Room nice , newly refurbished, however the corridor outside had poor carpet , There was a sign explaining that work is in progress. however Id expect better based on the price of the room . The bar food was poor, The vegetables which were extra seemed not be be fresh but frozen, The chicken curry was ok but had a lot of bones. I said it to a waitress but she didnt follow up on my complaint Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent. It was difficult to get anyone to answer the phone from the room when I called 0.
My wife and I had a very pleasant two night stay in this hotel on 21 and 22 April. We were in the Cherry Suite and it surpassed our expectations. The room was spacious and meticulously furnished as was the whole hotel. Service was excellent. We enjoyed an evening meal in the hotel on both evenings, one in the restaurant and one in the bar area. Both meals were excellent with a good choice on the menus. The buffet breakfast was among the best I've had with a great choice of hot and cold food. Finally, the hotel is well situated for touring around the Cork/Kerry area.
Check-in was by far the nicest, friendliest and most efficient we have ever experienced. Being upgraded to the Magnolia Suite on arrival was also a top way to set us off to enjoying our stay at this top-class hotel. Although beginning to date, the Magnolia Suite is absolutely gorgeous. So spacious. Separate bedroom and large living area with a TV in each, two bathrooms and a balcony the size of the living area with two decking tables and chairs to sit out on and enjoy the woodland views. The mattress is top quality - made for an excellent night's sleep. Extremely comfort. Just what you want when you go away for a night! The breakfast the next morning is unfortunately where we had to drop marks for this hotel. There's certainly plenty on offer so there will be something to accommodate all tastes but unfortunately, the quality wasn't as good as expected. We both ordered Eggs Benedict from the menu and it came with overcooked eggs and a tasteless sauce that just made the bread very soggy and inedible. We both had to leave it and go to the buffet instead. Unfortunate because we were really looking forward to it. It's a lovely breakfast dish when done well. The buffet quality wasn't great either so all in all the breakfast experience for us was quite poor. However, this would not put us off recommending this hotel. The stay is top quality - I cannot comment on standard rooms but the Suite we had couldn't be faulted. Just an awful pity the breakfast was so poor. Perhaps they will improve.
i had the pleasure to attend a friends wedding in the hotel last week ,the experience was fantastic, the room was spot on ,i had requested a particular room ,for convenience, when i booked and it was ready . the staff were friendly and chatty, and the wedding was brilliant ,,the meal was of 5* standard ,well done to all
We were visiting friends in the area and stayed in one of the homes on the resort for 4 nights. They never offered fresh towels- and it took us 3 phone calls to finally get some extras as we had 5 people and only 4 towels. No hair dryer- --that took 4 phone calls. The beds are old and not comfortable. We ate at the restaurant in the hotel which had poor service and so-so food. The location was excellent and the grounds are beautiful. Next time I would stay in the hotel and hope for a better experience.
Loved the location and the hotel was stunning!! Stayed for one night, room was lovely but i was disappointed in the join in the double bed (Two beds joined together, which was a little uncomfortable) The hydrotherapy area was gorgeous and has to be the most relaxing I have ever been to... The food was really good too.
Waited 10 mins at a basically empty bar to be served. Ordered a dingle gin and tonic. Came to €11.40 for a gin a slice of lemon and cheap tonic. Genuinely thought they made a mistake and asked how much the Dingle gin was. To be told he didn't know and to ask his colleague €9.20. Dingle gin wouldn't cost close to that even in Dingle. I was told they treat it as a premium gin, they could have at least given me what it's supposed to be served with. Juniper berries and grapefruit. Staff in the spa and restaurant are lovely.
I visited with my daughter on Apr 17th to Apr 20th 2017. The grounds are very nice indeed & certainly give a great impression when you arrive! Our room was not ready (this was at 2.00pm so we had something to eat in the Amber Restaurant while we waited. Food was good (a tad pricey) - I asked for a latte after the meal but they forgot about me so I had to ask for it again The room was a great disappointment sadly....I've stayed in several 5 * hotels & they far & above exceed the standard in Fota (for a standard room). The rooms in Castlemartyr Resort in Cork for example, are far superior...... The decor was exactly like any other non 5 * hotel I've ever stayed in.....no luxurious soft furnishings, no extra seating (apart from two chairs), no extra desk to place your laptop etc I stayed in room 114, one of the bedside lamps wasn't sitting right & needed fixing The coffee making facilities are very basic & I did laugh at the ONE set of biscuits offered!! Other hotels have Espresso machines & several packets of biscuits! At one stage my daughter broke a glass in the bathroom & it was never replaced The complimentary robes are a size 12 at best so they barely fit! (surely all robes should be large to make you feel very covered up!) & not mortified that it barely tied! Any other hotel that offers them, seem to have lovely, large robes! My TV menu options were not centered correctly on the actual TV so you could not see the channels properly, when I asked two different members of staff about it, they said they did not know anything about the TV, which was fair enough, but they never escalated it for me either! I asked for room service a couple of times & had asked for a wine glass on one occasion which they forgot. The staff are very friendly & were lovely to my daughter at all times. Special mention to the staff at breakfast who go out of their way to accommodate all requests The pool was fine, the lifeguard looked so bored though!!! Maybe he perked up once the children left! I know the above may seem like small things but really in a five * hotel, they should not have been an issue so I was disappointed I'm afraid The lodges off-site looked very nice indeed & were very close to a lovely playground/tennis courts so I would consider staying there for any future visits but I would not rush back to stay in the standard rooms - perhaps the suites etc are of a suitable 5* standard
Stayed here 4 2 night's beautiful hotel all staff lovely hotel nice and clean and very family friendly hotel. Kids cud go in to swimming pool from 9 to 11 and 4 to 6. Had food in the bar chowder was lovely but steak sandwich was horrible on 2nd night went to Middleton 4 our dinner as we were not impressed with the dinner in the hotel at those price. But definitely stay here again
I won a 2 night break away with Fota. I was really looking forward to it. My initial reaction to seeing the hotel and grounds was awe. We were both really impressed with the hotel itself. Unfortunately that impression did not last long. Our room wasn't ready even though it was after 3 pm, no explanation was given. We were told to wait in the bar and that when it was ready they'd come and get us. We were told it would be about 30 mins. 45 mins later no one arrived. I had to go back out to reception to get our room key, again no explanation. The bar service was also very slow and the atmosphere in the bar for dinner that night was also a let down. No smart casual dress code and a lot of tracksuits and runners. Definitely not what I expected from a 5 star resort. The only saving grace was the spa. The ladies were so nice and after I informed them that i had just got engaged (the second day of our stay) we had chocolates and sparkling wine handed to us after our excellent treatments. Disappointingly the hotel restaurant staff did not recognise my exciting news (even though they knew about it) and this did take away from my night. A simple glass of sparkling wine would of showed some level of professionalism and care for customers especially since we were dining in the restaurant and not the bar. Unfortunately I will not be recommending this hotel to any of my friends, family or colleagues.
