Novotel Cairns Oasis Resort

4.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

Front desk staff is friendly and courteous. They called us the shuttle to the airport, allowed checking before required time, helped with laundry change and gave us electricity adapter to charge our camcorder. A drawback was that some buildings were spread out and it was rather far to get to you room if you were lucky to get a room there. Also the surrounding area was heavily populated by flying foxes (bid black bats) which are quite loud. We personally didn't mind them but some people might. Australia is full of unusual and wonderful creatures.

Breakfast was included in the price, which was not the case in any of the other 4 hotels I stayed in Australia on this trip. And the breakfast was better than in the other hotels where I had to pay extra for it. Great location, just one block from Esplanade.

Check in was a breeze, and the trip person was awesome. Once we got to our room the disappointment started. The TV was very small. The room smelled musty. The bathroom was small, but was decent. The view from our room was of the Avis next door. Also, there were thousands of fruit bats hanging from all the trees around the hotel. They had a smell, and made noise all day. Don't walk under the trees walk around them. We felt rain drops, but it wasn't raining outside. The pool was big, but the poolside bar was understaffed. The pool was dirty throughout our entire time there. We enjoyed our time outside the hotel, more than the time we spent in the hotel. The morning buffet was decent. They had a chef area to make omelets but it was closed. The noise from the hallways was clearly heard in the room. I was woken up by someone in the hallway one evening. The hotel has internet in the room, but you have to use an ethernet cable to connect. This was very annoying because the Melbourne Novotel had free wireless in the room, and was one of the major reasons we booked the Novotel in Cairns. They had free internet in the lobby but when my wife tried to connect one morning, it wasn't working, and the front desk person was rude and told my wife that it was fine, it must be something wrong with her tablet. The hotel has four buildings, two are attached to the lobby, two are not. We were attached to the hotel, so that was nice. There is a coin laundry across the street, which was very helpful to us. The marina was a 10 min walk. On the way to the marina is the largest public swimming pool that I have ever seen. We ate at a place call Tha Fish on the way to the Reef Terminal, and it was very good, I will be posting a review on it. We also did a SunLovers Cruise to the Great Barrier Reef, which was one of the best tours we have ever been on.

Very good location. No wireless for room which is a minus, you will see many people hang around in lobby for free wifi as a result. Thousands of bat on nearby trees and watch out for bat droppings if decided to park car nearby. Got some unpleasant smell of bat droppings outside.

The hotel was nice and the pool area was excellent! Pool has a swim-up bar, but it (the bar) closed a bit early (probably a good thing since the drinks are pricy). Staff was helpful pointing us to some good restaurants. Nice views of the local bats too!

great location and easy to walk to all parts of Cairns. Room smelled a little musty and shower was a bit small. Otherwise room was very comfortable and staff was friendly.

The hotel is about ten meters from trees full of bats. These are large bats with wingspans of almost a meter. There are hundreds of these bats and they are very noisy, especially when returning to the trees, right by the hotel, early in the morning before sunrise.

This hotel was ok. Not bad but did nothing special. It had a close location to the main strip of Cairns. There were fox-bats (not joking) nesting in the trees around the hotel which made a lot of mess even on the property and noisy right out our 4th floor room. Free internet was a plus (20 min sessions) The in hotel restaurant was way overpriced. Pool was good but with limited spots to relax around. Some might enjoy the swim up bar. Overall did some good things and some bad. Nothing great stood out for me though.

The staff people were very friendly and kind. The room was clean, except for small insects, but given the location, that was not a surprise. Also the soundproof is not the best but when we were there, there was no one making noises at night. The hotel pool was nice too. The Esplanade is only a couple of blocks away, so no problem getting to restaurants, shopping areas and the lagoon.

Clean and neat room, poolside bar was excellent, views good too. Free internet in lobby is nice too. I would definitely stay there again!

The Novotel may not be "stunning" resort, as described in the ad, but it is a very comfortable, clean and pleasant place to hang out with a laid back atmosphere and a very friendly staff. It is only a couple of blocks away from the noisy Cairns esplanade and port area. While staying at the Novotel, you can enjoy the action, then retire and enjoy some quiet time by the large pool and lush inner garden. A rarety in Australia, The Novotel Cairns provides free Internet access at several Apple computers in the common areas. And Wifi access is free where it reaches (lobby, terrasse, pool area). Novotel Cairn's 3 nights for the price of two may be the best deal in town. They have also a very nice and varied breakfast buffet, attractively priced if you sign up when you check in.

Great pool area, very friendly staff and wonderful continental breakfast. Would definitely stay there again!
