We Loved our stay!!! On arrival to the hotel we were very pleasantly surprised by the grounds and the overall appearance of the hotel. We knew we were too early to check in so went straight to the bar for some food, most of which was beautiful. However my steak sandwich was inedible as extremely tough, no problem to return and exchange for something else, staff very attentive and efficient. So we got checked in to our room afterwards. Having booked this weeks in advance and advising reservations that I was travelling with my daughter and her two young children, one needing a bed and one needing a cot, we were very disappointed to be given a twin room, with simply 2 single beds pushed together. I went to reception to explain the problem and the receptionist was extremely helpful & arranged for us to be moved to another room which had a king sized bed, a single bed & a cot. Absolutely perfect....however this whole process used up a full 2 hours of our day and was stressful trying to entertain two small kids who wanted their beds. Missed out on the swimming time on that evening unfortunately, due to the mix up too. We dined in the bar that night, food was absolutely excellent & staff were really fantastic. We treated ourselves to the Restaurant the following night and what a pleasant surprise it was. Menu, food presentation, staff, service....all fantastic. We had a very understanding waitress who was very professional. The managers and all staff during all our dining experiences in the hotel could not have been better, so attentive, efficient - yet relaxed, friendly and courteous at all times. We had some room service also - Fantastic & so well presented! We will be back in December & cannot wait for our stay again, We enjoyed it all so so much and will definitely be recommending to anyone that wants a lovely relaxing escape, with gorgeous food, wonderful staff, immaculate grounds, great pool, well equipped play room & just overall family friendly 5star resort. Thank you - We loved it and can't wait to return.
Enjoyed a very enjoyable stay with my family recently in Fota Island. Brendan Comerford and his team must be commended on the excellent service in the hotel. Food in the bar/restaurant was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely with a great choice on offer. The room was very comfortable. We were just sorry that we couldn't stay on for a night or 2 longer! We will be returning to Fota Island again!.
We spent an overnight in the hotel following a wedding. Its in a unique location - 100s of acres on a private island near Cork. Linked to the mainland by bridge. As well as the hotel there is also a wonderful wildlife park and a major golf course with a very interesting clubhouse. Beyond the imposing stone entrance there is a long paved entrance road lined with an immaculately kept beech hedge.(All the grounds seem to be extremely well kept). The hotel building itself does not appeal to me, and does nothing for the glorious site. Inside there is a large reception area with individual reception desks; the whole ground floor area is very impressive; beautifully furnished/decorated - the bar included. All the staff we came across (it was not understaffed) were friendly, pleasant and helpful. The wedding function area was very attractive; the food and service were excellent; the function was very capably and professionally handled. The bedroom area upstairs had the usual long uninspiring corridors. The room was fine, spacious and well equipped. There was an elaborately tiled bathroom, which was handicapped equipped. Unfortunately the wet room/shower spilled over on to the floor; The bottom of the door frame was rotting, and the bottom of the door was becoming discoloured. Very high-tech taps which were operated by waving your hand. All in all a very nice hotel with just the one blemish.
Lovely hotel with beautiful grounds. Had Sunday lunch with my husband. Not a very extensive menu. Found portions quite small and very limited selection of vegetables with the main course. Dessert was nice but very small given the price tag. Very attentive staff.
We stayed here on the 11th Feb. I was so looking forward to our night away, doesn't happen often with two children but It was so disappointing, we booked it for quiet relaxing night and it was FREEZING, lobby, the bar and the restaurant. Seat hopping to try find a spot away from the cold. The only comfort we had was in our room, we could have stayed at home for that.. customer service was poor. Food was lovely.
This hotel is not what I expected to find in Cork. It was a great hotel with very nice rooms for a very low price. Some of the rooms are going through a renovation, so you had to use the lift from the spa - minor inconvenience. The restaurant at the hotel is nice as well. The price is what got me - a very good value!
Beautiful hotel excellent facilities. Great bar menu no need to go to restaurant. Lots of locals eating there in a Friday evening . Really professional staff. Spa is really good had a lovely hot stone massage . Would highly recommend to couples , families . Will definitely return .
We stayed at Fota previously and had such a fantastic time we always said we had to come back! Well what a disappointment our second stay was! The hotel has gone downhill majorly! Firstly the staff were certainly not as welcoming or friendly - they made very little effort. Secondly in the spa we both felt extremely uncomfortable as two girls were constantly taking photos in there - highly inappropriate! Thirdly the food was not as nice or as well presented. We were especially disappointed with the breakfast assortment. Additionally the hotel lacked atmosphere - there was no buzz around or any entertainment provided. Last time there had been music in the bar. Instead it was just over run with children. Will not be returning or recommending in future.
Having recently hosted a family occasion at Fota in the Amber Lounge, I cannot praise the superb staff and hospitality enough. Rachid Zaouia take a bow. Your creations are truly magnificent ! We will return !
Lovely large room, however no real view. Huge bathroom with fab shower and bath. Big comfy bed. Great breakfast. Very noisy at night due to a wedding reception in the main hotel, music kept us awake very late. Air con in room didn't work. Attended a wedding at the clubhouse - food wasn't good, service was slow, severely overcooked beef with the addition of an ant on the plate, dessert however was fab. Spa is good, not amazing, don't waste your money & pay €25 to use the hydro as people just walk in anyway! Hotel has the potential to be amazing just needs to brush up on the 5* service as currently isn't worth the price
