Caves Beachside Hotel

We have just returned from an amazing little get away at the Caves Beachside Resort. Walking into the room (after struggling to open the door), we were really impressed, it is very open and lovely - took us a little while to get used to not having a toilet door though, probably not something we would adapt in our own home... The room itself was very clean, but sadly far from being a 4 or 5 start space, so if this is what you are looking for, I would probably look elsewhere. The door was incredibly hard to open and shut, my partner had to do it every time (maybe I'm just weaker than I thought?) and our screen door wouldn't budge, so we had to have the glass door shut the entire time, which is a shame with such a beautiful view and weather! The deck is really disappointing, which is a space that I imagine is a little out of the hotels control, but there is bird poo everywhere, it's a completely non-useable space due to this, not to mention it's magpie season there - breakfast inside thanks. It's a shame that the hotel restaurant doesn't do breakfast as the breakfast packs supplied are far from luxurious - I don't think we've seen those little cereal packs and long life milk since my grandparents took us camping as little kids! However the lunch and dinner at the hotel is lovely, we ate there twice and would not hesitate to go back there even if we were not staying on the grounds. Now I'd like to be really clear - we will definitely be back here, and I hope they make a few little improvements prior to then. We actually got engaged whilst we were at the hotel, it was so beautiful and we will be making sure to be back not only because of this but the environment both at the hotel and beyond is just so lovely. I would 100% recommend this hotel for a visit, not sure if the price reflects the experience though and would surely hope they make continued improvements to the rooms (perhaps wifi as well?) to reflect the price they are asking. Thank you for a lovely long weekend, we came home happy, relaxed and engaged - we look forward to our return!

View and location excellent Dirty windows and screen door fallen off lower bedroom town house Food in restaurant poor and reported by family of 20 visiting Not sure how you can ruin spaghetti bol but the chef did with dry clumps of mince !! However family members that ate of the special menus reported no disappointment but all who ate off menu very disappointed we were there celebrating over weekend my mothers 80th birthday and ate two nights in a row, Great setting for walking, kids play area, nice pool

I booked an 'Ocean' 2br Villa for 4 nights thinking it was by the ocean as the photos show. Upon checking in I was given keys that said 'Garden' Villa and when the receptionist showed us the map of the resort I noticed that Villa #16 allocated to us, was nowhere near the ocean. I questioned it and she said, 'yes, that's definitely an Ocean Villa'. So we just accepted it. Just because they say it's an Ocean Villa, it's not! It has a partial ocean view at best. Turns out it is set far back from the ocean and right next door to the Pub's Play Equipment. Ocean Villa makes you think of peace and quiet and ocean sounds doesn't it? Not families and kids having fun in the pub next door. There is a view of the ocean but only partially from the balcony (obscured by another villa in front of ours and grassed area) - see photos. The receptionist was very nice upon check-in and asked us how many devices we needed wifi for and printed out some numbers for us to use. Then she said it really worked well around the reception/restaurant area but that we could 'try' from our Villa. No internet. So every time we had to send emails we had to walk to reception area. Then we found out the rooms weren't even air conditioned - not the impression we got from the internet. There is a split system in the main lounge/dining room but the rooms only have ceiling fans. Forget about a siesta (it must be unbearable in summer) as we stayed in the middle room (the only one with a King Bed) and the afternoon sun shines right in so it was boiling - even the ceiling fan was ineffective. The next day, before heading out we had to leave the split system on and the doors of the rooms wide open so that some air con would get into the rooms. We returned to our Villa after night 1 and it wasn't serviced. Silly me should have checked - was told they service the Villas only once every 7 days unless you want to pay $120 per clean. So morning after night 2 we had run out of toilet paper, soap, toiletries, needed fresh towels etc.! No phone in the Villa either. So I called from my mobile phone. Was told to just ring or go to reception to ask for more! I also asked for fresh towels which were delivered to our Villa not long after. Pretty disappointed with the place, I asked to check out after night 2 of our 4 night pre-paid stay. Not wanting anything for free we were willing to pay for the first 2 nights since we felt misled about the hotel information provided, but just check out before 10am that day and spend the last 2 nights of our holiday somewhere more like what we expected and get a refund for the remaining 2 nights we had paid for in advance. They refused. So we had to stay there or lose all the money we had paid them. What's worse is that Hotels.com the booking agent placed 2 separate calls to the receptionist who said she was powerless but in the second separate call from Hotels.com, she advised she could give them the email of the GM who was on site (she even insisted to them that our villa had air conditioning in the bedrooms)! You would have thought a nice phone call to us from someone since we were clearly disillusioned would have been justified. We heard from no one there. So overall, I have to say that it wasn't the experience we had expected. No clothes dryer either. We had to take out our rubbish daily and on the day we checked out, it was overflowing and the lid could not even be secured.

Lovely location, beach suite was really nice! Will definately be back 😊 Food at the hotel was really nice great portions! Quick easy walk to the beach from the hotel, great for families and kids. Room was really nicely decorated beautiful luxurious shower and bath in our suite

We stayed here for our babymoon at the weekend, it was just beautiful! The beach suite was well designed and up to date, beautiful spa bath and amazing rain shower! Walk to the beach is only about 100m from the suite, fab location! We ate at the hotel on Saturday night, the food was beautiful. The portions were huge! The mobile reception was pretty non existent in the room but to be honest this was prob a really good thing to take a break from our phones and enjoy the relaxing weekend it was. We were advised that on Saturday the cleaners would call to our room. We assumed this involved fresh towels and making the bed. When we returned only the bins had been emptied which was a little disappointing. I read the notes later that evening and read that for towels to be replaced they must be placed in the bath so just keep that in mind. Unsure why the bed was not made up but to be honest it didn't hinder our impression of the hotel Really fab weekend in great location would definitely recommend! We are already thinking of going back in the summer months once our baby had arrived :)

This place has the ideal location but is not worth the visit. The food is TERRIBLE. There are magpies flying around inside, the seating is so stained and dirty it's embarrassing. This place needs a total makeover. Spend some money on it to encourage your locals to return. The burgers are awful, the chips are old and cold and the garlic bread, well my poor Mum couldn't even eat it. Such a shame for such a beautiful location.

A Luxury Escape this was not. Rather it was an overpriced room with a few quirks in a great location. First thing you need to know is that mobile phone coverage is almost non-existent at the resort and therefore you will experience trouble accessing the internet on your phone or tablet directly. This is not something that you can blame on the resort, however what is their responsibility is the fact that they do not provide the high-speed wifi that they advertise. When checking in I was provided with the login details for the wifi, but told that it would most likely not work in our room as they were experiencing problems. What I later discovered via other online reviews is that these "problems" apparently have been ongoing for the past 2 years or more. I just simply appears that they do not have wifi repeaters in the resort and therefore it only works in the pub area. Next you should be aware that the daily breakfast pack of "a delicious selection of cereals, toast and spreads, honey, jams, fruit, yoghurt, plunger coffee and tea" is actually a pack of Just Right or Cornflakes, some apple snap biscuits, bottled fruit juice and a couple of pieces of bread per person. The bread will be either 1 or 2 slices per person depending upon what the staff feel like dropping in to you the day before. Also, given that the bread is frozen when dropped in to your room it is best not to think about how old it might be. There is no yoghurt, fruit or plunger coffee. As the pub doesn't open until 11am the only other option is to go somewhere else - luckily there are many options in the area. Speaking of the pub, what is the go with not being able to charge meals back to your room? Many hotels now seem to have the ability to charge meals back to your room not only at the onsite restaurant, but also at other restaurants nearby, so why they don't provide this ability here astounds me. I am also perplexed that a four-star resort do not offer a mini-bar. The room is interesting, to say the least. It appears that the person who designed the room was around 4-foot high judging by the fact that they have the lowest toilet I have ever seen and a bed that is also low to the ground. Speaking of the bed, it seems to be two single beds pushed together and does not make for a comfortable nights sleep. Also, would it kill someone to fit a door to the toilet? I know some people like to share "everything", but I think I am in the majority when I say somethings should be left to the imagination. I am sure when first built this resort was considered luxury, but I doubt that any money has been spent maintaining it since then. The steel framed furniture is rusting and the timber furniture needs to be oiled. The TV's are old, small, don't seem to pick up HD channels and have very poor sound quality. Lastly, it is not a good look to have the cleaning staff parking in 1 of the 2 disabled car parks you have available at the resort/pub (this happened everyday we were there). I realise that it is the closest to the storage room, but the staff should show consideration for disabled people (I am not disabled).

This is an incredible hotel. Gorgeous location right on Caves Beach! You can walk right out onto the beautiful sand. The rooms/bungalows are very nice and modern. Very clean and up to date. Only issue I had was that EVERY time I showered the smoke alarm went off! Way too sensitive. Another issue, if you're going there for business (which you shouldn't be but I was) is the internet. It's non-existent out in the rooms. So you have to go to the club/restaurant to get it, which is closed after hours.

The hotel room was good and was down by the lagoon had all the things you required and even a deep bath. The room furnishings needed some updating or maintenance issues, but all in all was entirely acceptable for the price we paid. The Beach itself is a lovely walk through to the caves themselves and best to do on a low tide. Not much to do at night around the area, thought the Hotel/Pub does its bit for entertainment. The Food at the hotel was tasty & were largish servings and no complaints on that side of things. I do know the internet access down by the lagoons is totally non-existent and we did have to tramp up to the hotel reception area to obtain decent reception (pardon the Pun) All in all a good time was had.

This is a wonderful place for a Sunday lunch with friends and family. The dining area has heaps of natural light and a view of the ocean. The food is good and the staff are friendly. It's wonderfully relaxing with a 'kids room' so everyone is happy!
