Stopped here on a motorcycle trip. The staff were very nice and polite but I had a room in the basement and it just has a damp smell. There appears to be dehumidifiers going in the corridors which doesn't inspire confidence. The room wasn't that clean either.....hair in the bathroom and the carpet could have been vacuumed properly. It's very average and I'd rather pay extra and stay elsewhere in future.
I think this place could be good. It has a nice pool and good location for Sydney or even as a home base for visiting Louisbourg and Glace Bay (which is how we used it). I just think it is understaffed and trying to be more than it is. We stayed on the bottom floor and it was just damp. It smelled musty and the floors were wet every morning (no carpeting in the room was a blessing). If I had to stay here again I would try the upper floors. It was clean and comfortable otherwise. I should say that the staff, while it looks like they are overworked, are really friendly and helpful. I need to mention James who went above and beyond helping us out. I would also mention the woman (I didn't get her name - we were there on the morning of August 5) who was working during our breakfast. She was by herself and served the whole dining room. She was a champ! She really needed help and eventually some people from the kitchen stepped out to help her. I should say that out of all the hotels that we stayed at during our two-week road trip out east that offered breakfast, this was the ONLY one that did NOT include juice with breakfast. Who does that? If you are going to advertise breakfast then you need to include juice in the meal. That is just silly. Overall the place needs to step it up a little. Our room had an access to the inner courtyard which was a nice place to sit in the evening and even to eat a meal that you brought yourself or ordered a pizza. The downside is that the lights stay on so if you want to get to sleep early, you will hear noises outside your room and light will creep in. It is clean and comfortable, but stay away from the bottom floor or you will wake up damp in the morning.
Lower priced by $50/night compared to downtown hotels. Very convenient and has a restaurant in the lobby area and a small bar. Good for families because of the restaurant. Nice sized pool and seems maintained. No elevator despite three floors. Rooms were average quality and our "Queen" room only had large double beds. Rooms were renovated but did not get the high quality treatment, such as the bathroom. No fan, regular shower head and the sink tap handle kept coming off. Very friendly and hardworking staff.
The photos online are deceptive, this hotel requires updating in the rooms and the pool area. The breakfast is good, the restaurant is also OK, although our waitress was not overly attentive! It's easily 20minutes walk to the centre of Sydney.
This hotel is a bit dated, but a sign says they are in the process of renovating. Our room was large, comfortable and clean, and the beds were comfortable. The sink in the room was rusty which was a bit of a turnoff. We enjoyed the breakfast. There was lots of choice. The jazz festival was going on which made it hard to find parking, but we enjoyed listening to some of the music from our room. It was over by the time we went to bed, so we were not bothered by it.
As advertised, value is ok for this hotel but bathroom was dirty which complete turnoff! Also jazz festival was going on in courtyard right outside our room until 10:30. No prior warning provided which unacceptable given that inn was hosting the event.
Stayed one night in August. The front desk person was friendly and helpful checking in and checking out. The room was spacious and the king bed very comfortable. The bathroom was a little tight but totally acceptable. The toilet didn’t always flush well so we reported it when leaving. There was a fridge, microwave and small coffee maker in our room. The heating/cooling system worked well. The pool area was clean and tidy with change rooms and towels available. The pool itself was clean, in very good condition and perfectly heated! The buffet breakfast was quite good with smiling staff replenishing low items and topping up our coffee. There was a pub which we didn’t visit. Overall, a very pleasant stay at a reasonable price - thank you!
The number one problem - the room smelled aweful! Impossible to ignore. They need to clean the place up! Find out what is causing the terrible odour! Hallways also smelled. They need to rip out the carpets, clean the floors, get rid of old lamp shades, curtains, all fabrics contains odours. Also, taps came off, door wouldn't shut properly, pillows are old. The list goes on.
What a let down! My room was not renovated like the pictures suggest. Old bedding, dated bathroom with bad lighting and crappy shower head. Bath towels were brand new but never washed, still had stickers on them and left a ton of fuzzies everywhere. Floors were filthy, and there was nowhere to sit aside from the bed or the one office chair. Window was painted shut. Half the reason I chose this hotel was for its facilities but the gym was "not open due to repairs", and the murky pool was not very inviting. Breakfast buffet was included in the stay, but the drinks were not. And you have to let the staff know when the tiny offerings of overcooked eggs and sausage needed refilling, which was frequently. Asked the concierge to call us a taxi because we were further than we thought from restaurants, a little too far to walk. He said there's one really good company to call. We waited over an hour for a taxi downtown because, according to the driver "family welfare checks came out today and we've been running to Walmart all day", apparently this is a regular occurrence in this town. Yikes. Governor's Pub was decent food but super busy. Old Triangle Irish Ale House was such a disappointment after being at their sister restaurant in Halifax. All in all my two days here were a disappointment. Will never go back, not recommended.
Stayed one night and wouldn't stay again. We had a lower level room with no elevator for access. We had to park in the back and use a back door, dragging our suitcases up a gravel ramp. The room was clean and the a/c kept the room cool, but was insanely loud and didn't have an auto temp shutoff. Without it on the room quickly became an oven. Breakfast was regular hot buffet so good value, but we had to wait quite a while for a table. There were only two exit staff working and they were run off their feet plus the restaurant was insanely warm. Fine for a one night stay over but really wouldn't recommend. Stayed in far nicer places for similar price.
