Loved the room , we stayed in king room with spa, The room was large and plenty of room, the spa bath was great and water pressure for shower superb. The room just had carpet laid and felt great under feet, the TV seemed small for the size of rooms
Food good and the beds great It is very nice to have hot chocolate in the rooms and very good the dinosaurs are gone. The staff are friendly but their English at times is not so good. Restaurant closes quite early & nothing else around.
Site always good value, starting to get tired but work is occurring! The breakfast area needs new furniture, I didn't find this aspect good value. The happy hour is always popular, god do with a wider selection of beers
Short stay at the Diplomat Hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. Older style yet comfortable and quirky, loved the books and cosy nooks. Enjoyed the food and room service. Hotel is getting an upgrade and a fresh coat of paint.
This hotel is central & has good food and amenities they are upgrading the rooms which will be good it has a pool , good bar area & food has improved greatly it does need some more seats around the pool, for summer
The story of our Canberra holiday turned out to be the story of our Diplomat hotel room. From the second we went inside, it occurred to us the room was stinking of carpet glue. We immediately complained but were told no suitable alternatives are available. The best Diplomat could do was provide us with a scented candle (which, granted, was nice, but which was also completely ineffective against the stench of glue). The receptionist that tried to come to our aid admitted there was so much painting going around the hotel, her sense of smell had stopped working a while ago. We complained afterwards in an email and had the pleasure of the hotel manager promptly and very politely brushing us off. He claimed they had numerous people assess the room during our stay (without us being aware of it) and also that the hotel followed industry guidelines. I am also sure that in his reply to my review here he would portray me entirely unreasonable, too, which is perfectly within his rights. I simply claim getting high on glue sniffing was not on our family's agenda when we booked a Canberra holiday, especially not a winter holiday where outside ventilation is limited. Nor is having constant headaches, for that matter. I will also note that, at the advice of Consumer Affairs, I took my complaint to the website through which my hotel booking was made. It's a pity for all manner of reasons things turned out the way they did, because Diplomat does have things going for it. The room itself was nice and effective, if we ignore the very seventies decor. And there is free parking available, though in contrast to what the hotel told us you do need to fight for your right to enjoy the privileges of the tight underground lot.
I love the Diplomat. The rooms are cozy and very comfortable, the public areas are reminiscent of an old fashioned guest house with books and magazines and comfy chairs. I get heaps of work done, I relax. For me it's perfect!
Disappointing sad it is no longer the great hotel it used to be. Been conning for 12 years and will not be returning this does not suit business travellers internet disaster very empty rooms sting paint smell the cupboards old and tattered
Wow its cold in canberra but once inside the diplomat its another world. Undoubtably the cleanest room i have ever slept in. And the open space main area is so pleaseant to relax in. Breakfast buffett was yummy
