Hotel Demeure Les Mouettes

My wife and I have recently returned from a Corsican holiday where, for the last 3 nights we stayed at ‘Les Mouettes’. This hotel has a beautiful position on the coast and is generally well appointed. The building has been a very graceful home. The pool area is delightful although I expect extremely busy at the height of the summer season. We had opted to stay on a B&B basis so were given a room ‘at the rear’ of the hotel. This accommodation was fine and what we had previously been advised, although the bathroom/wc layout was ‘different’. A larger person than either my wife or I would have found it difficult to get in or out of the very small toilet which was separate to the bathroom. It was perhaps ‘someone’s’ idea to have a separate WC but it wasn’t a good one. We did enjoy a most comfortable bed which is of great importance but found the absence of a mirror above what was the dressing table a little odd. Perhaps the TV could have been sited differently. I did ask for help with the air conditioning but that worked well after expert attention, and throughout our stay. In general the staff with whom we came into contact, were very polite, quick to answer requests and helpful. Service levels were most acceptable. We arrived on a Sunday early afternoon and although our room wasn’t ready we thought it would be pleasant to have lunch, which we could see being served to a few tables – perhaps 5 - on the terrace. Our request was received with some consternation and ‘permission’ had to be sought from the Maître d’hôtel. Fortunately this was granted! At the point of check-in we were provided with some information about dining arrangements which, upon further examination, seemed strange to say the least. Breakfast was straightforward being served either in the Dining Room or on the Terrace. Lunch is available every day from 12 noon to 2.30pm. We were advised that, apart from Wednesday and Sunday, Dinner was classified as ‘fine dining’ or ‘Signature high cuisine crafted by our Chef’. Considering the price of each course it would have to be very fine indeed! On the two evenings when this was not available, the luncheon menu, with minimal alterations, was offered for dinner. Not what I would expect from a 4* hotel anywhere in the world. The evening alternative to the ‘fine dining’ experience is to partake of the snack menu which is available up to 10.00pm BUT you are only allowed to eat this on the Terrace up to 7.00pm after which it has to be eaten in the room. Is this because the ‘fine diners’ do not want to look at those partaking of lesser offerings or some other, unexplained reason? A very unusual and possibly unpopular arrangement. Is it not possible to offer both menu options in any of the available eating areas? One thing I did find surprising was that the only wine available in the hotel was Corsican. Whilst I very much enjoyed the products of the local vineyards it would have been very pleasant to have other countries’ wines to compare them with. Les Mouettes has a lot going for it but does need some attention to detail.

Very cosy and charming hotel - fantastic view on the golf of Ajaccio. Nice and warm swimming pool (however with seawater) and jacuzzi. Service was friendly. Rooms were very clean. Lunch/Diner is rather pricy, compensated by wealthy breakfast. TV-selection could have been more international ( mainly French and Italian ) and not always good signal-quality.

My wife and I just spent three nights there and absolutely loved the place. Just far enough out of the city but still an easy walk in for dinner. The pool and outdoor eating area was perfect. The staff are just so helpful you could not ask for more. Off street parking available but tight space. Surrounding area has a lot to offer interns of hikes and sight seeing.

We stayed at this waterside hotel with small private beach for 2 nights in early April. It's located within about a 20 minute walk to the old part of Ajaccio & port area. The hotel wasn't crowded and we found it to be a quiet, elegant refuge. We were continually impressed by the professional, energetic, friendly staff who wanted to make sure we were very pleased with our stay. The hotel was immaculate, including our room, which was very comfortable. Our favorite experience was sitting outside on the gracious terrace, enjoying either an aperitif or a light dinner of Corsican charcuterie and cheese. The view over the Ajaccio Bay from the terrace is gorgeous & peaceful. The hotel also offers a limited but ambitious "gastronomique" dinner menu which we also enjoyed. The dishes offered were creatively presented, delicious, excellent quality ingredients and fairly priced. This hotel also provided free parking. We would love to return again!

We were received like you used to in the good old days, no need to ask for help with the luggage it was taken to our room with a smile. This friendlyness continued all the way through our 2 night stay. We had chosen a room with a view to the rear as we had planned to be away most of the day, but a room with view to the bay of Ajaccio will be an even better choice. Dinning was possible both on the terrasse or in the newly opened Gastronomic restaurant. We tried both. The gastronomic meal we were served actually lived up to the term gastronomic in the best senses of the word. The same could in a way be said about the simple meal of local products we had the next night on the terrasse.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights at the very beginning of September. From the look of it, it used to be someone's private mansion, that was converted into a hotel with that bourgeois belle epoque atmosphere still present. The mansion is in perfect condition. Obviously, it has been recently painstakingly renovated. The reception area is lovely and exceptionally tranquil. Our room #30 was airy, bright, well appointed and had a lovely terrace with a wonderful sea-view. The bathroom was really nice and spacious. The bed was also comfortable and, in general, it was very quiet during the night. However, we had to shut the windows on one occasion, because of the strong gasoline smell. The fact is, there is a gas-station right behind the fence and they pump the gasoline into their storage at night. In general, this hotel is more kind of "city hotels" type, but you definitely need a car to get around. There is a small parking behind the fence, however it is not extremely well-planned and sometimes it is tricky to get in or out. We paid 430 euro per night only for room without even breakfast included. Frankly speaking, I think this is too much. Anyway, I can not comment on the breakfast, but one evening we had dinner at the hotel. I quite agree with the other comments - the menu is far too limited. On that day there was some fish and we decided to take our chances. Well, the fish was tasteless, food presentation was also totally unremarkable. On another day we ordered coffee at the bar (latte macchiatto). For 12 euro we got two cups not even on a tray and without even a small biscuit or a chocolate. The coffee itself was nothing special. You should also bear in mind that there is no elevator in the hotel, so we had to walk two floors up. There is really no porter as such, but we got full assistance with the luggage. However, for elderly and families with small kids the necessity of climbing up the stairs every time you come and go might present an inconvenience. Our biggest disappointment was the beach. Yes, it is true, that there is a small private sandy beach, however, actually swimming in the sea is impossible due to the shallow rocks in the water. The swimming pool is a kind of alternative, but it is fairly small.

Les Mouettes is a lovely, classic hotel at the edge of Ajaccio. The suite we had was huge, with a gigantic covered terrace, complete with a cushioned bed for lounging, and a wonderful view over the pool area and onto the ocean. The restaurant was open and the food was good, although the selection was limited. The hotel has its own little beach, although it was a bit too small and narrow to want to spend much time there (go a bit farther away from Ajaccio and there are many other better possiblities). Breakfast was good, although the space was quite crowded for the number of people dining. Overall, would recommend Les Mouettes if you`re staying in Ajaccio itself.

We spent 5 nights at the hotel "Les Mouettes" and really enjoyed the view from our bedroom (sea view), listening to the sea while dining, the very relaxed atmosphere, the staff's kindness, the pedicure, the heated swimming pool in October...everything really. We'll go back again. Thank you!

A lovely hotel right on the water just outside of downtown Ajaccio. Beautiful terrace for dinner. Not a large menu but delicious. Comfortable rooms and a lovely staff. Can't wait to return again. Warm fireplace, large breakfast selection, heated saltwater pool and a flag on the beach to alert the bar you would like something.

Really stylish and welcoming - we had a great two night stay! Staff are professional and enthusiastic and the the general ambience is laid-back but highly efficient. The short menu dinner menu actual works very well - loved the Chef du Jour options. Thank you.
