We had a very late arrival (2:30am), and were never told there was a cutoff on check-in time, so make sure you communicate an anticipated arrival after 10pm. Somehow (we are still unsure how) we managed to get keys to our room at 4am - an upgraded room at that. The room and bathroom looked recently renovated (Junior Suite) and was very clean. The AC worked great at night - we never used it during the day. There was a safe in the room which we utilized as well. Hotel restaurant was a bit pricey, but the food and drinks were good. Main pool was very nice & water was very clean. We had issues scheduling a massage we purchased at the time we booked our hotel room. We were asked what time we wanted the massages, and then they were never booked. On the day of I asked the concierge about it, and they had no idea we had even asked to book them upon our check-in. They tried to accommodate for last minute massages, but we opted for our money back instead, as each of us would have gone at different times, and it conflicted with our dinner schedule. Overall the room was great, but the service was just alright.

We ended up moving from the bungalow near the parking lot - too busy with taxis in and out; employees etc but really enjoyed the bungalow towards the back of the property...very private and quite. Hotel and rooms were nice. We were disappointed in that they did not provide towels at the pool and only one each from the room for showering. Pool service at the pool was terrible. We had to get out most of the time to seek for help which negated being in the pool. The highlight of our stay was the deep tissue massage with Alejandra. My husband each had one and it truly was one of the best, therapeutic, deep massages that we have had. She had our experience there well worth it! The hotel does offer bikes but ensure getting up early to get them as some days they were all checked out but a nice ride, easy distance to the town of Puerto Viejo.

After a long drive from San Jose it was a bit disappointing to find our room not ready,so we had to sit around for a while. We had a family bungalow that had 2 rooms an outside kitchen area(only used the fridge)and large seating area with 2 hammocks. Initial thoughts were that it was very dark and a bit basic. However over the four days there I came to enjoy the outside space ,the aircon was very efficient and the grounds had visiting howler monkeys ,agouti and tourquoise poison dart frogs on the path to the room. The fridge kept our beer cool for evening lounging. The pool was v pleasant although occasionally got a bit busy. The location was good ,close to some good local restaurants ,the beach and a short walk to town. Breakfast (included)was fine, omelette and pancake station and buffet. By the end of our stay We'd had a great time (several pre-booked trips to jungle and snorkelling),and I had warmed to our bungalow and would stay there again.

Depending on the room here determined my overall feel for the this accommodation. Our first three nights were spent in the ocean front suite which was very nice. We could see the ocean through the palms and there was a lot of busy activity out front on the street. But our last night they had to move us to a "Standard Room" which was terrible. No frig, almost no lighting, very depressing. Breakfast was excellent, top notch.

We booked 1 luxuary and 1 standard room. Luxuary room was good en brandnew, but de standard room was awfull. It didn’t smell good and there was mold everywhere : in the shower, at the ceeling, on the lamps.... Staff was very friendly when we complained about the room and the next day we got a free upgrade. When we went to the pool, there we couldn’t get towels. We had to use those of the room, but there were no towels in our room. They promissed us to get some in 10 minutes, but that became 1,5 hour later. We had to use the same towel at the pool en to take a shower in our room. Chairs at the pool were dirty also. Wifi was poor, even near the reception. 1 positive thing : staff at the reception is helpfull and friendly

The lodge consists of small hats located in the jungle. They are equipped with aircon and fridges. There is a small pool next to the main building where the restaurant and bar is located. The food is basic but very good. The beach is in walking distance. The whole family loved the place. We were fascinated by the colorful frogs and other creature in the garden of the hotel.

So far our favorite in Costa Rica. We had a huge room (#311) with a very high ceiling. Absolutely clean. The restaruant offers great food for fair prices indeed. Also the kids enjoyed their dishes. The filet mignon was excellent. The pool area is great and the water is pleasantly warm.

We booked this resort as part of a package, but couldn't have been happier. We had a nice bungalow just down the path from the main pool. We saw exotic animals nearly every time on our leaving or returning to our bungalow. We also heard the howler monkeys every morning and most evenings. Had a sloth hanging out at the property one day. Was moving pretty quickly for a sloth. The restaurant was very good. We didn't arrive until after 9:00 pm because of the traffic, but were able to still order from the entire menu and never felt rushed. The staff was very good and helpful, whether in the restaurant, the pool (and bar) or at the front desk. Rented the bikes a couple of times. Make sure you get one in good repair; my seat broke the first time and it was a long ride home. It is close to another good restaurant La Nena, and also the jaguar rescue park. We were able to walk into town or take a quick taxi. When our tour providers were late, they offered to call for us to see what was going on. We looked at the hotel rooms, and would recommend the bungalows hands down. The resort also is just across the street from Cocles beach where there is surfing and general hanging out, with their own beach bar and restaurant, it was very convenient. The rooms were always cleaned to our satisfaction.

A hotel that offers a great edge of the forest location and easy access to the beach, you sleep within earshot of the howler monkeys. Great staff make sure your stay is good and the rooms are great cabins with air and cable tv, if that's what you still need in a place like this! Wi fi in the room was non existent and we used it in the lobby, great pool and surrounded by wildlife. The town is a little rustic and this is not a sophisticated place, it's where you come to see great wildlife, eat good local food and enjoy an unspoilt beach. We ate in the restaurant which is fine but right next door is a great local restaurant that offer some great local food.

The Cariblue was a lovely property and we enjoyed the pool, breakfast, spotting frogs, crabs & geckos (kids age 8 & 10). The staff was friendly & helpful. I adored the mosaic work in common areas & the tropical ambiance. The pool is lovely and sometimes there was a bartender available, but no patrons. When people were at the pool they were mostly in their own world. It is kind of sad to be the only one at the bar. I want to give kudos to Edwin and all the other staff at the front desk. They were kind and went out of their way to welcome my family. It seems that with a little more attention to details this could be a 4 star property. They were building more rooms but some of the current amenities needed maintenance (sink handle, shower head, one of the outdoor showers didn't work, lounging deck w hammocks needed repair). I wished there were more guests w kids for my children to play with.
