It had everything you expect from a 13th century Chateau and more, in our suite we had two bathrooms and mirrors everywhere. The house has a replica bar and dance hall of the Cavern in Liverpool. The extensive grounds with its lakes and woodlands are amazing along with the Black Swans, Geese and Ducks, the whole experience has to be seen to believe it. The staff were good as was the meals.
Drove from Amsterdam to visit this property during a holiday weekend. We had expected to stay in Deauville but the lack of availability took me to the Canisy castle. I arrived at about 6PM, impressed by the view of the castle is you drive in the property. Checked-in is expedited, maybe too much. Very few information about the castle and the amenities. We did not get to interact with Patrick. The castle and its rooms have impeccable furniture. Rooms are large, cosy and clean. Breakfast is services on a communal table which was great to get to meet other stay. There is a limited number of rooms in the castle, making the overall experience very intimate. Table service could be improved. There is plenty to see in and around the castle.
Beautiful grounds with many lakes full of swans, geese, & ducks. Friendly and helpful staff, especially Jean Claude. It was amazing to stay in a chateau with such a long and living history. The rooms are extraordinary. Our dinner the first night was excellent. Would love to make a return visit for a longer stay!
An absolute pleasure to work here, I still have many fond memories. I worked her for one year and can only say again what a fabulous experience it was from weddings, parties, private functions and the Counts entertainment, I can only reiterate how amazing this place is.
As soon as Patrick had welcomed us , we knew our stay would be very enjoyable. He showed us our room which was wonderful and looked over the gardens and then we had tea in the salon. We walked around the extensive grounds and lakes ,coming across deer ,llamas, pigs and other animals in the grounds. We then visited the Botanical gardens and the walled fruit and vegetable garden ,all of which were very well looked after considering the extent of the estate. Our evening meal was taken in the dining room and the foie gras ,duck ,local cheeses and dessert with the wine pairings was the best meal of our 10 day holiday. We were looked after by Patrick and Reginald , the gardien ,in a discreet but excellent manner. We had our coffee in the salon accompanied by calvados made on the estate. Breakfast comprised of many ingredients sand was delicious. All in all could not have been bettered and we would recommend the chateau to anyone!
Even though my mesmerizing stay at this magnificent castle took place 15 years ago, I still remember lots of details today. The company that I worked for at the time, RSA Security in Bedford, MA, had a retreat at the castle for our EMEA team. I had worked on a project in Paris for two weeks prior to the retreat. When we arrived at the Chateau from Paris, it was almost dinner time. The dinner was served in the formal dining room, and it was a wonderful experience. We had a party in the basement of the Chateau after dinner where lots of local champagnes were consumed. I was told that we were saving lots of money for the company by drinking champagnes as beers would cost more in that region of France. The Chateau offered all modern amenities except there is no lock on the doors. My room looked out to the pond and the Chateau ground was well maintained and nicely attended to. It was such heavenly experience for me, that it will remain in my memory for years to come.
We had the perfect honeymoon at the Chateau de Canisy. There are breathtakingly beautiful grounds to walk or cycle around (cycles provided!) Breakfast each morning was divine and when we stayed for an evening meal the experience was so very special - we were invited to a cello recital which we will never forget. Everyone was so kind and helpful and we will definitely return someday to reminisce.
Definitely the highlight of our family vacation to France. Conveniently located for easy trips to either Mont Saint Michel or the Normandy Beaches / Normandy American Cemetery. Our host, Patrick, and his staff are outstanding and most accommodating. Overall, a very charming, peaceful and a unique experience.
This is a privately owned chateau dating back 900 plus years. Staying here was a unique experience for us coupled with breath taking views. The property manager and ambassador is Patrick H and he is in his own way as memorable as the property. Patrick is the host extraordinaire. He arranged our tours, Military Might D- Day Tours by Valerie Vaultier, our taxi from the train station in Lison and met us outside upon our arrival. Patrick welcomes everyone to 7:00 pm cocktails and introduces guests from around the world. While the chateau does accommodate up to dozens of guest there were only 6 guests at our dinners for two nights and 9 guests at our last dinner. Patrick selects the wines and introduces dinner. The chef was very good to excellent and the wines were well selected according to our tastes. Be sure to walk the estate and visit the little town of Canisy. Our room was on the ground floor over looking the lake. Our room had two bathrooms. One with a modern shower and one with a footed tube. I see from some photos that some have a copper tub. How fun ! All the outstanding reviews were all true for us. It was glorious and it is all arranged by the property gem Patrick.
Traveled overnight from Portsmouth to St. Malo by Brittany Ferries using one of their Commodore Cabins and of course their excellent restaurant, your holiday really does start the moment you have driven aboard, excellent service and food. Drove through the lush Normandie countryside to the Chateau, we had told Patrick, the manager that we would be arriving at about 3'ish and he was there to greet us. The Chateau is a magnificent building set in beautiful grounds of about 100 acres and then surrounded by it's own farmland and forest. Patrick arranged for our luggage to be taken to our ground floor suite overlooking the lake and invited us to afternoon tea in the main salon. Two other charming Canadian couples were also staying at the Chateau and we all met up for an aperitif and canapes at 7'ish with Patrick and Eveline who generously topped up our Kir Royales and waited table later. Patrick had arranged for us to have a separate table in the music room which was a sheer delight and privilege. The menu is table de hote but we had before arriving spoke to Patrick about the food that we particularly liked so any problems would be averted. Christian the chef is a charming man and his food was a sheer delight every night. The wines selected by Patrick from the Chateau's cellar were a great accompaniment to the dishes served. After dinner we retired to the main salon for coffee, calvodos and chocolates. All of the rooms are beautifully furnished in traditional furniture, carpets and lovely pictures, many of the de Kergorlay family. The other members of staff, Brigitte and Reginald were lovely. The experience is very much like being a guest at a country house and being welcomed like a member of the family. Patrick is charming host and manages his staff superbly. An experience not to be missed and I thoroughly recommend it. .
