Hotel Kreuz Bern3.0 out of 5.0

As others have stated, this hotel is under extensive renovations. The location is great - just around the corner from a pedestrian area with lots of restaurants and kiosks. There was no work going on when we were there, but the carpets on our floor smelled like they had been installed within the week. Our room for 3 people was very large and comfortable, but it was warm (June) and when we complained the air conditioning wasn't working, we were given a fan and told "it's not on". I don't know if this was renovation related or early June is too early for them to turn on the A/C. Given that the A/C wasn't working, I was surprised to see that it was set to on and making a lot of noise...and when we shut it since it did nothing but make noise, the maid turned it back on the next day. I'm guessing that the prices at this hotel will go up a lot after the renovations are complete - that is assuming they turn on the A/C as it looks like the finished product will be pretty nice. For now, it's still a construction zone.
I guess you can't have it all. It has a very central location for the markets and so on but, it was surprisingly noisy both nights. Undergoing extensive renovations. Breakfast choice was OK, nothing spectacular. Room was well appointed.
The place was being renovated. Rooms were quite small although comfortable. Tea/coffee available on 4th floor. I think there are better places to stay at the price. Parking is extra so if you have a car expect that as well
We spent three nights at this hotel in early April 2017. The location of the hotel is excellent and is close to the station, shops and restaurants. We stayed in what appeared to be a newly renovated room and we really liked the amenities and decor. One nice touch was the provision for USB sockets on the bedside tables. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was nice - having a small warm buffer included. One thing to note is that church bells do strike every hour - on warm nights, you may need to open your window. If you are a light sleeper, this may bother you.
The Kreuz is in a really good location, just a 5 minute walk from the rail station but right in the heart of the historic centre of Bern. The hotel itself is neither good nor bad - the room I had was comfortable if small. Breakfast buffet is a bit limited in scope (the waitress reacted with horror when someone tried to order a latte), but adequate. All in all this is a perfectly adequate base for a stay in Bern, without being anything to remember.
Even if the room I booked was a small one, it is enough for spending few nights. People are nice, room is clean as well as bathrooms. I did not hear noise in the room. Not a lot of choice for breakfast but the essential is here.
We stayed for 3 nights in November during a weekend holiday to Bern. Despite its convenient location, Hotel Kreuz left us feeling disappointed with our choice, especially given that there are cheaper options nearby. While we were there, much of the hotel (at least the parts we could see) was under renovation and covered with unsightly plastic and tape in public areas, including the lobby, stairs, and lift. This was not communicated to us prior to arrival nor even acknowledged on check-in. Management should note that it is good practice in everything from B&Bs to some 5-star hotels to offer patrons reduced rates during times of significant maintenance, but of course this was not done at Hotel Kreuz. Be warned, too, that double beds are actually two single beds pushed together. This hotel can be summed up in one word: basic. In our experience, this was true from the lacklustre breakfast buffet to the drab decor and lukewarm attitude of the staff. It is perhaps fine for a business trip but I wouldn't recommend it for a special occasion, as there are no signs of the famous Swiss hospitality here.
Simple rooms, clean but the best part is that the hotel is in the middle of the city, close by the restaurants, walkable from the central station. The breakfast is fine and staff is friendly. At the moment the hotel is in renovation but except the visible signs I did not notice during the stay.
We stayed here for two days in December to visit the Old Town and Christmas Markets. The staff at the front desk was extremely helpful in terms of where to eat and how to get around. They also explained where to go to report that I lost my phone on the train. The room was large with good wifi and comfortable beds. Wonderful shower. The breakfast started at 6:30 and offered both hot and cold choices with plenty of coffee and warm milk to go in it. The location is minutes from the train station and right in the middle of Old Town. We would go back.
We came to this hotel for a couple of days and we stayed at room #420. The room was furnitured with the basics and two single beds. The best part of the room was the view over the Weisenhausplatz. The restroom was fine, a large bath and hairdryer. The cleaning is outstanding and the staff is kind and willing to assist at any time. Outside the room, in every floor, there is a small office where you can find a tee kettle and many different tees at your disposal free of charge. The breakfast is enough for satisfying you needs in the morning. There is coffee, juices, pastries, bread, boiled and scrammbled eggs, cheese, jam, yogurt, etc. However, the best of this hotel is its location, right in the middle of the old town, 50m far from the prison tower. I strongly recommend it!
