I love the new theme rooms - so far I have stayed in 2 different rooms - they are fun and interesting, but also extremely comfortable and clean. I love the full hot breakfast in the morning and all staff were so great!
We stayed at the Hearthstone Inn for 2 nights, March 16th and 17th - we really enjoyed our stay there!! The staff were very friendly and helpful, plus our room was very clean and cozy!! We were very pleased with the free breakfast - it was yummy!! We would definitely stay there again!! (we had also stayed there 2 yrs ago and enjoyed our stay then too - it was nice to see the renovations that were done since then -- looks great!!)
This hotel was booked at the last minute, the day before I think, when my husband and I decided to make the drive from Truro up to Cape Breton to tour the Cabot Trail. Our options were so limited this *seemed* like the best choice from our hotel search. We were just staying overnight so didn't want to spent a lot of money and the price was fair - or so we thought. The experience started out badly as soon as we walked into the lobby. It was later at night and apparently there was limited staff on site. The lady in front of us at the desk had some type of complaint and the young man working could not help her. She repeatedly asked for a manager to which he replied there was not one available and he also couldn't contact anyone else. The lady was very patient and never lost her temper, and the staff member was remaining calm as well but still offered no solution. I'm not sure how that turned out but it was not a good introduction for us. This took a good 5-10 minutes until we were helped. The same young man waited on us and was pleasant enough. We were surprised first of all to hear that the hotel has no elevator (apparently this is common in Nova Scotia which we learned later). We went downstairs to our room which seemed rather dungeon-like. The hallways were outdated and dark. At first glance the room seemed ok with newer looking flooring but the more we looked around the more things we found wrong (see pictures). The lighting was very dim and and one of the lamps had a cracked and dirty shade. There was some mildew in the bathroom and a hair in the sink. There was no ventilation fan in the bathroom. The curtain pull was also broken. Since it was already late and knew it would be hard to find other accommodations we decided to stay (and cross our fingers that the hidden germs were not worse than what we could see). The beds were pretty comfortable although it was hard to sleep in that condition. We could hear also hear noise from the hallway. We got up early and got out fast. They had started some renovations on the front of the building when we were there so hopefully it has continued throughout. Otherwise, I can't recommend this hotel at all. It was very disappointing and not a good start to our Cabot Trail adventure.
Friendly staff and a pretty good restaurant. It was my first night stay and I received notice my Credit card was comprised and did not have my other card with me. The staff were great helping me get payment figured out with my debit card so I could settle in after a tiring day. The young lady at the front desk even helped me get a cart for my luggage. Service with a real smile and friendliness. Only in Cape Breton. Hope she did well on her Accounting Exam. My room was large with comfortable chairs, bed and large Flat Screen. Was great to spread out and veg for a few hours before sleep in comfort. The bed was great allowing me to sleep without waking for nearly 9 hours making me late for work. The Restaurant was OK. Not the best I've been to but one I would return to. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would say and 8. Service was impeccable but I was early for supper and late for breakfast . It's a nice place for a relaxing meal after working all day.
Visited the Hearthstone to gave our Christmas party at the Commoner. The restaurant was nice and clean, the food was good and we had a very good time. Johnathon was a most gracious host and we had a great time!
staff was very friendly and restaurant is awesome. Sleeping accommodations where nice,,, spacious and clean and comfortable. Great that you don't have to pay for parking and there is a microwave, bar fridge and small coffee maker in the room. The main problem is really the bathroom was sadly not in good shape. fixtures were old and worn out and need replacing. The tub had epoxy patches all over it.... a lot of caulking and old paint where they obviously tried to patch issues up. No plug for the bathtub. Counter top looked from the 1980's. Lots of space but worn and dated.. The tub was just ...gross.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. Rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet. The added bonus is the wonderful restaurant in the hotel. Whether you're looking for a great supper option after a long day or a fantastic full breakfast to start your day, the Hearthstone Inn is the place to stay and eat. I travel to Sydney frequently for business and this is by far the best hotel for the price to stay in.
Arriving in Sydney, NS, around 06:00pm, after a daylong road trip around the Cabot Trail, from Moncton, NB, I began searching for a vacant motel for the evening. My first stop was at the Hearthstone Inn, one of many motels/hotels on the Kings Road. I asked if a pet friendly double room was available, witch there was such a room. The lady at the reception desk, Teresa, was very friendly and helpful, and quickly had us checked in. Teresa then asked if she could see my dog, a 5yr. old Chihuahua, who I bring along on all my trips, so I brought him in the lobby, where numerous staff members were happy to meet him. Teresa had a dog treat waiting for him. I'm always grateful towards anyone who goes the extra mile to welcome my dog; it would be so easy to say "no" towards the presence of someone's pet, and understandable, but I've discovered that traveling with a small dog is becoming more acceptable within the tourism industry, a sign of the times, and good business. Thank you again Teresa, and Hearthstone Inn, for great service. We'll be back.
Ideal for overnight stay when travelling around Cape Breton. Located just off Highway 125 about half way to downtown Sydney. Nicer than a typical chain hotel. Hot buffet breakfast included in room price. The restaurant also provided an excellent evening meal at a very reasonable price. The only drawback is that there aren't other restaurants or shops within easy walking distance. The one complaint I did have was that there was no one in attendance at the front desk at 10.30 pm when I phoned down about a noisy air conditioner running in the vacant room next door.
My wife and I spent an overnight at the Hearthstone Inn while touring Cape Breton and after visiting Louisbourg. The rooms were nice, quiet and clean and the service was very good. There is plenty of parking in the front. We didn't have time to enjoy the amenities except for the pub/restaurant. The price was reasonable albeit on the high side. Recommended.
