I just wanted to say thank you to staff and management (Lisa) for once again making us feel at home while traveling on business. Rooms are comfortable. The staff is very accommodating. I look forward to when renovations are complete.
The staff, both admin and maintenance, went above and beyond to accommodate our needs. They were genuinely excited to have us stay and we'd definitely consider staying at this hotel again! Thanks, Sydney!!
Clean rooms, friendly staff (Johnathan at front desk is very helpful) great food and service. Undergoing renovations, and everything is starting to look beautiful! Can't wait to see everything completed. The ballroom is spacious and large for events, and is the most reasonably priced ballroom to rent in the area.
I have stayed here a few times now, it is close to downtown area with lots of bars and shops. The rooms are large and quiet and clean nothing too fancy but nice with a good heater air con unit. It has a nice little bar and good restaurant
Spent a night in Sydney for a family event - pleased with the cleanliness of the room, the staff and had a delicious breakfast before leaving in the morning. The desk staff was most helpful (Jonathan) when we arrived and a lady in the morning (name??).
Over rated. Even rated at 3.5 is to high. I stay at different hotels when I travel. In 30 years working on the road, this hotel is going downhill fast. Everything from the musty, dirty, mould filled rooms, The lack lustre staff, and the management, that are supposed to be on top of their employees or situations that arise daily, much like some of the situations I've read about in other reviews. These individuals don't seem to care, nor will they take the time to deal with an unhappy, or disgruntled customer. I do see some improvements on the outside of the building. It would look much better if the entire side of the building was Renovated, instead of the rotted wood look at the back of the building. What's with all of the colors outside? This Looks like a building that was erected in pieces. This will be my last stay. There are far Better hotels in the area for the same price, offering better quality, personable, knowledgeable staff, who go above and beyond to accommodate their customers. Time for a change of ownership or management !!
Arrived to our rooms after supper last night cause it was the only one that had an operating pool in Sydney. Got to our room, bathroom not clean, big brown stain under the sink, looked like someone has sneezed all over the mirror and the tub wouldn't drain while I was taking a shower...had water up to my ankles. Next morning, sat at the breakfast table and my coffee cup still had lipstick stain from previous use...not enough workers for a Saturday morning, waited a long time to get served...but the front desk is very friendly .
Well first of all the rooms need a good spring clean. The baseboards are filthy, stains on them. Beds are dated and not comfy. Found stains on bed covers and sheets. And if you take a peak underneath the beds, you will see that they are rarely vacuumed. The bar is quaint but the waitresses basically kicks you out. I am a pretty generous tipper and I have never gone to a pub or bar where I felt so unwelcome. And if you win on the VLT be sure to count and recount your money bc the two waitresses had to count and recount over 5 times. And still after the guy received his money... he counted it and they were still short 80 dollars. The pool is a decent size but needs to be cleaned, as well as its surrounding areas. The mold and mildew are easily visable. And breakfast... well it says til 10am but you better go down by 9:30am at the latest. We left our room at 9:50 to go down for breakfast and was turned away. Same waitressed I tipped last night. It is a free breakfast but I brought my wallet down to tip bc I use to waitress and know a tip can go a long way when you show up just before close. The restaurant was pretty busy. There were a few empty tables here and there.... with all the money with spent at the bar and for two rooms.... I am very upset that we were turned away. We got stuck staying here bc the holiday inn's pool was closed and we came up specifically with the kids so they could swim.... we will NEVER be back! Don't come here if you want clean rooms or good service.....
We stayed at the Hearthstone Inn as part of a group of cheerleaders attending the Nova Scotia Cheerleading provincials. The room, which contained two beds, was extremely cramped. It smelled like chemicals. The cleaning was slap-dash and the sheets on one of the beds was crummy. My children saw an old fork under one of the beds. Although the room we were in had been "renovated" the toilet was stained and it was missing parts. It did not flush properly and ran frequently during the night. On the second day of our stay, my daughter was asked to leave the pool for a previously booked birthday party. We were not impressed and would never go back. On the plus side, the front desk staff were friendly and professional.
The hotel was under construction, the gym was closed, the soap and towels were limited and on Day 2 my daughter went swimming and could not get a towel. The room had stains on the carpets and the tub plug was broken so you could not bath. The breakfast was not buffet style which we were not aware on Day 1 and they only had one staff on a busy Saturday morning making it difficult to run on time to the event we were attending. The staff at the front desk however were the nicest people and were helpful on what they could assist with limited resources.
