The room was clean and cool. The a.c. unit was a portable unit with a hole cut in ceiling for exhaust vent. I was not impressed with this at all. When we can back after a day out exploring we realized all of our towels rags and hand towels were gone but not replaced. For starters we had the do not disturb sign up. We didn't want anyone in our room. I was later told by front desk staff that because we added another day of stay the housekeeping thought we left. Ok I get that but once she saw our stuff in room and bathroom she shouldn't have touched anything. Just left. The sign was on door for a reason. I am a long time IHG member and I have never not received my points till now. It was because of the booking site so the hotel told me. That's a first. I have used this booking site before and always get my points.
We visit Athens for Athens SCUBA Park. The Holiday Inn Express is less than a mile from the park. We are looking for a restful experience before and after a long day of diving. The hotel has a couple of luggage carts available for hauling gear and luggage to/from the room. The free breakfast and happy hour are nice pluses! Book early as this hotel is very popular.
I was there doing storm work for 5 weeks. I have seldom been treated better than I was there. The Manager and her staff go above and beyond to see to the needs of the people that visit them. Mostly the Man that does the breakfast in the morning does an AWESOME job! Gives you a great start to your day. Then when your done they have a Managers special every night to entertain there guest. Truly a pleasure to stay there!!!
I rarely have to write negative reviews, so it's not my habit to look for things to complain about. Here's how our stay went: 1) They put a hold on my credit card before we checked in. I usually pay with a different card than I use to reserve, and I've never had this done at any other hotel. What's the advantage to them? The disadvantage to me is that I then had 2 holds at the same time for the same room. Why not do it at check-in like nearly every other hotel? Something to be aware of. 2) The room smelled bad. They acknowledged this. I was told that they had just painted. Perhaps use the paint that does not smell, or let it air out before putting a guest in it. Still smelled the next day too. 3) We paid extra for a suite that includes a sofa. I called the desk and said ours was broken because the bed would not fold in completely thus making it uncomfortable to sit. See picture. I was told that they would "try to find the maintenance man". When by the next morning nothing had changed, I was told this was not a problem at all - they ordered mattresses that were too thick to completely close and that it was fine - several sofas were like this. Seriously?? The woman could not grasp why I would complain about this, like I was being unreasonable that they failed to correctly buy mattresses and that I expected a flat sofa. I said I wanted another room or a fixed sofa, and that I expected a discount if they could not do either since I paid for a suite. She said that it was a $200 room and at $159 I already was given a discount by someone. Wrong. I reserved it online on their website. No one did me any rate favors. Her attitude about the sofa and the price I paid was very unprofessional. She was sorry that I had so many complaints - not that there were so many problems, but that I complained about them. 4) See the picture of the hooks sticking out from the side of the bed that were covered by the bed frame cover. Found those with my leg when getting out of bed. Not pleasant. Guess I should just have accepted that too. 5) Not as big a deal, but odd that the alarm clock was on the desk across the room and not on the nightstand, so it was hard to see when in bed and to use as an alarm. No visible plugs along the wall with the beds, so no way to plug in your phone and have it on the nightstand. The hotel ended up replacing the sofa and fixing the hook things after 1 night, and they gave me a discount for 1 night (after I asked). These were reasonable fixes. Had they been offered proactively and professionally and without an attitude, I would not be writing a negative review and would have given this hotel 4 dots. Customer service makes or breaks a business. In our case, it resulted in a bad visit by seeming to blame me for not accepting sub-standard items in a room. I should point out that I only had issues with this one person. Other staff I dealt with were fine.
We were in Athens for our daughter drill team competition and stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. Very impressed by the courteous staff and the cleanliness of the hotel. They put on happy hour every day at 3 with snack and drink , adult and children's beverages. Staff at front desk, sorry don't remember names were great. We would definitely stay again if we return.
Thank you, Kristy and Brittany, for an exceptional stay! Hotel is located near many restaurants and shopping. Hotel will be going through a major renovation this fall but my room was very nice, quiet, and clean. Free manager's reception with beer, wine, snacks, cookies, and popcorn. Breakfast was perfect with a wide selection of eggs, meat, pancakes, cinnamon rolls, cereal, etc. Premium soap selection. Free wifi. Entire staff is incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly. Definitely stay again if in the area.
We have stayed at several other places in Athens, and this is by far the best in town. They have an always friendly staff that goes out of their way to make your stay great. The happy hour is a very nice touch that many hotels are adopting, but few get it right! They have a nice indoor pool and spa. Rooms are what you would normally expect at an HIE. Again, the best place in town!
I stay at HIE regularly, and have been at HIE Athens for a month now on business. I have to say that this is one of the best I've stayed at. From the friendly staff, to the cleanliness, and the happy hour you can't go wrong here. HIE Athens will be our go to when in town from now on.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was warm and friendly, and it was so nice to have snacks and libations in the lobby area (limited seating). Very clean and quiet. We awoke refreshed and ready to travel to our next destination.
My stay at this hotel was amazing! When you first walk in you are kindly greeted and also offered drinks and snacks. The table of food and drinks offered complimentary beers, water, sodas, and wine coolers. There were also chicken slider sandwiches to choose from as well. I especially enjoyed the indoor pool. The overall hotel was clean and well kept. The only thing I did not like was the beds. They seemed to be in need of new mattresses.
