Being a travel agent I have stayed in some of the best five star hotels around the globe but when I wanted a short break to visit in laws at Ellesmer Port I was looking for value for money as I was paying this time. I usually go for a minimum of 4-star but a relative had surgested this 3-star hotel and as it was only for two nights I decided to give it a go. The price was right and the wife and I stayed in a double standard room on the ground floor. We booked B&B. The staff were very welcoming and the reception area, bar and restaurant were modern and clean. Our room was comfortable with a lovely double bed and a large bathroom. The wife liked the toiletries offered and I like the selection of tea and coffee. I have stayed in all the 3 & 4-star hottels around the port and I can highly recommend the Mercury.
Comfortable beds and rooms, lovely staff, decent breakfast. Hotel a little run down but for what we paid we were happy. Could be made so much better with a few touches, grubby in some of corridors and pool and changing room area needs some TLC. Such a shame as the staff are fantastic, Mae ling ( lovely lady) gave us some good advice to visit Port Sunlight which was invaluable and which we loved, staff are a credit to the hotel. Was January which is a quiet time of the year and was full of contractors (some of whom were drinking cans all night in their vehicle in the car park, which was a little off putting)! The staff are a credit to the hotel and were extremely helpful and friendly. Get your act together owners, give the hotel some TLC! Breakfast very good.
Stayed two nights here. Rooms are clean and comfortable however the place is let down big time by the poor bar service (no bar staff!) and each time we required drinks or to order bar food we had to contact reception and wait for somebody to come to the bar. Maybe this why the place was deserted. We have stayed here on numerous occasions in the past but it appears to have gone downhill over the last year or so. When staying in the area next time I think we will certainly try elsewhere first.
Very pleased stay with good facilities and friendly staff. Large room and comfortable bed.Good pool and Sana and gym. Easy access from motorway network. Near park and ride for Chester and Liverpool Would recommend this hotel for a relaxing break and quiet location
Room was nice and clean but the heating wasn't the best. Phoned reception And they brought us a new heater straight away but that also didn't work. On our way out for something to eat, we reported it to reception again who apologized and said they would exchange it again. We said there was no rush as we were going out and we could see they were busy serving meals in the dining room. But on our return it hadn't been exchanged. We left it till the next morning, the lady on reception couldn't apologize enough, we went out and on our return we had three new working heaters in our room. I would like to thank the lady on reception for her help
The hotel is convenient for the M53 and getting to our relatives in the Chester area. The room was fine, if a little small when set up as a twin with only a few inches gap between the beds. Unfortunately neither of us slept very well despite opening the window on a sub-zero night. Temperature and mattresses could have been better. Good bathroom, although the cold water basin tap took several minutes to run cold. Breakfast was tasty and cooked well, but choice of cereal, fruit etc was a little limited. Not worth the extra inclusive rate. Staff were friendly and helpful. We have stayed here maybe 3 years ago and it seems to have improved.
Stayed here for new years eve night! I found staff to be really friendly and helpful but rooms were really tired looking! Also we had a heater in our room which we was not told at the desk that the radiotor was broke and there was no hot water! I felt the room next door you could hear too much with the middle door being between rooms and they were trying to get into our room which unsettled me? Bar area was lovely and modern and breakfast was superb also staff very helpful! I felt for the price of the hotel and the price you pay for the drinks that the hotel decor could be more modernised and up to standard though
Excellent value clean tidy and warm nice comfy beds clean bathrooms, one thing no biscuits on the tea tray.help yourself breakfast nicely cooked a 10 minute drive to chester and the outlet centre good pub 2 mins walk the yeoman
Presently being refurbished, so some rooms need attention, however decor in community areas modern, stylish and eye catching. Warm arrival from staff with nothing being too much trouble for them. All meals superb, beit breakfast, lunch or dinner, hot, fantastically tasty, presented mouth watering. Gala dinner menu, 4 Course high class, lots of choice, food was amazing. Hats off to the Manager & Doreen Millet ( assistant Manager ) and the Team of staff who made our stay and celebration one of the best we’ve had in years. Wonderful hotel !
Had booked in a party of 5 couples, including one friend with a gluten intolerance, for the New Year's Eve Dinner. This was our third New Year dinner and stay. All rooms available on arrival, and my little dog Lottie settled in to her bed immediately. The hotel has undergone some refurbishment and the bar and suite set up for the dinner, and the breakfast restaurant were fresh and beautifully decorated. The New Year's Eve Dinner was served quickly, and was piping hot. My friend had an alternative to the herb crust on her rack of lamb, and this was served seamlessly. Service really good with more staff on duty this year. The friendly atmosphere at this hotel never disappoints.
