In my experience, you can't go wrong staying at a Shangri-La and their Chiang Mai hotel was no exception. The service was impeccable from arrival - if you weren't aware Thailand is the land of smiles, you would be by the time you checked out! I was actually dropped at the wrong level and upon entering was greeted by a passing staff member, escorted to an elevator and shown to reception on the upper floor. Reception was friendly and chatty, enquiring about my trip to Thailand and offering assistance as required and explaining hotel services. Upon approaching my room (evening) a housekeeper in the corridor offered the turn down service. Sitting by the pool, pool staff were quick to approach with a cool towel, iced water, a menu and a smile. Staff were very willing to assist with altered checkout arrangements. I can not commend the staff highly enough. The room (5th floor) was immaculately clean, well maintained and tastefully appointed. Bed soft by Thai standards, probably medium by western standards. A bowl of fresh fruit was a nice addition. Very effective air conditioning. Bathrobes and slippers. Shampoo, condition, soap, shower gel, lotion, cotton buds, shower cap, toothpaste, toothbrush all provided. Hotel wi fi speeds were excellent. Security appeared to be quite good - metal detectors and x-ray machines for bags on the front entrances. Access to guest floors required the key card. While perhaps not as convenient as staying in the old city itself, it is a short 5 min drive to any old city attraction, and taxis and rickshaws were often lined up out the front.
As expected Shangri La, Chiang Mai is great in every respect. The food is fabulous, the spa is gorgeous and the breakfasts are a treat in a vast range of delicious coices. The bedrooms are comfortable and the king size beds are covered in the best quality bedding. The hotel is simply magnificent and hard to leave to explore the enticing surrounding, Laundry and room service is expensive but efficient. A toasted sandwich will set you back about R 95. Club level gives you access to sun downers at no charge with some amazing snacks.
The property is very good staff is very good we were in the lounge where the attending staff treated us like Royale and every time provided very good veg options. House keeping was also good all day dining restourent needs to be calibrated for service
This is a stunning hotel in a great location. We booked a Horizon Club Room which was perfect overlooking the Pool. All the staff are super friendly, attentive and show a genuine interest in your day and plans. Two problems I encountered with the room was the super HARD bed....so much so I requested a topper to try and soften it a bit unfortunately it didn't make a difference. The other point was the shower kept blocking so you couldn't really have a decent length shower as the bottom filled up and threatened to overflow. I did bring this to their attention the first day but doesn't look like it could be remedied. We would still stay again because of the facilities and the location.
We love Shangri-La hotels and Chiang Mai did not disappoint! The service was amazing, the room was excellent and we enjoyed the amenities of the Horizon Club. One of our best Shangri-La experiences to date!
We stayed here for 3 nights for a conference. Always a high standard, the Shangri La rooms very very large, nice room amenities, turn down service with a sweet treat each evening to enjoy after dinner. Pool area is nice. The only negative I have (and this could be our naivety) is we asked the concierge to ring a taxi and asked approx cost. Driver took what we learnt later was about 4 times the distance to get to our destination and charged what the hotel said it would be and you guessed it about 4 times the price. Just walk down onto the road and hail a tuk tuk.
The staff Bow of the Horizon Club Lounge was forthcoming and courteous. She provided proactive quality service for us when I made enquiries about my spa bookings and restaurant choices for dining. Her excellent working attitude and zealous assistance deserve my appreciation and commendation. The housekeeping staff are good and our rooms were kept clean and tidy when we returned to our rooms after our meals during our 3-night stay.
I have no serious complaints with my nearly week-long stay at Shangri-la, but disappointingly nothing that stands out as really GREAT either. The facility is a bit old, but nicely maintained. Location, near the Night Bazaar is very good. Rooms neat and clean, with comfortable bed and linens, good lighting, and nice view. Good bathroom amenities. Wifi reliable and fast. Pool and gardens well maintained and relaxing. Breakfast good, but lacking variety and creativity (pretty much the same everyday, with minor variations). The best thing about the establishment is the staff, who are very friendly and helpful (albeit could use some additional training in some aspects). All-in-all, a very pleasant stay, but not the kind of experience that will make me exclaim as wonderful going forward. I travel a lot and stay in many hotels. Frankly, I would have expected more from Shangri-la, especially in a place like Chiang Mai, where good service and customer attention is famous.
The Shangri-La Hotel Chiang Mai is a centrally located luxury residence for those who wish to explore the many wonders of the Chiang Mai province, and beyond. Jungle adventures and shopping forays aside, or just arriving in town, the many restaurants and facilities at the Shangri-La are sure to please a weary traveller in need of recovery from the sensory overload. Rooms and suites in this property are immaculately maintained and presented, right down the the classic decor that is a hallmark of this leading brand. For those in need of some stress-relief, the well-equipped gym is adjacent to separate men's and women's jacuzzi & steam rooms, while just outside is a fabulous, large swimming pool with plenty of seating for the sun-worshippers and book-worms alike. A gentle stroll beyond the pool perimeter reveals a hidden treasure nestled deep in the hotel gardens that is "Chi, The Spa at Shangri-La", a secluded commune of private spa villas, each with steam-room, shower, lockers, and a treatment room in which your comfort is paramount. Almost impossible to believe such a place exists! The staff at Chi are professional, friendly, and provide a relaxing environment and exceptional service in every treatment. Make sure you book well in advance, as this spa can be very busy. Restaurants at the hotel all offer an amazing array of superbly prepared dishes with a stunning variety that is sure to appeal to all tastes, including many vegetarian dishes. If you have any special requirements, don't forget to specify when you book, and just ask the friendly and helpful staff if you wish to enquire about specific dietary needs. From arrival to departure, my stay at the Shangri-La was perfect. Just relax, and immerse yourselves in the old-world charm, grace and atmosphere. You will enjoy the warm smiles and helpful nature of all those who are proud to work in such a fine establishment.
A truly mesmerizing stay with my family of 4. Great anticipation and swift responses was the key asset which everyone in Shangri-La Chiangmai had. They whisked us from the airport in a nice Camry, and accommodated early check-in - 9.30am and equally embraced patience and support at all time. The Horizon Club stay was an amazing experience with extended check out timing of 3pm hence providing me extended privilege and value for the money and time spent.
