Stayed in The Conti Hotel for 5 nights and loved it. Staff at reception booked my twin brother Stephen and I in straight away,we were in room 202 on second floor, room was spotlessly clean and cleaned daily. Wi Fi was quick and flat screen tv in room. Shower was superb and the beds extremely comfortable. Location could not be better with lots of bars, pubs and restaurants, great transport links to all parts of the city . This is a hotel I am going to book for my next holiday in Cologne next year. Well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to this gorgous city.
To start with the positive: the location of the hotel is really nice with close proximity to lots of good bars and restaurants. The less positive: The rooms are extremely small. Room decor is old and 80's - but clean. The elevators only stops on 'half' floors, so you will need to carry up suitcases to your room. The breakfast is very basic. Negative: The Wifi was not working the first 24 hours we stayed at the hotel. The staff - which is not super friendly - claimed it was because our phones and computers could not work with German network(?!). Very Negative: Due to suddenly(?) overbooking, the hotel had to move half of our group to another hotel, 20 min away, owned by the same hotel chain.
I arrived on Sept 4th 2017 and they claimed that they didn't have my reservation, that there were no available rooms for that day or the following days. They could offer a room at Ayun Centro which is very far away from down town but they would pay the taxi for me. While i was waiting there, trying to contact my travel agency, they did the same to the next four clients! I stayed one night at Ayun which location is really bad because there is nothing nearby (shops, restaraunts etc) and the train station is 15min walk away (even though the hotel is next to train rails). My travel agency made a big deal of it and the next day i was relocated to Conti. If you need a down town hotel be sure that your reservation is affirmed!
The positives are that the hotel is in a good location with lots of nice bars and is a short walk from the U-Bahn and Trams, the staff are very courteous, friendly and helpful, the rooms are nice and clean. The less positive stuff is that the beds were tiny in our twin rooms (that's all they had left due to the trade show causing hotel rooms to sell out in Cologne and also causing an insane price surge), The shower in my room only had cold water (I did report this to the night manager) and it was a constant mission getting into the hotel room with the very quirky and odd key system (I have literally never experienced this in any other hotel anywhere in the world) which neither me or my colleague got the hang of and took a lot of effort so each time we had to ask the staff member at the desk to help. I'm not sure I would call this a business hotel, it feels more like student/backpacker accommodation.
The hotel is located slightly away from the city centre in an area with many, many fantastic restaurants. The summer street culture is fantastic. My room was tiny and the lift painfully slow. Otherwise it was very clean and efficiently run. Very limited public area to speak of.
This is a small hotel run by a family. They are very friendly and cooperative. They have allotted the room to us earlier then there check in time. Rooms are quite small. Bathroom is also small. There are 2 to 3 Indian restaurant at walking distance from hotel, so good for Indian traveler looking for Indian food. Tram station is near to hotel. All places of interest is near central station so one have to take tram for sight seeing. Hotel is in by lane from main street so not much heavy traffic. Not much noise also. Breakfast is average. For vegetarian you have bread, cheese, corn flakes, tea coffee and fruits as choice. Staff is good and ready to help. Here they understand English. Overall hotel is average.
Room - average. clean. No tea or coffee making facilities and the vending machine was out of order. One very flat pillow each. We were at the front and the street below was very noisy, but we were in the City. The location was in walking distance of all the markets and the Cathedral. Or you can catch the underground and a tram i you don't want to walk. Plenty of shops nearby. The staff were very nice and helpful. The oriental lady in the kitchen at breakfast was a little sour looking and didn't speak though. Breakfast buffet had lots to choose from and you never felt rushed. They use local, organic produce and the coffee was lovely.
Never ever had such a small bathroom in a Hotel. Siiting on the loo, my knees hit the opposite wall and for towelling I had to go into the room because there was no space in the bath. The lift is stopping between the floors so you either have to carry your luggage up or down some 8 steps. No coffee selection for breakfast, even if you offer to pay for it. Only Location is great
One of the main things, for me, when staying in a hotel, is how welcoming and friendly the staff are. The man on reception during the day was so helpful, friendly and chatty, it really made our stay that much better. We loved how close the hotel was to the Christmas markets and took us 15 minutes to walk to the cathedral. The room was clean, had everything we needed, comfy beds, great house keeping and spacious. Highlight has to definitely be the reception staff though. It really makes your holiday to be surrounded by such lovely staff. The only downfall was the pillows in the room, they weren't great, but may be to others liking! I also found it really noisy within the hotel, with other guests, however that is no fault of the hotel, just inconsiderate neighbours. Overall great and would definitely recommend. Thank you!
I stayed in Conti Hotel only for one night while in Koln for a trade fair. The hotel is well located since there are different shops and restaurants around, as well as the tram line going to the city centre and the Fair, respectedly 3 and 5 stops away. The staff at the reception was welcoming and nice, and they also gave me some info on Koln as well as the city map. I had a room on the 1st floor, which was big enough for me: king size bed and a spacious bathroom. The room was facing the internal "courtyard" so was very silent though non a beautiful view (just a floor/ceiling). I did not like the breakfast, which was included in the room price: I tried to eat a fruit salad with seeds but the fruit was frozen.
