Parador de Almagro4.0 out of 5.0

The Parador de Almagro is well worth a visit. The rooms are a good size and the beds comfortable. The staff are friendly and helpful. There is a private car park and some covered parking but it is not completely secure. They have a reasonable restaurant.
This Parador is located close (4min walk) to old town square and is easily accessible with car. City itself is few kilometres from highway. The Parador is a former monastery, from 16th century, with several inner yards. Rooms are former monk chambers , with own bathrooms, big upgrade from 16th century. As we arrived, staff welcomed us warmly and instructed us into our room, unfortunately their English skills were not very good nor our Spanish, so we had to return to reception for re-guidance. After that we found our room, which was very nice. Room was simple and bed firm. Bathroom had a bathtub and offered amenities like shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion. Main problem with a room was number power sockets, as you try to charge phones, tablets etc. I didn't test the TV, as in Spain all are dubbed. WiFi worked well, requires password. Breakfast offered juices and normal ham/cheese selection. Also fruits were available. Nothing hot food was available and was not actively offered. I guess there should be eggs available without extra charge, but I think it was language barrier again. 5th star for maintaining old piece of history and offering it to the people.
We are very satisfied with the parador. It was our 5th Parador in this week. We like that the center of almagro is only 500 m distance. Very bad is, that all the places of interest like churches etc are during the day closed.
This hotel is based round a series of internal courtyards which formed part of a convent. Most of the rooms are off these courtyards. Each room catches the flavour of the old cells and incorporates details which reflect the green balconies of the main square (a few blocks away) and include some historic tiles or azulejos. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed, have excellent beds, good wi-fi, a spacious bathroom with all the amenities you could require, wi-fi, TV etc. You will find a number of quality books on various Spanish themes/by Spanish authors in your room. The parador has a range of sitting rooms and rest areas many of them very tastefully decorated (not always the case with the room numbers!) and with many items of historic importance. The restaurant is very good and quite unique. There are about three courtyards you can visit and sit out in. The swimming pool is I think closed during winter. There is ample parking. Those on Reception are kind, friendly and attentive. This is a parador to spend some time exploring.
The Parador building is a Franciscan convent dating from the 16th century. It was a wonderfully appointed, adapted and maintained building with antique furniture and other decorative items throughout its rabbit warren rooms. It was very comfortable and peaceful, with a swimming pool, interior courtyards, bright galleries and beautiful woodwork. Our room looked out onto a little garden courtyard in the middle of the building. The Parador was just five minutes from the scenic and historic Plaza Mayor. We had an excellent dinner at the hotel (I had the chorizo and scrambled egg). The bar service was fine as was reception who assisted us politely with simple queries. Cannot think of any criticism of this place (not usual for me).
This Parador is centrally located in the centre of Almagro. It is an old convent so is very tranquil and just oozes history. There are a number of central courtyards around which the rooms are grouped. Rooms are large and simply furnished, some of the original tiling left in the rooms are lovely. Service is well up to usual Parador standards. A beautiful hotel.
Amazing historical building in the center of this beautiful city, history everywhere.Quiet rooms, very good breakfast and a dinner menu full of surprises. I recommend for families and for couples willing to take a break from the city. Yo can do the Windmills tour and at night go to the theatre in one of the oldest one in Spain. Hotel staff always happy and willing to help.
Paradors are always excellent, both in terms of quality, comfort, staffing, and food, with a consistent standard, which we have enjoyed for nearly 30 years. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
It was our first night in Spain but a wonderful experience. We had a junior suite that was more than comfortable with great linens. Although there were very few guests that night, we had dinner there. The waiter made the evening very special for us. Traveling off season has advantages and disadvantages. Rooms are nicer and less expensive but occasionally you will find restaurants with only a few people. We don't mind as it is easy to get in and get reservations.
The hotel was more affordable than a roadside motel in the US and it was an unforgettable experience. Within 5 minutes from the Plaza Mayor, this is the place if you want to visit Almagro or the surrounding areas including some of the famous windmills of Don Quixote de la Mancha and the now famous Osborne Bull advertisements. The restaurant with its tiles and textiles is out of this world and everything is well preserved like in a time capsule but with wifi :) The people were generous and cordial, I would definitely come again. This is a solid 5
