The Kingman Airport is located 9 miles northeast of the city center. Originally an Army Air Forces training field built during World War II, this airport serves a small number of passengers (less than 2,000) each year. Flights are available from Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Farmington, with Great Lakes Airlines operating as the main carrier at the airport. The airport is also known for its storage and scrapping services, first for the military and currently for commercial providers. From the airport, many of the local hotels offer shuttle service. Since the airport is small, car rental service should be arranged before arriving as there are no car rental facilities on site.
In addition to the historic Route 66 highway, which is still actively used in and around Kingman, the Kingman Airport offers many historical tourist opportunities. The Kingman Army Airfield Historical Society offers visitors an intimate look into the rich history Kingman has played in various American conflicts. Surrounding Kingman, the beauty of the land abounds, whether you are looking to take a short drive to the Grand Canyon, the Hualapai Mountains or Lake Havasu. Annual festivals also draw visitors, from the Kingman Air & Auto show to the Mohave Country Fair. Skiing is a popular sport in the winter, as the desert terrain gives way to the rich mountains above.
Located on the edge of the iconic Mojave Desert, Kingman boasts a desert climate. Summers are hot and dry, with temperatures regularly reaching into the low 90s Fahrenheit. Winters are mild, with daytime temperatures reaching into the mid-50s Fahrenheit, but with nighttime temperatures dipping down to near freezing. Precipitation is not a common occurrence in Kingman, with most months seeing an inch or less of rain.
Rich in military and cultural history, Kingman offers a beautiful setting for your next trip. Orbitz.com offers the best discounts on domestic flights to Kingman. Book your travel today, and enjoy this beautiful city as soon as possible.
