We were all looking forward to reacquainting ourselves with our longstanding friends of 38 years, his wife and son on their return visit back to the UK following their emigration to New Zealand 7 yers ago so, we spent a single night at the Cock Hotel in Stony Stratford where there were two rooms booked to accommodate two couples for the night of August 18th 2017. All started well, with 7 of us enjoying the bar and its various extensive ranges of drinks in the hotel where they had some very good albeit expensive Real Ale Beers on offer. We spent around 2 hours drinking and chatting in a relaxed atmosphere until we parted to get ready for our evening meal in what turned out to be an excellent restaurant called Cameron's Kitchen which was just a few yards down the High Street in O’Dell’s Yard. After the meal we decided to all (9 people) go back to the Cock Hotel to finish of a great evening with a final drink before saying our goodbyes. Sadly and very disappointingly when we got to the bar in the hotel it was just 5 minutes past 11.00pm and we were told the bar was shut. We explained that we were resident guests of the hotel but this cut no ice although the bar staff did suggest that she could talk to the 'manager' to see if she could serve us but unfortunately this was not on her urgent list and after a few minutes she was asked if she was indeed going to ask the manager to which she replied, "if you want me to?" This was 2-3 minutes after our first request for service at the bar. She returned and said, "The manager said NO!" I pointed again that we were residents but alas no change in their decision so we departed and went for our final drink at The Bull Hotel next door where although it was packed and rather boisterous we at least managed to reflect on our longstanding friendship prior to departing. The bottom line is in this day and age, why is an hotel run with such ridiculous rules. As for the rooms they are comfortable without being in the slightest bit luxurious a bit old fashioned whereas the bathroom was in very poor condition with mould around the bath, a very heavily stained shower curtain, the shower head was dirty, the tile grouting was full of mildew and as for the toilet that was two steps up on a pedestal really making it a throne! Breakfast was really good served in a timely manner, hot and a full plate on the English. There was a selection of cereals, juices and cakes making it a worthwhile experience. One final thing we booked directly with the hotel for £60 for a double room including breakfast whereas our friends paid more than that booking through Booking.com which today offered Friday 2nd September 2017 at a discounted £99.00, a lesson perhaps that it's not always cheaper to book online.

Both the hotel and the town it's in are full of character. The rooms are interestingly but comfortable. The staff are friendly and the breakfast is good quality. It has a nice bar with a good outdoor area for when it's sunny and offers good food. The area is quiet but has a good selection of eateries. Well worth a visit.

We stayed in two rooms at the Cock Hotel for a family event Check in No problems, but there was a wedding on so very busy Rooms 24 & 25 Very dated, smelled of damp. Paint very scuffed, Lots of cobwebs in corners. Tea and coffee facilities, but a bottle of water would have been nice. Bathroom very dated, lots of mould and sink didn't drain properly. Breakfast Disaster..... When we arrived there were no cleat tables, all had dirty pots on, so had to ask Hostess to set a table up. Eventually sat down and had to ask for orange juice as it had run out, then had to ask for glasses, then had to ask for breakfast bowls. No pastries left and not refilled. Ordered a full english, which was low quality, and had to ask again for Tea as it had been forgotten.

. Was showing colleagues around area. Being a tourist in own town, called in for lunch. As have had good lunches here in the past. Not disappointed.Quiet and relaxed environment. Good choice of food at reasonable prices. Visitors also enjoyed meal.

the prawn cocktail got a thumbs down from the two members of my party who tried it. Apparently really rubbery prawns. My fish and chips was great though - batter on fish was perfect. Wee kids pizza went down well with the wee kid.

Historic old inn, ideal for us meeting friend in town but... The welcome was good, the staff attentive and the bed and towels clean and comfortable. But the carpet was dirty, the walls filthy, cracked plaster, mould on the bathroom wall, water leaking on the floor by the loo and cobwebs. We didn't eat here in the evening just had a very average drink in the bar. At breakfast the table was sticky, the spoon had to be clicked off the surface and none of the crockery or cutlery shone, all looked tired and a bit greasy. Not a great breakfast, but OK, but they did cook my wife;s bacon how she wanted on request which gives them a star more on this review than I was going to give. A lick of paint, new carpets and a once over of general care would transform this hotel.

Very central and welcoming staff but the rooms we had were quite run down and the cooked breakfast was poor. Ask for a quiet room if you book and have the continental breakfast option. Overall The Cock is worth a visit.

We didn't stay here but hosted a party. Everything was very good, room, facilities, food, and all were very helpful for a successful party. Children were welcome. Building is old but then it is an historic old coaching inn in an old part of town.

I was in Stoney For a colleagues leaving do and stayed at the Cock. Room was pricy for such a really outdated bathroom. At 07:45 on a Saturday morning no hot water, not a great start to your day! Breakfast was okay and has a nice bar!

For years the cock has been an 'ok' place to meet up then go off somewhere else. Something missing? Well you still have the same faces, but there is something different, After not being there for about six months the place is buzzing, staff were attentive, apart from one I think her name was Lauren or Lucy, who quite clearly was at the end of her shift, but my family and I had a great time and the food was fabulous! We will be back, whatever or who ever the managment are keep going it's working!
