not important to us on this holiday. Everything you will read about the rooms being noisy is fact. There's no getting away from it. You can pretty much hold a conversation with the family upstairs the building is that poorly insulated and some people really do shower at some strange times of the night. The aircon is rubbish, I could go as far to say it's non existent. It goes off at certain times obviously an over ride control centrally somewhere in the hotel and when it is blowing it's not cold. The bar and pool areas are well laid out. Plenty of not very plush chairs to sit on and watch the standard for kids shows they put on, our daughter enjoyed the shows. They could do with running a broom over the floor at some point during the day as well as in the night so it stays slightly cleaner but it's not too bad considering the amount of people here. English is not the main language spoken by most of the guests when we were here. I can't say that's the norm but that's how we found it. This was highlighted by the entertainment being in Spanish. My daughter didn't seem to care much and was happy to have her pictures taken with the Disney princesses from the fantasia show. The beer is pretty flat and but it's estrella and you can drink it from 11am to midnight without paying any more so again hard to be too picky. The food is not going to win this place a Michelin star. That is a fact but again as with the title of the review, you get what you pay for. It's there and there's enough to go round. All be it a massive bundle to get to the trays as there's a lot of people and a small area to serve yourself. The restaurant is clean. We found the staff to be pleasant and happy. There's a no reservation rule on sun beds but this seems not to apply first thing in the morning but only when the life guard clears the towels about lunch time. The hotel does not provide towels for the pool and as we had only cabin bags we had no room to bring our own. The hotel will sell you one at €25 a towel if you really want one. We just used the room towels. There are two lifts big enough for six people at a squeeze and eight floors so expect a wait to use them or take the stairs. So in summary. It would be hard to stay at home and eat three large meals, drink as much as you want and go swimming in the sun for as little as we paid but do not arrive hear expecting the ritz as that not what you are paying for.
