Novum Hotel Leonet Köln Altstadt3.0 out of 5.0

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid December. Personally we found the hotel ideal for a short break. We were in Cologne visiting friends and also visiting the many Christmas Markets Cologne has to offer. The hotel itself is a budget hotel but we found the staff friendly and helpful. The room consisted of 2 single beds and bathroom containing shower, toilet and basin. Neither room was 'big' but we found the beds comfy and enough wardrobe space for our short stay. Situated on the first floor no problems with noise. We didn't opt for the breakfast which was around 10 Euros per person. A 5 minute walk there is a McDonald's where you can grab a Sausage & Egg McMuffin plus coffee for around 3 euros each. Again we found the hotel nicely situated to explore the city. The cathedral was about a 15 minute walk away and with google map on your smart phone its easy to get guided back to the hotel. Again to sum up, we had no issues, ideally situated and would stay there again for a short break.
I say it's worth the money. When I booked this hotel my husband was very sceptical about it and he wasn't excited at all and even suggested getting a different hotel after reading reviews online. But once wee reached the hotel he was pretty surprised and pleased too😀😀. We reached the hotel around midnight and the reception was still open (thank god). Hotel room is pretty decent. They offer breakfast for 9.90 euros/pp it's a standard breakfast so if you don't want to spend that much you can eat outside there are few cafes within walking distance. From hotel to airport if you are taking a cab it will cost you around 34euros but if you take a train it'll just be around 5euros per pax. The hotel is within walking distance to the city Center so walk it out and save money on tram😀. Also since it was weekend there street close by the hotel is pretty lively, you'll see lots and lots of party crowd. Cheers and enjoy your stay at the hotel Feedback for hotel Improve the wifi Put a kettle in every room( it ain't that expensive)
I really cannot recommend this hotel at all. I very rarely give anywhere a bad review but I feel I should warn others before booking this place. The room was relatively clean and the hotel was in a good location....thats where the good points sadly end. Check in: the girl at the desk was surprised we wanted to check in and said she didn't know how, so had to fetch the one man who did. Why put a someone on the front desk who can't check people in? The room itself is relatively small with very dated furniture. Not what is expected from a 3 star hotel. However the cleaners left the room across the hall open one day and although it was the same size, had much nicer furniture so I guess it's pot luck if you get a bad room. It was my first 3 star hotel i have ever stayed in where there was no kettle in the room for tea and coffee making. We though this was a mistake so asked at reception. The guy on reception spoke very poor English and just said it's not provided so that's that. The walls on the rooms are extremely thin so expect to hear EVERYTHING. It's Germany, it's Cologne so we expected to hear some late night noise. However we did expect to get some sleep. What made matters even worse was there was a group of young girls staying in room next to us who were constantly screaming and singing. We understand everyone is on holiday so don't mind noise but when it's still going at 3 4 5 and 6 am in the morning in a hotel is when it goes too far and hotel staff should act. On our last night we had to get up at 4am to check out and catch and early morning flight. We got absolutely no sleep despite going to bed early as we could hear the girls partying throughout the hotel. We went to their door to politely ask them to keep it down but when that didn't work we went to reception who spoke to them once but did nothing when they continued to make horrendous noise at 3am and we continually complained. When we checked out the guy on reception merely laughed at us having no sleep and said it was a group of Greek children. So i guess that makes it alright if it's Greek children? Staff completely unhelpful, dated rooms, thin walls, no sleep, no tea/coffee making facilities. Cannot recommend this hotel at all.
Our hotel room was average at best. Decor is dated, room was dull and cramped, bathroom needs an update and it was noisy inside the hotel with other guests at night. On the plus side the hotel is in a very good location and staff were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately we won’t be back as it’s just not what we look for in a hotel.
- Very good location - The room was too small for four people. It was the perfect size for a couple, but they put a sofa-bed and everything was really small. - The curtains on the bathroom were disgusting. They were dry, wet and mould. Terrible. - The price was really expensive for the size of the room.
This was booked through Expedia at 399 euros per night for 3 nights.-hot deal so calld. When I got there the room rate appeared to be about 80 euros/night. When I left they charged me another 83 euros for varous taxes. Bathroom was terrible cramped and dirty. Asked Front desk for a taxi, they said it would be impossible to get one at rush hour. I walked. On second day same thing so I looked on the web and got a taxi at normal rates in 5 minutes. When I challenged the front desk they said the taxi company they use was always busy. But never offered an alternative. Very unhelpful. Wont return.
Rooms are average, old fashioned and dull with horrible bathrooms. My room was clean but my mum had to move her room as the bathroom was dirty. There is no aircon so the rooms and hallways were warm and stuffy in October with very little ventilation. Although being told the hotel had 'quiet rooms' we were woken up several times by noisy pipes and other guests during the night. We didn't bother going for the breakfast as 12.90 euros we felt was a bit much for what we would eat. The only benefit of the hotel was the location as it is on a back street about 10 mins walk from the central shopping area and tourist sight. We wouldn't stay here again.
Don’t ever stay with Novum hotel. My 600 euro were stolen by them from the room locker.. Hotel cheated me by sharing master key of digital locker with their staff. No CCTV to track incidence.Zero support or sympathy by hotel. I had a stay of 25 days and it was worst hotel as they even refused to return my money. Cheat and fraud hotel.
Well, DONT OPT FOR THIS EVEN IF YOU DONT HAVE ANY OTHER CHOICE IN THE CITY. The room was tiny, there was hardly any space to walk or even stand in the room. Ventilation was bad. Bathroom was tiny (but clean). The staff is very unfriendly. I reserved the room directly from their website, still they charged my card more than that. When I asked for a reason, the guy at the reception was not in the mood to give me any reason. They don't give a damn after getting their money. He was continuously shouting. He was not able to communicate well either in German or in English but was very energetic while shouting. I don't know why the hotel manager recruit such persons who don't know ABCD of the hospitality or behave.
Stayed at the Novum in December 2016 as we were visiting the Cologne German Markets and needed a fairly cheap hotel to rest our heads at the end of the night. We checked in and when entering the room there was a strong smell of cigarette smoke and the walls were a yellow colour. When opening the window we noticed there was a smokers area underneath us. I immediately went and asked Reception if we could change rooms as the strong was too much for us, especially being non-smokers. We were moved to a different room which thankfully did not smell of cigarette smoke. The room itself was basic, two single beds pushed together and the bathroom was tiny! It was very difficult to shower as the water would get everywhere but it did the job. As we were on the main road it was noisy, especially when the binmen were working and it didn't help when we were hungover from all the Mulled Wine. All in all, good location, friendly staff and clean room. Extremely basic but for a budget hotel to rest your head for the night I don't think we did too bad.
