Manager was a bit of an idiot, either didn't understand that the batteries in doors do dead, or didn't understand how to use key card machine. Other clerk was great. Room was in poor condition, especially the floor, badly needed replacement. Not very clean, sink wouldn't drain, etc.
At first glance this hotel was ok for a budget hotel but further investigation showed many issues. Hallway and stairs were full of dried mud (probably brought in my one of the guest). First of all walk into room and no TV remote. Front desk handed us one that did not work. Had to wait 30 min for maintenance to get TV going. The next morning went to take a shower and the handle fell off in my husbands hand. Luckily he could force the shower to turn one. Told the lady at the front desk and she said the property was having issues all over with shower handles. Not acceptable. I am ready to give up on all super 8 properties. Franchise owners to not seem to want to keep their properties in reasonable shape. Once again I am ashamed to be a Wyndham stockholder.
Room very small, particularly the bathroom
Highly overpriced, I paid $120 for rundown cheap-looking room which should cost no more than $50-60. The whole motel need serious reconstruction. Wouldn't recommend it to anybody.
The rooms were very dirty and overpriced. Rooms appeared to have not been properly cleaned in a long time. I was grossed out the entire time I was there.
Floor under carpet has hole feels like rotten floor front of TV, carpets are mesirably worn, hallway is the same needs renovation STAT, prone for accidents. Breakfast offered disappointing.
It was adequate. I got a much better room in Roswell the next night for much less. Apparently the demand in Carlsbad allows them to be able to charge more for less.
Upon checking to this hotel, the lobby floor tiles were all gone and had an odd smell. When we got into our first room, it smelled strongly of mold. The toilet in the bathroom had pee and hair on the toilet. We asked to switch rooms, which they allowed and we then entered a second room. The second room also smelled very moldy and did have a somewhat cleaner toilet, no pee, just hair. The bottom of the shower had hairs all over the bottom of it. The bathrooms in the hotel were not clean whatso ever. It was very gross and for the first time ever we left the hotel in search of one that offered clean bathrooms. We didn't stay there and I wouldn't recommend that anyone who wants a clean hotel bathroom to stay there either.
For the price, you get a good quality room. It was very clean and nothing was outdated.
Poor Carlsbad just lacks any appeal for tourism anymore and that factors in to the quality and upkeep of surrounding businesses and hotels. I read that this hotel rated 2.9 which was quite a bit higher than some of the competitors however that scale is not accurate in my opinion. Hotel mainly hosts oil field workers and some assorted other clientele so the noise of slamming doors and odd hours will most certainly interrupt ones sleep. Check in lady was impersonal and discourteous. I booked 3 days and every 24 hours I had to renew my door cards. I'm assuming that is due to distrust of guests. Hotel is in immediate need of remodel. Carpet is filthy, Walls are dirty. Rooms haven't been touched in ages. Décor seems to be from the 60's. Breakfast was slightly above par but that didn't offset the run down conditions of the property. Most definitely this hotel is more in the 1.5 star rating. 2.0 on breakfast, internet connectivity, and cable TV reception
The whole building smelled like smoke even though we were in a non smoking hall. There was facial hair in the bathroom and bathtub had rust all over. Continental breakfast consisted of waffles and cereal.
we asked for nonsmoking (got a smoking room) asked for the lowest floor _(we were given the top floor) it smelled like cheap carpet cleaner had to leave the window & door open just so it could air out it was just GROSS
Hotel used mostly by oil field crews, very dirty, noisy and not maintained.
The staff was accommodating. Bed was clean and comfortable, shower hot, AC and wifi worked well. The hallway and room rugs were dirty, the bathroom tile in traffic area was FILTHY, the towels were discolored and mismatched. An attempt had been made to update the room (and to some degree was successful, the bed was clean and comfortable) and if a REAL effort was made to CLEAN the place then it would be fine. It wasn't creepy - just dirty enough to wear shoes when putting my feet off the bed on the rug. This was one of 5 hotels in a row I stayed in on my journey and the only one I have anything negative to say about. The amenities were all there and again, if they deep clean the place and touch it up (serious paint chips on doors etc) then it will be super.
This room was awful !!! Smelled like smoke walking in , and the room smelled like mildew !! It was in desperate need of updating !! It was easy to find , and was not far from the cavern !!
