We walked from the train station and were welcomed by staff. The room is clean and modern, the shower and Aesop products were wonderful. The access to free drinking water and Nespresso coffee/ herbal teas and apples was a nice touch. The only reason I didn’t give this hotel 5 stars is that the Queen/King bed was just two singles pushed together and we kept falling in the gap during the night as they rolled apart. Perhaps also that they deactivated the air con for winter. There was also lots of Friday night drunken noise coming from the street, however that’s not really the hotel’s fault. Great shopping with Cos and Lululemon outside the entrance. And a lovely cafe with yummy breakfast and cinnamon scrolls downstairs. If we had a normal bed, we’d stay again without hesitation.
Love this hotel! On the outside the building blends well with the surrounding old architecture but the inside is clean & modern - very Scandinavian in decor. Love the tea and coffee bar (self service but free!) at the reception and the bathroom toiletries are wonderful. Would happily stay there again! P.S. - For those requiring help with their luggage, I don't recall there being a bell hop service.
The rooms are very well kept, they are comfortable, and have a decent size. I would say the best part is the hotel’s location, you are within walking distance from various restaurants, shops, and sights.
Very disappointing stay at this hotel. Room photos on @HotelTonight looked amazing so we booked (through the app). Sadly when we checked in the room we were given looked nothing like the photos. It was very small and dark (the one window looked into a central shaft in the middle of the hotel building). When we inquired about the difference between the actual room and the photos the clerk told us NONE of the rooms depicted on the Hotel Tonight App could be booked through the App, instead the only rooms made available through the App were the rooms like the small dark interior room we were given. Shame on the Marktgasse for this bait-and-switch trick and @HotelTonight you should not allow this type of thing.
The hotel is a short distance from the Zurich HB train station. Easy walk or tram ride to the hotel. Spacious rooms and en-suite bathroom. Located in Old Town Zurich with a wonderful restaurant located on the ground floor. Rooms are very quiet even with a lively walking area below.
The concierge were exceptional. Reto provided me with hot water maker (forgot what it is called) when he learned that I need to take a tea-medicine. And Oliver helped retrieve my friend's cell phone. This is how it happened. We asked Oliver to call a taxi for us to bring us to the train station for our trip to Lucerne. My friend, who was traveling with us, realized that her cell phone was nowhere in her bag. We thought it may have fallen during the taxi ride or she may have left it in our hotel room. We contacted Oliver who immediately checked our room and not finding it there, he called the taxi company, which called the taxi driver. And sure enough, the cell phone was there. Oliver instructed the driver to bring it to the hotel and we walked back for it. Lesson learned is best to ask the hotel concierge to call for the taxi. And know that concierge are smart (they think fast - at least, Oliver was), willing to help even in situation outside of hotel concern. Another personnel I want to commend is Nicoleta at the breakfast counter. All of them are good, but Nicoleta stands out because she is caring and makes conversation. We loved the water faucet outside the rooms, provided with glass and pitcher. it is a cute extra amenity which saves guests from buying bottled water supply which is not provided by hotels. And by it, we learned that Switzerland has safe drinking water, even in the street fountains. And they taste better than the bottled ones.
we stayed in room 210 with a what I would call a courtyard view - nothing to look at but other windows - and close . Not disappointed with that really because it wasn't a feature I was looking for . We had a noise in the wall that sometimes would go every 5 minutes for about 3 or 4 seconds . It sounded like a foghorn but I believe it was related to the air conditioning. When pointing out on saturday the problem to the front desk , she said she would have maintenance have a look at it on monday . Not much help as we were checking out monday . And another thing....Zurich shuts down on sundays - no stores open , but restaurants and some tours will run ....very quiet . perfect location and very clean hotel .
Zürich can be a bit tricky when it comes to hotels, with lots of either outdated and somewhat depressing hotels or extremely expensive ones in not so great locations. Marktgasse Hotel is different, since it is stylish and tasteful, in an excellent walkable location, and relatively reasonably priced. Personable service and great food and beverage options on the premises. Instant favorite.
Location is very interesting, in the heart of old Town, in an old and traditional building; interior is very modern and stylish, but some important points should be improved: no one to carry your bags, no frigobar in the room, they are very small by the way, and the staff should be better trained to help clientele in their needs.
We recently stayed here for a 2 nights. We had a wonderful room over looking the square in front. Room was quite large with a large bathroom too. Very clean, comfortable and had nice A/C. Older style hotel which has been keenly remodeled. This is a boutique hotel very very centrally located. Everything downtown and in the central is a short walk. You are situated right in old town section. We enjoyed walking through all the small cobblestone streets. There is no parking and getting to the hotel by car is quite difficult. Best left for cab or to walk. We made sure to return our rental car before the stay. The help was extremely helpful. We had a few issues with our flights. Front desk graciously got on the phone for us to communicate the situation and resolve. Further any other items we needed and dinner reservations they assisted us with. Great staff. Breakfast was quite good too. Served downstairs in the attached restaurant. Besides they typical breads & cheeses, they made eggs however you wanted prepared. If you are looking for a hotel centrally located to take in Zurich, this is the one. Highly recommend.
