We were given a voucher which was sizable as I had been unwell all year. My 2 kids didn't get away so a hotel with a pool was picked. Our children weren't allowed into the pool except for mornings and late evenings. We were not told this until we received the confirmed booking. I had informed the hotel twice of their ages during two calls to book. They are 10 and 12 and we still weren't informed. I spoke to the customer relations person on arrival and found her patronising to say the least. I refused to deal with her following that episode. The foyer felt very crowded and not just with people as the hotel seemed full. There just didn't seem to be too much room unlike other higher class hotels. We had 4 club sandwiches with chips for lunch and tap water. They were delicious but cost 68 euro. That evening we went to the pool during our allowed time. It was so full with all the people who weren't allowed in earlier either that swimming was impossible. Showering and changing facilities were simply inadequate for the numbers attending the pool. My children who are swimmers decided it was a fiasco and refused to return again. The next day we went to Fota park which we loved and returned to our room at 3.30 having left at 10am to find our beds weren't made. Having spoken to reception a girl came up to clean out room but there were 4 of us and we were wet and tired. Cleaning the rooms at that stage with us there was impossible which we had stated on the phone. The girl was overwrought and tired. They appeared to be under resourced and the emptied rooms had taken preference over the still occupied rooms. ? Misprioritization of patrons comfort. Depite this a supervisor who was extremely pleasant arranged to clean our rooms while we were at dinner. They did well looking after us but the hotel did not. Our rooms in general were nice but the shower seemed to have mildew. In summary the staff were pleasant except for the customer service officer. The food was lovely but extraordinarily expensive. Reception staff were pleasant and helpful. I asked to speak to the manager to express my thoughts. While he was ok to speak with he could not see how the policy of children using the pool might adversely affect a family's stay. Eg bringing children to the pool in the morning instead of getting to enjoy leisurely breakfasts as one would hope for in a 5*hotel. Same at evening meals. Not focussing on residents actually in the hotel was something else beyond him. He did not believe it happened from our perspective in his hotel. He explained how owners spent a lot on staffing. I didn't disbelieve him but it isn't working or didn't for us. This is a spa hotel but it emphasises families too. Believe me it's not for families and it's not 5 star. I was sorry to explain to my family who had bought this for me to not use the hotel again. They can get "better bang for their buck" elsewhere. I am sorry to have written this. I really looked forward to this and it really disappointed me. The 3 stars were given for the extremely pleasant staff.

Having stayed here a number of times and I must say standards have dropped in the last few years!! We arrived on Saturday to be greeted by the very friendly receptionist!!unfortunately this is where it ended Arrived to our room(suite) that was not up to standard for a 5 star hotel it was grubby ripped curtains, dirty carpets, dusty, dirty bathroom that I had to clean myself before we used it! We decided we would go to the pool for a swim arrived to the spa area signed in and headed for the pool which was freezing (most people in the pool said the same thing) hydrotherapy pool was grubby tiles missing etc not a 5 star standard. Changing rooms were also freezing! Dinner was included in our package food was cold and flavorless my husbands duck was tough as a result he didn’t eat it! Dessert was ok nothing amazing. We ordered room service breakfast this was a complete disaster pancakes were like they were 2 days old tea cups dirty, no sugar that was just a tip of the ice burg I could keep going! Such a pity it was a beautiful resort one of our favorite hotels but after this stay we definitely will not be back! 5 star prices without the 5 star standard!

We are just back from a 2 night stay at Fota Island Resort and I can't fault a thing. Check in was smooth and quick. We had requested a cot for our 18 month old son and this arrived at our room very quickly. They also brought a teddy for our son to bring home with him - nice touch. The room was a nice size with comfy beds and the bathroom was large with a rainfall shower and separate bath. We ate in the hotel both nights and the food was delicious. I enjoyed 3 hours in the spa on the day of my departure, I had the Calm Minds treatment and it was lovely. Felt very relaxed leaving after a great couple of days. I would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Really enjoyed my stay at this lovely hotel. Arrived early, and to our surprise our rooms were ready. Lovely clean comfortable bedrooms. Coffee, Tea and cookies in rooms, also a mini fridge which was welcome for my friend to keep her medication cool. Had fun in the pool and hydro pool. Felt it could have been warmer in this area. Four of us dined in the evening, and we all agreed the food was delicious. The staff here are extremely friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was great, lots of choice available. Fresh omelettes, pancakes and waffles at one station. Ordered poached eggs, which arrived promptly. The manager called Raouf was especially attentive and helpful . We are planning our next visit, would recommend a stay here.

We stayed here just after Christmas for 2 nights. Had bar food on the evening of arrival. The food was good, the service both friendly and efficient.Bar staff were equally friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious and well appointed. On day 2 we were attending a function and the food was excellent and again the service jolly and efficient. Reception both on arrival and at checkout was fast, friendly and efficient. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

When we arrived there was a number of cleanliness issues with our room which you would not expect to find in a five star hotel. Once reported to staff these issues were resolved within 30 minutes. Overall the hotel is very nice however some attention is needed to update some of the fixtures and fittings in bedrooms where there’s a lot of black damp staining between the tiles in the bathroom, a lot of limescale surrounding bathroom drains and the furniture in places has faded. These are minor things but ones that you wouldn’t expect in a five star hotel especially with the room rates set as they are. On the positive the area is within easy access to Cork city, Cobh and many other places where theres a lot of activities for tourists. Bed was extremely comfortable and the hotel in general nice. Breakfast was nice with a good choice of food.

What an amazing fabulous 5 star hotel. Kelly at hotel reception is outstanding, so welcoming to myself and my husband. Our room was 5 star, clean warm with refreshments, tea and coffee awaiting us. We eat in the bar,had a beautiful fillet steak. Presentation was excellent, complements to the chiefs. What a night sleep. Staff in hotel so helpful and full of smiles. Breakfast, the choices. Fota I’ll definitely be back. Thank you team Fota

Stayed for 4 nights over the new year in a classic room. Unfortunately we did not partake of the spa facilities as we were visiting family so spent most of the day out of the hotel. Ate in the bar on our first night which was excellent, the pear dessert was one of the best puds I have eaten, breakfast was excellent every morning with plenty of choice. We will certainly return in the spring/summer to fully appreciate the lovely grounds

Caught up with friends and really enjoyed our visit. Food was excellent and the ambience was only marred by a ferocious number of wailing babies and badly behaved children. Decor is excellent, staff are friendly and efficient.

We stayed in fota island for 2 nights. We were looking forward to a luxurious 5 star break. Unfortunately, we left very disappointed as there were numerous problems. Firstly, check in was at 4pm and we arrived at around 6pm, and we were told our room was still not ready. The lady was pleasant and offered us a free drink for this. We then went for dinner in the Amber lounge. Now this was appalling. Our starter took at least 45 minutes to come out and we ordered the duck, which were tree absolutely tiny, flavourless dumplings for 15 euro. Furthermore, our main course did not come out for another 25 minutes. Three couples came and sat down well after us, ordered, had eaten and left by the time we got our main course. Our main courses were short of a 1 star experience. My pizza did not have half of the toppings it was meant to, the peppers were raw, it was worse than a frozen pizza. I only ate half of it's because I was starving. My boyfriends steak sambo was dry, ciabatta undercooked, lack of fillings and a very unsatisfactory side salad. On top of all this, it was totally overpriced. The waiters just didn't have a clue what they were doing. Also, the two tables beside us both were complaining about numerous things as well. It really ruined our evening and put a damper on our first night there. The breakfast was also of very poor quality, definitely not 5 star. Once again it was hard to get any waiters attention. We stayed in a deluxe double room, however the bed was two twin beds pushed together!! Absolutely crazy. On the second night we ordered a taxi through reception where they told us they would call us in 20 mins when he arrived. 35 minutes later we rang reception who forgot to call us to tell us he was downstairs. This morning we ordered room service for breakfast which took 40 mins to arrive, and when it did, it was not at all what we ordered. I ordered poached eggs and sausages and they gave us 2 full Irish's with no sausages at all, when we rang reception about this they informed us that they had ran out of sausages! (5 star hotel??) Overall it was a very disappointing stay, yes the staff were friendly and the hotel is located in a beautiful place, but it was very poor. Would I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice break? Unfortunately, no we would not.
