For a Shangri-La, I expected much better poolside service, conceirge help, and overall impressiveness. I was a bit disappointed. I won't recommend this hotel to anyone as I'm sure there are better ones in the area that don't cost as much. The bartender by the pool often seemed annoyed and drinks weren't made very well. The conceirge didn't speak excellent English so that made communication a bit more difficult. At smaller, less expensive hotels in this region, I've received far more amenities included and better priced. I refused to pay for the breakfast buffet due to its astronomical price, on principle. The pool and comfortable beds almost make up for the mediocre service. The pool is the best hotel pool I've ever been to. The beds were amazing! I spent 4 nights here with my sister and we were upgraded to 2 queen-sized beds on a high floor overlooking the pool area. It was a great view. Location-wise, you're within walking distance to the Night Market but not much else. We walked to the Old City but it's a bit of a hike if you're not a walker.
George in the Horizon Club lounge was wonderful, taking excellent care of us with local recommendations as well as making reservations for us at the Shangri-La in Bangkok for the next part of our holiday. He worked diligently on the reservation and even had us upgraded and provided for massages for the whole family- a wonderful way to end our holiday prior to our long journey home. This attentive service is a fine representation of the Shangri la experience. From the warm welcome at the airport to checkin In the Horizon Club to the pool staff and the restaurants, a true 5 star experience...I don't think we would have found a better resort in Chiang Mai if we tried...
Afternoon Tea Buffet at The Lobby Lounge, Shangri-La Hotel, Chiang Mai - It was the third day of Songkran (Thai New Year) and my wife and I decided to stay indoors to avoid getting doused by groups of young and old (and, at times, drunk - from moonshine Thai whisky, so I was told) waiting to ambush everyone who happens to pass by. We decided to walk through the different levels of the hotel as well as by the pool and spa areas to stretch our legs. Looks like almost everyone had the same idea as the spa was fully booked today. Just as when we were about to head back to our room, we chanced upon the Lobby Lounge - and we were pleasantly surprised to learn that the hotel offered an afternoon Tea buffet every Saturday, from 1-5 pm. As we had nothing planned for the afternoon, we decided that Tea was our best option - and we were not disappointed. The staff was very hospitable. The two young chefs on hand were very helpful. The seats had an excellent view of the gardens, an occasional bird, and the pool and its captive guests who were brave enough to endure the midday sun. One can tell from the photos I've posted that the selection of savoury and sweet treats was vast, varied, and of excellent quality. Among my favourites were: prosciutto di Parma, smoky Chiang Mai goat cheese, mushroom & micro rocket on baguette, opera cake, and the hazelnut eclaire. If I were to knit pick, I have to confess that I found the chocolate and hazelnut cake way too sweet for my taste. But it doesn't end there. The two young, helpful chefs I mentioned earlier approached us towards the end of our Tea to offer us their (and by their own admission, their executive chef's) Tiramisu that will be constructed before your very eyes. So, naturally, we opted to each go for it - twice! Clearly another welcome surprise treat from the Lobby Lounge. I'll post the photos of the process in another review to immediately follow this and even if the pics get jumbled up once uploaded, one can easily establish the sequence us the cup slowly fills up. No doubt, this made what could have been a so-so afternoon, a memorable one! I highly recommend the Afternoon Tea Buffet!
We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. Our room was beautifully set up for us and our housekeeper Joe was so kind and made sure our room was perfect for us when we returned. He left us lovely notes on the bed.
Nice hotel, good location, five minutes walk to Night Bazaar If your holiday is to eat, drink and be merry, breakfast here is Fab, Drinks and food at Shangrila-La executive lounge were worth an every penny. Staff are really helpful. Big room, nice bathroom.
As you would expect from the Shangri-La group, an excellent experience. We upgraded to the 11th floor which was good. Excellent service and good food. Not cheap, but what do you expect? Good comfortable rooms with soft beds. The pool is lovely but can get very hot. The kiddies' pools is a shaded, cool retreat, but could be cleaner.
Excellent in every way- especially the staff. We paid a little extra ( not that much when you consider we didn't need to eat out once) for the club horizon room. The drinks and "canapés" were more like a restaurant dinner buffet! absolutely gorgeous. Waited on hand and foot. The staff are the best I have experienced anywhere and I travel extensively.
Stayed here for 5 nights at the end of March beginning of April 2017. This is an excellent hotel. all the staff we met in the hotel were great and really friendly and always willing to have a chat. The décor throughout the hotel is fab. the food was good also. the room was excellent and the housekeeping also. The pool area is a little suntrap and very peaceful. Will definitely stay here the next time we come to Chiang Mai.
Had an excellent stay here l. The f and b really rocks and the Lin took excellent care of us. The rooms were clean was relaxing. So much to do in the city! Find yourself and alignment. Your spirit kind of vibe. Nice food amd drinks!
Chef Pool cooked very good pached eggs on April 01 breakfast. The best for me in the last 5 years. Thick egg white wall with no tails and with smooth skin. Egg yolk was slightly runny in response to a medium cooked order.
