Just back from a couple of nights with a few friends on a A/I stay. The hotel was clean and roomy, no problems with the house keeping what so ever. A good choice at breakfast with the option to have items cooked, to order. A very large choice on the menu for the evening meal, well cooked and presented with large portions. We found the staff to be very warm, friendly and extremely helpful and we had some laughs. So a big thank you for their care and fantastic attention to Michelle, Rammer, Prakrit, Doreen and, although, we didn't meet him, Mark, the chef, because the food was so good, but the lamb dish, superb.
Just returned from 3 days here. We have stayed here before as it is very convenient for Chester and the Wirral. We liked the refurbished reception and Ice Bar. The room was comfortable and clean. But the main asset of this hotel is its staff. They were all polite, helpful and friendly; special thanks to Michelle, Rammer and Prukit who looked after us in the restaurant and bar - quality service with quality food. We will certainly be back.
This is the second stay at this hotel for us as its near Chester Zoo, which we like to visit now and again. They've had some decorating done since last time and the bar / reception is nice and fresh and smart. The room also, was quite nice with a nice comfy bed... wasn't so keen on the view of the air conditioning system though. And there were some maintenance issues with a broken fan and dud bulb in the bathroom, and a faulty bathroom door. The thing that got me this time though was that they were having a big party in one of the function rooms - no problem there. But the room were put in was right above the function room, with loud music carrying on until 00:45. i know that is not really that late in the grand scheme of things, but i'd planned on getting some decent sleep as we were having a long day at the Zoo the next day. This was not to be. I think they should have mentioned that there was a big party going and maybe given us a room that was away from the function room. We didn't know about the noise problem until it was too late. Plus points are that dinner was scrummy and the breakfast was fresh and tasty.
This would have been a perfectly effective budget hotel as it was basic and clean. The bed was comfortable and cooked breakfast lovely with a basic range . Sadly for us the hotel did not charge budget prices and the rating was questionable. The decor is tired and dated to the 1980s such as wine glasses as lampshades in the restaurant and the enamel bath was badly damaged and left Clumsily unrepaired ( see picture). The front entrance has water gushing from the drain pipes in the rain. A Printed note outside the main door says "please extinguishe ciggerrettes in tray. Spelling should be checked at a 3 star hotel. The service and level of customer service was questionable for a three star hotel: 1. The hotel did not respond to my email request for local travel advice prior to arrival 2. A room at £100 per night provided only bath gel for one person despite two people occupancy. 3. Asked reception where swimming pool was. When I got there it needed a code so I had to return to reception to get code. 4. No towels provided in pool or advised beforehand so I had to return to room to get a towel ( third attempt at accessing pool) 5. No radiators on in room or heated towel drier so swimming costume could not be dried for next day and then your towel was wet 6. Reception gave out our room number (albeit to a family member) but the first I have seen this practice 7. Breakfast: There was no one to seat you. . After 10 minutes waiting and another person joining the queue we just found a seat. No staff around 10 minutes later a lady came in with a booking list and standing in the front of the restaurant like a school mistress said she was sorry but the list was late in being printed out. She called our room numbers out and we had to put up our hands to say we were there and answer her question " have you paid in advance for breakfast?"Great now everyone knows our room number 4.30pm tried to order bar food and told that no chef until 6pm so bar food not available during the day. Not sure this is clear on website when booking Wanted to telephone my sister in her room. Staff advised a pressed 9 first and then her number but this was wrong. Rang reception again and was told she knew she had given me wrong advice and now knew to press 2 but never made an effort to ring to let me know This hotel has a huge amount of potential with just 3 or 4 hotels in the area .It has good parking and is well located for Chester, Liverpool, Ellesmere Port, Wales with great amenities for families. It needs to establish its market target group and offer. If it's deciding to utilise the local market of running events ( such as driving courses for those who wish to take this option instead of points on their licence) and local people using the pool for swimming under monthly contracts then this is great. Paying hotel customers don't want to feel in the way of local people swimming in the smallish pool. Nothing wrong with this hotel and staff are not rude at all,.To be fair I left a note asking for more toiletries and towels and in return there was a plastic bag of laundered towels in the room and more toiletries. Other guests spoke of exclusive deals including all food and drinks at the same rate as a need to show balance. For me ( a regular user of hotels) It just didn't act or feel like a hotel of star and £100 a night given it is the same cost as other high named hotels in the area.
We had a weekend stay at the Mercure Chester North Woodhey House Hotel, the hotel is very clean and tidy, staff are extremely helpful and kind and our room was great, only sorry we didn't have enough time to try the swimming pool, but definitely will on our next visit.
My daughter bought me a two night break for two at this hotel. We weren’t expecting much but chose it for its close proximity to Chester. Park & ride to city close by. We were pleasantly surprised by nice friendly staff & the freshness of food. The cleanliness was noted. My friend & I enjoyed a lovely breakfast both mornings & elected to have dinner in for final evening. Food was plentiful & delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would happily return. The only fly in the ointment is in its difficulty finding it as the part of Berwick Road it’s on is closed off. I suggest telephoning hotel ahead to get instructions. We never got to it by road the same way twice!!
My partner and I stayed here Easter weekend on the two day all-inclusive package. The hotel is a good standard and is undergoing renovations, however we were a bit disappointed at the standard of the shower cubicles in the changing rooms. The grouting was in a terrible condition and could do with a spray of HG Mould Away. The meals and breakfast was lovely served in the lovely restaurant and the standard of drinks offered on the all-inclusive package was very good served in the lovely bar area..The thing that stood out for both of us was how friendly and helpful all the staff were. One member of staff shone and stood out the most and that was young Sam who served our meals in the restaurant. He was faced with a packed restaurant because of a large group staying and yet he kept his cool. He is a real asset to the hotel. We are looking forward to staying again in the near future.
The staff here are lovely and try their hardest, but this hotel is in despite need of an overhaul! To start with the door locking system is failing, it took us 4 trips back and forth to the reception desk to get keys that would open our door. In the end the front desk staff came the room and opened with a master key. We saw several other guests struggling to open doors. We pre-paid for breakfast, but when we got there we were told we would have to wait 15 minutes as they had run out of food. Surprising as breakfast was still open for another hour! We sat waiting watching water pouring through the ceiling of the restaurant, with staff trying to find buckets to catch it. Looking at the state of the ceiling this was at issue every time it rains. When they finally got more food out there was just an small portion of each item which lasted less than a minute with the number of waiting guests. Finally, when checking out of our room we almost got stuck in the lift as the door malfunctioned. We ended up carrying all of our bags down the stairs for safety. Staff refunded cost of breakfast and room, but Mercure should be ashamed of allowing a hotel to get into this state.
Smashing stay here food great staff nice and welcoming Had the all inclusive 2 day break and didn’t get around to having the lunch as too stuffed from breakfast which was served until quite late. Dinner was 2 courses either starter main or main and dessert of which there were good choices for meat eaters but not so good for me a veggie although the staff were very accommodating in offering others not on menu. Portion sizes were large. Beer good could have done with a couple of local ales on the deal. Beds comfy Very clean room Spotless bathroom Had to fiddle with the shower but eventually got it right. Would recommend this place highly and intend to return
We went of a family weekend away and stayed at mercure. The hotel and staff were lovely. Very clear and tidy. Our room was massive so there was plently of room as we have a 5 month old so needed a travel cot. The swimming pool was lovely and warm. The receptionist Tracey Owens was very helpful and friendly!! The breakfast was also very nice and worth the money. I would defienetly come back and stay at the hotel again
