Our family feel very disappointed with our Christmas Dinner that we had in the Ciro's restaurant this year. I have emailed two members of staff at the hotel on Christmas Day evening but after over two weeks have still not received a reply. Whilst the food we ate was delicious and our waiter was helpful and professional, this is an experience we will not be repeating. The room was extremely overcrowded, uncomfortably hot and the queue for the carvery was ridiculous. Many people were complaining and unhappy. I felt sorry for our waiter who tried his very best to keep everyone's spirits up. We paid a lot of money for our dinner, £78 per head for eleven people for an experience which, quite frankly was worse than school dinners. There were way too many people dining in the area and no system in place to ensure that we were not standing in a queue for almost thirty minutes. We had been really looking forward to spending Christmas Day at the hotel but our but were extremely disappointed.
Stayed here for a relaxing night away . It’s a lovely hotel & our room was very nice & everything was clean . Only negative was the kettle was unusable as full of limescale so when I went to use it at 2am I couldn’t , we were then unable to get hold of the night staff to get a replacement. Would still stay here again though as only a minor thing .
Booked in to the Nelson bar for our family Christmas night out many weeks in advance and stated to the gentleman on the phone where I would like to be seated as we are regular customers to this restaurant and having 2 young grandsons with us we knew where would be best. However dispite being told that if we could come 2 hours earlier than we wanted that would be fine when we got there we were told that our table was in the bar area where a live football match was being shown with many people standing round the screen using language not suitable for young ears. The head waiter was quite rude when I explained I had requested a certain area and told that was fine. The service was slow and unprofessional not what we are used to at this establishment to add insult to injury the bill was incorrect and we were charged extra!!!! Overall a very disappointing experience.
I would like to express my total disappointment with my experience in Ciro's restaurant for the Christmas Day carvery. The event was poorly managed with both customers and staff becoming extremely frustrated. My issues are as follows:- 1/ The temperature inside the restaurant was unbearable. 2/ There were 42 people in front of my family and I when we were told to join the carvery queue. Only one person was cutting the meat and it took well over 30 mins to get served. 3/ My elderly relative was sat alone for the whole time we had to queue for food. When we arrived back at the table it was a further 15 mins before she received her meal. We were told it was because the chef had to cook another as we were in the queue for so long. 4/ The staff, although very good, were too busy to be attentive and seemed to be spending most of their time dealing with disgruntled customers. 5/ Those that complained the loudest had the waiters get the carvery for them. I spent a considerable amount of money to eat nice food in a pleasant atmosphere and spend quality time with my family. Instead I spent half the time stood up in a glorified school dinner queue. I am not one to complain lightly but wanted to raise the issue as it had an impact on my Christmas. My elderly relative, as a regular customer felt terrible having recommended the restaurant to the point she requested we take her straight home. Average food and terrible atmosphere. Tim
This hotel is gorgeous - the reception area, spa, bar and rooms are lovely. We were so pleased with our nice big room and spent the afternoon in the spa. It was so relaxing, just what booked a night away for. We went into Nelson's bar afternoon our dinner in the town for some drinks and sat by the fire, which was also so lovely. We retired at around half 10 and the whole relaxing element to our trip was completely ruined. There was a wedding and our room was virtually on top of the reception room. I asked at reception when this music would stop and made it clear we came for a relaxing break and not a party and the man said around midnight and that he would ask the DJ to turn down the bass...well, it just got louder so he clearly didn't ask as he said he would - we could hear every word. Why put guests in this room if you know there is a wedding on directly beneath? Why not give them to wedding guests or maybe sound proof the room? After such a relaxing day, this really ruined the whole mood. I think the hotel is absolutely gorgeous but if you want a relaxing night, make sure you ask for a room furthest away from the reception room!!
I got married here 2 years ago and returned for an anniversary meal in Nelson’s bar. You forgot how lovely the place is and how good the food is. Always welcoming. Not sure I commented on the actual wedding 2 years ago. Simple really, it was brilliant and nothing was out of place. Alistair was the main man we dealt with on the day, he was superb.
Visited on Christmas Day with 11 other family members was looking forward to the day as it was the first time we have all been out for Christmas dinner - and it will be the last time we visit here... As we have been loyal customers to the Grosvenor over many years especially for the cavery on a Sunday evening we were greatly looking forward to what the experience would likely be for over £70 a head. First of all we were late to be seated, no one bothered coming over to offer a drink for over 10 mins - but we supposed it’s Christmas Day and it’s going to be fully booked and very busy. How wrong we were. This was just the beginning of the experience. Once everyone was seated the dining room turned into an abattoir with everyone resembling packs of cattle. Everyone was allowed to go up and get their food at once with no set table by table plan to manage the traffic of people - yes that’s right over 70 quid a head to go and have a standard Sunday Carvery with the only difference being some pigs in blankets sprinkled on top. 70 quid a head for a Chinese’s style all you eat buffet. People stacked like cattle and all allowed to go up at once, hundreds of people surrounding tables of families trying to eat the Christmas dinner, elderly people who were trying to enjoy their food with someone basically sat in their lap and sharing their food - a very relaxing Christmas Day, luckily our table was situated in a corner so I didn’t have to share my turkey with anyone leaning on me. Then because of the buffet style service all of our table was eating their dinner at different times, people just starting when people had already finished - how enjoyable. I understand the hotel has an attached spa which I have been to on many occasions - however I didn’t realise the sauna came included with the Christmas Day meal. 4 times throughout my meal I had to go out into the foyer to cool off as the sweat was dripping off me onto my plate of food. I have walked the streets of Bangkok during Peak season and experienced less heat and humidity. The air conditioners were blowing out warm air everywhere. Unbelievable. I believe the staff did an excellent job on the day, I believe all the problems we experienced were due to very poor management. How can hundreds of people be queuing for food around so many tables and No one make the decision to remove the hideous plastic roman statue which looks like it’s been found on the side of a road from the centre of the dining area, it was rocking back forth all over the place because everyone was barging into it. I thought at one point it was going to fall over into a family’s dinner. Surely with so many people queuing and it being in the main path it should of been removed to allow more space? Overall for the price it was an absolutely shocking experience on Christmas Day and we will not be returning. Food was bang average and might aswell have gone to a Chinese all you can eat buffet for the same experience.
We were here for a wedding in December, only stayed one night but the service was excellent. Room well appointed and modern, lovely view of the garden and countryside The room the wedding was held in was lovely and really nicely decorated, our meal was in another room and food was great. The bar in the hotel is comfy and relaxed. Breakfast the next day was delicious and much needed!! Bed really comfy!
We decided to treat ourselves to a night away while the children stayed at their Nan’s, who was! a local dinner. Recommend you do a family Night at home. Quirky spiral stair case to an attic style room. If it rains all you can hear is the rain on the duplex style windows. Add to the fact any noise from duplex window keeps you awake, the green safety light you can’t turn off is the final straw for a sleepless night! Written as we look forward to checkout!
Just back from a Christmas break lovely hotel and very good staff who did there best to make my stay great. However Christmas day lunch was a big let down for the group I was with.We where seated in the Nelson Bar and felt out of it!.The main course was a carvery and we had cross the main lobby into Ciro's restaurant then queue for the carvery. Then walk back to the Nelson's bar with a hot plate of food through a busy restaurant and lobby surely a safety issue here. The quality of the carvery food was poor I have had a lot better at a chain restaurant carvery.
