Small Luxury Hotel Ambassador a L'Opera4.0 out of 5.0

Hotel small, very comfortable, great location (by Opera House for those that care), good bar, great view from terrace bar, staff friendly, food good, generous provision quality teas and coffees in the room plus (something I have not seen before) an exeercise mat: great for those who want to stretch in the mornings.
From the moment we checked in to this smallish hotel, we were in love with its staff, attention to detail and location. Everything, from the delightful hand soap to the glass carafe of water in the room, to the beautiful linens, was thoughtfully presented. The staff could not be more accommodating, giving us an immediate overview of the area and its highlights. I would stay here again if possible.
This hotel and staff were wonderful. We checked in early and was given a room right over the front door, which was actually a lovely room but we asked to move to something higher. They were extremely accommodating and moved us into a great room. A little surprise of the hotel is up on the roof they have a magnificent patio that overlooks all of Zurich. We spent a lot of time on the patio. One day we took the train to Lucerne, boat ride across the lake to Rigi and then up a cog train to the top of the alps. An amazing day. To end the day when we got back to the hotel there was a dish of chocolates with a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY. We had not said anything and guessed they must have seen it on my passport when we checked in. They have every touch of detail. I say the hotel price point is mid range because everything in Zurich is expensive and we thought this hotel for the service and style was well priced. We would go back in a minute.
We did and overnight stay in Zurich anxiously awaiting our latest SL hotel. The pictures on SLH and the hotel website made the place look amazing. We cannot point to one major thing but small things that disappointed us. From checkin to check out it I would say the hotel is ok but not Small Luxury quality or service. A few key issues: Checkin when we were offered a welcome drink but they forgot. When informed they said it would be a few more minutes then proceeded to clean up a work area not help a guest or restock the wine. we went to room without. We were not provided any information for the property, breakfast, etc We asked for late checkout at night and told it was 60 chf per hour but to check in AM When I checked in AM I was told 30 chf per hour after 1. My husband found the SLH checkout info and it did not list a charge. They did accept my SLH info and allowed a free late checkout. Finally, the breakfast bar had very little food 30 minutes before closing. Overall it was a fine place to sleep in a pretty building. However,I cannot add the word “luxury” to my stay. I think most Holiday Inn or Mercure hotels would have been equivalent to this. I hope this was a fluke and the hotel provides better service to others.
We stayed for three nights. The champaigne on check-in was a great touch to get our stay started. The staff was helpful and attentive, rooms were beautiful and nicely appointed, with many pillow options to customize to your personal preference. The breakfast was extensive and delicious. Really a great experience.
I stayed at this hotel for one night only in March 2017. The room was very cosy and clean and the bed was really comfortable with adjustable base which you could fix according to your preferences. The location of the hotel is really good, near the theatre and just 10 minutes walk from the railway station. It is a beautiful place near the river.
We stayed at the hotel for a few days recently while visiting Zürich. As we both have birthdays very close, we usually like to travel those days to somewhere nice and romantic to celebrate together and Hotel Ambassador does not dissapoint. First of all, the location of the hotel is prefect- right behind the opera and next to the lovely lake, within walking distance to the Altstadt and everything else we could desire including the fantastic Christmas market and mass transit directly to the Airport. The room was neat, clean and very comfortable with a rather large and very fresh bathroom. The hotel also provided us with a smartphone at no extra charge that was very useful, both to help us find our way around town as well as allowed us to make free(!) international calls back home. But what really made the experience something extra was the incredible staff, and especially the front desk, that went absolutely out of their way to make us feel at home and welcome, and helped us make reservations at some absolutely delightful restaurants (that they suggested to us). From the welcoming glass of Champagne upon arrival, to our departure, we felt so welcome and well taken care of that I will recommend anyone going to Zürich to stay here and nowhere else. We will most certainly visit again.
We spent 2 nights here in December. This hotel is directly behind the opera house and some rooms have views of the lake. The hotel is a one block walk from the tram stop (#4 takes you to/from the main train station) and two blocks from the Stadelhofen train station where you can catch the #16 S-bahn to/from Zurich Airport and/or main train station. So, an excellent location. The title of the hotel is small, and you can tell this is true because the rooms have only 2-digit number designations. Therefore; there can be no more than 10 rooms per floor! It is a very welcoming place, and the front desk staff and restaurant staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are classically styled and tend to be on the small side, so we booked a larger category room and found it to be just fine. You are offered a welcome drink when you check in. Amazingly, the hotel provides each room with a smart phone for you to use to make free calls or access the internet and it is included in the cost of your room - now that's innovation and customer service! No need to use your out-of-country phone to make expensive phone calls around Europe. We booked with the rate with breakfast included, and I think that this is a good value. The buffet is generous and you can order eggs in your preferred style if you like. Overall I would say this is an excellent choice for Zurich based on location, easy access to mass transit, close proximity to the Christmas market (Yay!), and value for the price. This is certainly a more classic property with charm and grace - the elevator is pretty small, so don't bring a steamer trunk.
Direct behind Zurich Opera House, it’s easy to find just a few mins walk from Stadelhofen station. Plenty of food around hotel. Lake Zurich to the left side of the hotel and you can walk from there or from the Opera House to the old town and city center. The room is small but it’s done prettily, small luxury indeed. Very friendly staff, welcome drink incl orange juice, beer or champagne. I will definitely stay here again if come Zurich
We stayed at the hotel recently while in Zurich. We were very impressed of the whole experience. The staff was outstanding and very helpful. The location is great and close to convenient public transport stations ( including direct route to the airport). The room was very nice, spacious for European standards and very clean. The hotel provided a free cell phone which was a very nice gesture and helpful. We will definitely return back there in our next Zurich visit
