If we start by a positive note, it must be acknowledged that the external parts of the hotel are pleasant. The staff is overall helpful. This said, my experience there was horrible. One of the worst experience I have ever had in a hotel. The rooms are of a poor quality in all terms. Small, dark, very old, stinky. They seemed abandoned... And there are no plugs to charge your computer etc. There was a very strong smell in the room — a mixture of moisture-like and old water pipe smell. The reception sent someone who spread a product all over the room and which gave a terrible headache to my wife who is pregnant (we don't know what chemicals were in the product...). To make matter worst, while showering, I noticed that water was leaking out of the bathroom (there is no separation between the shower and the toilets) in a very strange way. When I double-checked, I saw that water was actually flowing from the bathroom towards the room. And when I opened the bathroom's door, I was astounded to see that there was water everywhere and that my suitcase and other belongings were floating thereon. I almost needed a small boat to make my way out. My pregnant wife was working on the bed and did not notice the "flood" and could have easily slipped and get severely hurt had she stepped down in the "lake". We reported the matter and changed rooms. We stayed there during four days and it was impossible to talk to the hotel manager who was never there. He/She was made aware of the matter by the staff, and at no time, did he/she try to contact us and did not seem to care. The case was serious enough for any client to expect, minimally, a demonstration of concern by the hotel management. I would therefore recommend to avoid this hotel so as to avoid having an unnecessary headache during your stay. Oaxaca is a marvellous town and is worth visiting without having to pray that no (further) problem occur when you return to your hotel room.
Don’t stay at Hotel Oaxaca Real during holidays. We were charged $110 per night per room. The theshower has no retaining wall to keep water from going all over the place on the floor. They also had a rubber stopper over the shower drain to keep the sewer fumes from invading your room. When I took a shower it kept the water from draining so about two inches of water filled the entire bedroom. This hotel needs a complete make over. There’s no sound proofing and you can hear doors slamming all night as guest are returning to their rooms. It is centrically located but not worth staying there even at $40 during low season.
This hotel is in an excellent location for the town and all the tourist facilities. We stayed 2 nights and didn't experience any major issues. The toilet stopped working and they fixed it quickl and only when one of us was in the room. There was a safe in the room. We didn't try the breakfast going to a small cafe near by for a light breakfast. The room on the 1st foor for fairly quiet and looked onto the carpark, no noise from the cars but not great if you want to open the window. No aircon - probably too hot during the summer months by ok in December. Laundry can be done just over the road and is amazingly cheap.
Like a lot of the 'colonial' hotels in Mexico & Guatemala it seems to have only a 3 star rating because it hasn't things we don't value anyway. We had a lovely roomy room with antique furniture & 2 double beds. Well positioned near good restaurants & the main square. Our only problem was that our room was very hot. It seemed positioned over under floor pipes as no-one else had the same problem.
Very nice hotel only 3 blocks from Zocalo centro of old part of Oaxaca. Nice large room, walk in shower. The breakfast is buffet for 185 MX pesos (at 17.5 to US dollar). There is a small pool in the courtyard of ground floor of hotel at reception. I found the sleeping room to be very quiet. Its location so close walking to Zocalo is great. Highly recommended.
An attractive and pleasant hotel. Quiet despite it being near Xmas. Breakfast was a la carte and excellent. My room was large with a decent bathroom and a good shower. The swimming pool was rather cold. Nothing wildly exciting but a good dependable choice
Nice location, but this is a very noisy hotel. Guests are allowed to run around in corridors drunk all night without any check by staff. If you don’t speak Spanish forget this place as the staff will basically ignore you. Walls are thin so your get lots of noise from other guests
Awful noisy hotel with no value for money. Poor accommodation with thin walls, poor service (especially in the restaurant), old furniture. In some rooms, the window goes out directly to a parking spot and hotel laundry, what is unbelievable. Never again!!! And yeah. If you wanna choose this hotel because of the swimming pool, don't do that. it's not worth it. The water there is constantly cold, the sun never reaches it, and there are no sunbeds. And poor accommodation on top of that. The worst experience we ever had.
We found this restaurant for coincidence and we love it. Is a nice place with traditional décor as many of the restaurants in Oaxaca. The food selection is really good and you can try many of real Mexican food. The price quality and quantity is great.
The hotel is in a great location, close to everything. You will get all the necessities given your budget. The hotel does seem like it is an older hotel, but it is clean nonetheless. We had no AC in our room only a ceiling fan, BUT that was enough to keep us cool. We took out one year old and our three year old, they didn't seem to mind. The room wasn't as roomy as others, but is was enough for the four of us. If you are planning to stay in the room all day, you may want to pick something else, but if you plan to use it to shower, rest a bit and sleep at night...it's not a bad place to pick. The staff is courteous. it was safe enough for my girls. If you don't go in with a mindset of staying at a five star hotel, this place will suffice, the price met our needs as well as the location and safety.
