Good hotel within 40 minutes from the city of Barcelona. You will need a taxi or public transport (train) to get to it. Beautiful inside and out, great sea view (we were lucky) ) They have a restaurant downstairs with a good selection of food. Great for business meetings etc.
I stayed here on business at a company meeting this week. The rooms are very pleasant. Wifi was a bit shaky. Food was very good and the general ambience was nice. Coffee machines both at breakfast and in the business centre are in short supply - be prepared to queue.
We stayed 2 nights half board, in the new part with views over barcelona as the rooms are more modern The staff were all great and spoke English, breakfast more than you need, dinner food and service very good. It would be great to stay in the summer as garden pool looks really good. Need car or taxi if you want to get to train station in to barcelona city.
We stayed at the Gran Hotel Rey Don Jaime in December 2017 with our 6 year son. We choose this hotel because it was a short distance on the train from Barcelona and because we had stayed there before a few times. We booked 4 nights in a suite (half-board) but for reasons that I shall explain we left after 1 night. When we checked in, the girl on reception told us that she would put us into a better room than we had booked. We were confused as we had booked a suite (not a particular suite). Anyway, she showed us to the room and informed us that the indoor pool was closed for refurbishment (the pool was the main reason we choose this hotel). Our room was in an older part of the hotel, it was traditionally furnished and a reasonable size but more like a junior suite. Also, it only had a sideways sea view and a grubby balcony. Anyway, we were tired from travelling so we settled in. We did ask about other rooms but the girl on reception said a football team had arrived at short notice and (it was implied) had taken all the suitable rooms in the newer part of the hotel. As we were relaxing in our room we got a call from the girl on reception who said that we had only booked for 2 adults and we would have to pay extra for our son's bed. Nearly a year ago when we booked this hotel we booked for 2 adults and a child!!! We were quite livid as it appeared that we were being overcharged. Later when we went back to reception she told us that she had made a mistake and we would not be charged. Well, enough was enough, so we asked to shorten our stay from 4 nights to 1 night. We ate in the restaurant on our 1 and only night and it was very good - excellent food and service. Conclusion: We were disappointed with this hotel and it was all to do with the poor service we got from the receptionist. We would also have liked to have been informed that the indoor pool was closed (they did after all have our email address) - it's a shame as we thought this was a good hotel with traditional values.
Me and my boyfriend stayed in this hotel on September. The hotel itseflt was really good, the staff in Reception was brilliant, they all could comunicate with us in English (as we don’t know Spanish language) But we got really mad with the hotel’s bar. Non of the staff member could talk to us, we had to show every item what do we want to get. When I asked what is in one or in the other pizza, the young staff member just easily showed to me that he doesn’t know, so we had to stay wihout the food. We stayed in the hotel for 5days, only 3 of the days the room was cleaned. We couldn’t understand this as well.. The hotel itself is in the really nice place, nice view, but the staff member need to learn better customer service, as there are always many tourists, who CAN’T speak in Spanish.
We stayed for Three days, All was OK till at checkout the "rude " arrogant - Incompetent reception man charged us twice for our entire stay on our Pre-authorised card. The Hotel Pre-authorised our card at Check-In out but when we went to leave he demanded we settle the entire amount on another card because he was so stupid to realise the funds had already been allocated to the hotel on a Pre-Auth card!!..He would not listen to us and if he would of this would not of happened. He promised that the hotel would not then take the money again after we departed & even put this in writing... A day later we saw that the hotel had deliberately charged us twice!! We then Spent the remaining three days emailing and calling the hotel and Mastercard ( prepaid Euro Card) to try and get a refund - We was left short for the rest of our holiday and had to cancel multiple pre booked day trips that we lost deposits on and we had to call home to borrow money to get back! Multiple emails again to the Hotel once back.. Not even a sorry or willing to discuss some form of compensation for our losses/ they simply are not even willing to accept they did something wrong and in my opinion tried to Chance their arm and see if they could get away with it. Ruined Holiday, Hundreds of pounds in Losses to me, Not even a Sorry or try to put it right! AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
I spent a weekend there with my wife in September, but unfortunately we couldn't enjoy the pool, as we were out most of the days. The hotel is nice, quiet, on top of a hill overlooking the coast south of Barcelona, however you may need to be fit if you're not using a car/taxi to get to the beach or the railway station (which, by the way, is a cheap and fast way to get to the centre of Barcelona). I asked for a room in the old part of the hotel, as I find modern building a bit too cold and less charming. The breakfast was quite good. We were instead unable to try the restaurant, as we only managed to get to the hotel at 10 pm (normal dinner time in Spain, though...). We chose this hotel as we were going to a wedding nearby, and on the whole we had a pleasant stay. However, although cheaper than most Barcelona hotel, it's less convenient if you want to visit town.
The hotel buildings are situated on the summit of a hill: In an otherwise rather busy area of the Spanish coast, this relative isolation was a plus for our two day conference and business meeting. The restaurant offered a great view of the sea and a very friendly and efficient staff. Easy taxi transfer to and from the airport was also an advantage.
spent a day here for a conference, the infrastructure was good, the catering was very good, excellent food (Spanish ham,etc) service flawless. The dinner was also very nice, the hotel itself looks fantastic. Mice view of the sea from the top of the business center
We had to change room twice in 9 days. We had booked a three bed room for 9 nights. When we arrived we were shown to a room with a double bed and we were told that another bed would be added. There was no room for a third bed so we were given another room, which was larger, comfortable and clean. Two days before we were due to leve, we were told to move rooms as there was a leak in the bath that was causing a drip in the floor below. The new room was a bit smaller but we put up with it for two nights. Overall, the hotel is clean, comfortable and a good base to explore, although the walk uphill from the train station is very steep. Keeps you fit!
