The location is great. Just about a 10 minute walk from the Esplanade and about the same from the central pier where most tours leave from. Across from the hotel you will find a mall that has a pharmacy, coffee shops, grocery store etc. Do note that there is a bar about a block away which attracts some rift raft people, I avoided walking by at night as people were visibly intoxicated in its vicinity all times of day and night. The room was a good size and had a kitchenette but no stove which was a bit surprising. I slept comfortably in the bed. The shower leaked water all over the floor each time I took a shower. I was surprised that there wasn't daily cleaning. The room had a nice balcony which I enjoyed. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The apartment was of a very good size with a well equipped kitchen, bathroom with washing machine and tumble dryer, very comfortable bed and very spacious balcony. Very central to all the shops, the sea front and lot's of restaurants nearby. Plenty of car parking space in garage in the same building and easy accessable. We liked our stay very much for excursions to the Barrier Reef and Kuranda National Park.
Absolutely terrible stay. If I could, I would negate the charge with my credit card company to get a refund as I don't feel I slept well or comfortably, or received anything that I would have expected from a stay with a hotel. We stayed at hotels in other locations and even a couple AirBNB listings in the more remote areas, not to mention the hotel stays we have had over the course of our travels, and this would honestly be the absolute worst to date seeing as basic amenities like wifi or courteous and empathetic staff/policies when the wifi failed and left us stranded (or costing us money due to the wifi failing) and needing to head to the airport couldn't even be provided. The night of check-in, we arrived around 8:30p.m. I didn't realize that some hotel locations do not have staff around the clock as we do in the States - or what we had seen at other locations throughout our time in Australia. The awkward manner of checking in via a voice through a speaker was already unbearable, but then adding the fact that the speaker is absolutely terrible and cuts out every other word - so we and the staff had to repeat ourselves half a dozen times for each question/piece of information was just agony after a long day of flying. Not to mention, risking someone take the wrong envelope as well as not being available for the customer is absurd to me when spending so much money on a room, and service is expected. Additionally, upon arrival to our room (902), the shower was questionable, and there was a thick layer of dust/lint/film around the edges of the room and looked as though someone hadn't cleaned this room well in MONTHS. Further, upon arriving, we wanted a wake up call and some new towels as they were questionable too, but low and behold - no phone! We visited the desk the next morning before our boarding time (7:30), but of course, still no staff! We returned after our full-day expedition after what seemed to be close as again - no staff! 2 full nights, no phone, and no staff to help with any of our concerns including moving to a more cleanly room. The building's exterior gave the appearance of an abandoned building, the hallway outside of our room smelled of cat urine and the area was questionable as we witnessed questionable people near the hotel entrance and made us feel quite uncomfortable. The room is heavily outdated and bare to say the least. I was very disappointed from every facet with our first stay with a Best Western, especially spending the money we did on our stay and it being our wedding anniversary. I would not recommend anyone stay at this location unless everything was fully booked in the area - not to mention it is not even near any of the big or main attractions. Other locations offer complimentary meals or at the very least BBQ areas where to cook and eat meals, as well as some free amenities - none of which were offered here. Finally, come check-out - the internet was down as was the phone! Not only for us, but for the staff too! So we finally were able to have the staff provide us a phone, only to not use it when we most needed it! We had someone in the area who was going to take us to the airport that day, and we were just to call while packing so they could be there in about 20 minutes. NOW, we had no way of contacting them! We spoke with the front desk, who the older woman behind the desk seemed more concerned with the laundry than with actually helping resolve the inconvenience, so the younger woman offered to call us a taxi. That's helpful, however, now we had to pay $22 for a cab ride, INSTEAD of a free ride and for something that is a basic amenity that failed and is out of our control. I pled and argued that the cost should be covered by the hotel given the terrible room, experience, and now their faulty internet, and was practically ignored as they repeated the option of calling us a cab or figuring it out on our own. Anyone who travels or is in the hospitality business should know how expensive it is to use data or place calls while in another country, and having the indifferent or negligent attitude is not only rude or off-putting, but the complete opposite of what we expect when paying to stay in a hotel instead of with at an AirBNB listing!
Our flight was cancelled at the last minute so we opted to fly home the following day and the airline paid for our accommodation for the night. This Best Western was very central and across from a shopping centre which was very handy to fill in our afternoon. We had a one bedroom apartment which was quite clean if a little tired. Good views from spacious balcony. A couple of negatives there weren't enough bath towels and only two chairs on the balcony.
Overall the cleanliness was great, the views were spectacular however i could hear the person in the room beside me sniffing and eating with cutlery noises etc. So no real privacy sound wise. My tv was broken but a call to reception brought me a new tv. I went to use the pool and spa on the top floor and the spa was cold - i was advised it was broken and that they had no intention of getting it fixed anytime soon. I decided against having a swim in the pool because the pool and lounge chairs were all under video surveillance by the hotel and also every plane leaving and arriving at the airport was low-flying directly above the hotel. I felt it would have been much nicer for my privacy not being filmed in my bathing costume!
We had a really light, clean, enough modern room at the higher floor as we asked! Really good value for money. Its a bit far from the Esplanade (like 12 min walk) - but for younger people it makes no problem. I enjoyed staying there.
I have previously been to this hotel about just over a year ago and I can't say I had a bad experience. From the moment I walked through the doors till the moment I left it was great, room clean, staff lovely, level 11 was fantastic. Since my great experience previously with this hotel I thought "yes! Cairns trip, def booking best western". ah ah, I was 110% wrong to think it would be like it was before. My second experience was horrible...... I walked through the front door and a few rowdy individuals had just checked in. I than convince myself that it will be fine. I continued to approach the front reception. As I went to the counter to check in I spoke to a lovely gentleman who started to check me in, however next to him were two other men playing on their mobiles and looked very scruffy. It was quite awkward and unprofessional. I was then given a smokers room that smelt so strong of cigarettes. I do not smoke so I tried to have my room changed, however I could not so I was forced to pay that night and went to another hotel. I was put on level 6 this time so if you do want to stay here, maybe get a room from level 10 up. The room was clean but smelt so bad. I was so put off I couldn't stay the night.
great place to stay.. Restaurant next door which serves early breakfasts. Right opposite a large shopping centre and within easy walking distance of other restaurants and the night markets. Short distance to the cruise terminal and there is baggage storage at no extra cost.
Located conveniently opposite both Cairns Central shopping centre and Cairns Railway Station, Best Western Plus Central Apartments provides modern, and well-maintained accommodation. Our one-bedroom apartment was self-contained, with modern kitchen equipment for someone wanting the convenience of self-catering. The apartment offered a large, shuttered balcony with an outlook southwards over the city and of the coastal range. And surprise...rusted roofs didn't fit into the vista. The bed was very comfortable; large lounge chairs also shared the quality and comfort. As a 'downer', reception desk is manned only 'til around 7:00pm, and any need for assistance is diverted to a call centre. This didn't really inconvenience us. We had a comfortable over-night stay.
We had a one bedroom room which was very comfortable and had plenty of room. I would have liked more room to store clothing that doesn't hang. The carpet on the floors needed replacing and were quite grubby. The floors in the bathroom also needed a good clean. Good position.
