Fun family vacation. Playa Norte is Amazing and only a few steps from rooms. Staff friendly and hotel and beach very safe. Hotel provides free platforms with mattresses/chairs at the beach. Can also rent a bit nicer elevated ones next door for US$15/20 a day. Many places CASH only, so bring some (US or Peso). Got a massage/facial at Spa and that was very nice. Rooms are simple but clean. Dozens of very good restaurants about a 5 min walk away. Free b-fast at hotel included is simple but good. We will definitely be back.

Still a decent place. But compared to 25 years ago, not so great. We have seen all around the hotel build up. Views are almost completely blocked. Outdoor seating is uncomfortable and limited. WiFi and breakfast are so so. Our room was dreary during the day but had a huge bright light fixated on the window all night. Beach still nice. Rooms are nice. But the two new bars on the beach in front of the hotel are likely profitable but ruin the elegance the location. Oh well. Things change your

Hotel is nice and in a great location. Don't expect to spend too much time around the pool as it's not set up as a place where you would want to spend much time. Nice, but its secluded in the trees and the pool is on the smaller side. They were shutting it down for a couple weeks at the end of our stay for maintenance so it may be getting an overhaul. Where this hotel shines is in it's amazing staff. Everyone is beyond friendly and did everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Even so much as keeping our sons sandals that he forgot by the pool. Since he had an extra pair we didn't realise for two days that he had left them there (we had switched hotels) We went back to the Na Balam on the off chance they were still there. Staff had them waiting in a bag at the front desk ... not even knowing if we would return. When we showed up everyone was happy to look around for them as they had forgotten where they had been placed. The lady at the front desk was joking with our kids and was a pleasure to see in the morning. Our room was large and comfortable. We were on the lower floor by the pool and there was a sofa in the room as well as a patio area with another built in sofa, where we would sit at night when the kids were asleep.

The hotel is very good option, good facilities, clean, friendly staff, good food...placed in one of the best areas of the island with an incredible beach; very good option; not similar to the Cancun experience, but we enjoyed it a lot better

My boyfriend and I decided to come here because it looked the most relaxed and comfortable out of all the resorts on playa Norte and it definitely was. It was laid back, serene, and most of all pure paradise. I would definitely come back here. The staff was very friendly too.

Unfortunately there weren't other amenities with this hotel - i.e. Snorkel gear, paddle boards, etc. However there are two restaurants and happy hour is when to buy drinks. You will find cheaper dining options in town. It was clean and there is a spa located on site. I would suggest getting a massage at the beginning of the vacation before you become too burned. :)

This was my third trip to Na Balam in the past 15 months. (I'm a little bit addicted to Isla Mujeres! :) ) My most recent trip was a girl's trip just for fun right before Christmas and Isla Mujeres did not disappoint! Check in at Na Balam was better than the last time (dealt with a very rude staff member whom I didn't see on this trip). Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. But, once again, their was an issue with my reservation (EVERY time I've been there, there has been some sort of mixup). I am recovering from a knee replacement surgery a few months ago and had requested a ground floor room on the beach side. When we checked in, they had us assigned to an upstairs room and had no ground floor rooms available until the next day. So, up to the second floor it was! Those steps!!! :( Ugh. It was hard on my knee, but one day didn't kill me. The next day, we moved to a ground floor room with no problems. We had to request refrigerators in each of the rooms. Every other hotel I've stayed at in Isla has refrigerators...I wish Na Balam would make the investment to have a fridge in each room. In such a warm climate, it is almost a necessity! The rooms we stayed in were clean and neat as usual. The lighting seems dimmer than usual. There were only 2 small ceiling lights in the main room (one by the patio door and one in the bathroom) that were the small halogen style. They didn't put out very much light (especially in the bathroom) and I had a real problem getting my contacts lenses in and out each day! The shower area was newly tiled in the room we stayed in and very clean. We always had good water pressure and a hot water supply. Housekeeping did an excellent job of keeping the room clean and sand free! My friend and I spent LOTS of time on the beach! The beach in front of Na Balam is amazing, clean and awesome. the best stretch on all of North Beach in my opinion! Na Balam is constructing a new bar/kitchen on the beach, so there was some construction noise going on while we were there...but such is the cost of improvements. I'm excited to go back and see their progress!!! I believe Na Balam is under new ownership in recent years and it looks as though they are making lots of improvements. I hope they continue to improve their reservation and check in processes to make sure guests get the rooms they've requested and paid for. I also hope they invest in refrigerators for each room so that you don't have to request one every time you stay there. All in all, we had a great time. I would recommend Na Balam to the traveler who wants to enjoy all the luxury of staying on the beach on a much smaller budget. I hope to return soon!!!

The Na Balam Beach Hotel is an attractive garden layout on the north end of the island. Though I was told there are no other restaurants in the immediate vicinity, there are. The one on site is good, though expensive music's good, too - blues, Cuban jazz, etc., appropriate for the time of day. The coffee is good, but the continental breakfast is cheap (e.g., no real butter). And go somewhere else on Monday night, the chef's night off. My Deluxe Beach View room (11) overlooks nothing but (noisy) ongoing construction, sand, the restaurant's roof, and palm fronds. The room is huge, but the shower/toilette facility is cramped and not very clean. Room lights are too dim to read a book by (and if you bring your own bulb, as I do, it will not fit the base). There is no WiFi in the room and in the lobby, it does not work. Most of the essential facilities (air conditioning, shower) work, but there are lots of things that need to be fixed or replaced most are beyond repair (e.g., bathroom tiles and fixtures, safe that only locks half the time, router). Be careful turning on the table lamps you could get a shock. All these shortcomings might be overlooked by groups of youngsters, but at US$ 183/night (incl. tax), I think it is a rip-off. This place is not up to international standards. The only reason to come here is the clean, soft sand beach, to which there is direct access. It is perfect for small children to swim and play in, but too shallow for the rest of us there is no sea life.

Na Balam was once a great place. We went there almost 2 years ago and had such a good time that we put down a $1000 Deposit for a group Yoga Retreat that we were planning for 2014. The person we were arranging it with was very supportive as we changed dates a couple of times, but suddenly she was gone one day and a new person was put in charge. We were reassured by the new manager Alejandro that we could proceed with our plans, and in May 2015 we returned and checked in for a couple of nights to assess the situation. We were put in a room where the shower leaked out and over the floor into the bedroom. There was a loud band playing in the outdoor restaurant that night, and so the next day we moved into another room on the other side of the hotel, which turned out to be next to a busy street and another restaurant with loud music. By the end of our stay, we felt uncomfortable with the thought of bringing a Yoga retreat here, and so we respectfully asked for a refund of our $1000 deposit. Management assured us that would work, and for several months we had emails going back and forth saying the refund was imminent. Their last email claimed it had been sent back to my Credit Card. It wasn't, and they haven't responded to my emails or phone calls since. Beware.

Best beach on the whole on island! Incredible staff, lovely and quaint. Best yoga on the island!

What a wonderful place to stay! Check in was courteous, and our bags were at the room immediately. Life began to move a little slower, which is what we sought. Room was simple, and they kept it clean, refreshed, and bright. Breakfast on the edge of the beach was great. Simple: toast, fruit, & coffee- always fresh! Service on the beach throughout the afternoons was easy & prompt. Restaurant staff very helpful throughout our stay. We would stay here again!

The hotel is located on the best part of the island! The beach is amazing and has great snorkeling right there. The rooms were simple and clean. The yoga classes offered at the hotel are truly a treasure. All the instructors were wonderful!

Weve taken the room with the pool view- the room is nice, but as an compare of what you paying its not worth it. No wifi in the room, the breakfest is pure. I wont come back again.

Best location but no facilities. Standard rooms only with bed. More expensive rooms with TV. Wifi only in loby.

Great location, very close to the beach and downtown area. Staffs are very friendly and helpful. Need some improvements on room cleanliness. I see ants on the floor almost everyday.

My husband and I were married at Na Balam just last week! We stayed 8 nights and had a great experience. We had several family and friends also staying at the hotel for various lengths of time. Upon check in we did experience some issues with the rooms we were given not being the rooms we booked. Hotel staff did work to remedy each situation as best they could. The issues weren't major things (example: my brother booked a room with a king sized bed and they initially gave him a room with two doubles at check in. When he confirmed with them that he'd booked a king room, they apologized and upgraded him to a junior suite!) My husband and I worked with Adely to help plan our wedding. I first made contact with her 6 months ago and she did a fantastic job of answering all my questions, planning the details and helping us the entire time. We wanted to have a legal ceremony performed and it required additional paperwork and a blood test. Adely personally took us to the lab for the blood test and to the location to file the marriage application. The direct assistance was greatly appreciated. We held our wedding reception in the palapa area above the hotel's restaurant, Zazil-Ha. Russell and Elvis were assigned to serve our wedding party that evening and did an incredible job of making sure everyone had drinks and a great experience. They set up a post-ceremony area on the beach with drinks and snacks and then the group moved upstairs for the dinner. The food was incredible and many of my guests tried things they'd never had before! When we first checked in to the hotel, we were assigned room 11. A very nice simple room on the 2nd floor that overlooks the beach. We had requested a refrigerator in the room (for medication purposes) and this room did not have one. Because of this, Adely upgraded us to room 15 when it became available a few days later, a junior suite with a plunge pool. It was FANTASTIC! A beautiful room with plenty of space and a small pool right off your patio area. The plunge pools are obviously hot tubs that are no longer working. The jets are still in them, but do not work. However after a hot night of partying on Hidalgo, a dip in the plunge pool was pretty awesome. In each room, the beds were very comfortable (something I've had a hard time finding on Isla Mujeres). The beds were actually pillow tops and the pillows were firm and comfy too. The ONLY negative thing I could say about Na Balam is that the water pressure in the shower of our first room was very low. It was perfect in the second room. But in both rooms, we never had hot water in the shower. Mostly just lukewarm. Not a huge deal as it was so hot during the day, a cold shower actually felt pretty good. And most hotels on Isla seem to have a lot of water issues, so we've come to expect it. Now...the best part of the Na Balam: THE BEACH! Hands down the beach area in front of Na Balam is the BEST section of Playa Norte!!!! Since it's located near the north end of the beach, almost no Cancun day-trippers venture down that far. And since Na Balam is a smaller hotel with only 33 rooms, their is always plenty of space available on the beach. The beach beds are comfy and the guys from Zazil-Ha will come set up an umbrella for you and bring you food and drink from the restaurant. The water is crystal blue and amazing! No seaweed or rocks to be found! The area in front of Na Balam is my favorite section of Playa Norte. We had an incredible wedding and stay at Na Balam. Adely, Russel and Elvis went above and beyond to ensure we would have a memorable and enjoyable experience. We can't wait to return to this magical paradise!!!

This was our second stay at Na Balam, overall the experience was fine. They didn't honor our request 3 month prior to arrival to have a king bed room with mattress on the floor for our kids. They took our balcony chairs while a production company was shooting a commercial on the beach (only one day) The restaurant staff was usually friendly, however the day before the shooting they were very busy and didn't seem to care about their guests.

I read the reviews about this hotel and I think they are quite accurate. The hotel has a beautiful white sand beach! (and very clean). It is like a big swimming pool. Just amazing!!! However, the big downside of the hotel is the service/staff. I don't know why people are soooo uninformed about anything you may ask (taxi fees, main park in the island opening hours, etc.). Also, in the beach I had to put the sun umbrella on my own (seriously?). If I were the owner I would put emphasis in customer service! Other than that...the pool is small and the rooms (at least ours) smell like humidity (this is perhaps due to the local weather...not sure! But in other hotels in Cancun it doesn't smell like this). The room has NO tv nor internet connection. Overall I think it is a good value for your money.

Very Quiet and secluded beach getaway wefedgwegtwetgretetwerrttert

We've been to this hotel many times in the past and keep coming back. They've improved the restaurant and the grounds since our last visit as well as the beds...the old beds were too hard, the new mattresses are much better. You really can't beat the location right on one of the most beautiful beaches you'll ever see. The area in town with all of the shops and restaurants is within easy walking distance and if you explore the side streets you'll find many great low cost restaurants frequented by the locals as well as the more adventurous visitors. Overall a good value with just the right amenities situated in one of the best locations on the island!

plenty of room, but lots of short-comings

The Na Balam Beach Hotel is an attractive garden layout on the north end of the island. Though I was told there are no other restaurants in the immediate vicinity, there are. yoga retreats beware!!
