The Plaza Motel2.0 out of 5.0

I was visiting Bryan over the course of a weekend in July 2017 with a friend of mine. Normally I prefer chain hotels, but Bryan is a small-enough town where chain lodging is nonexistent. Based on the TripAdvisor reviews I had read about the Plaza Motel, I decided to give it a try. I didn't have very high expectations, but it actually worked out okay! When I first contacted the motel to make my reservation, the woman over the phone was very friendly and gave me a good rate for the room. She told me over the phone that I'd be in Room 4, which normally I don't ever hear hotel staff tell me over the phone what room I'd be in. I thought that was kinda cool. The only problem with the lobby is that it kinda smelled like smoke. I didn't want to be there any longer than necessary. The nice woman who checked me in was, I believe, the same person who had taken my reservation over the phone a couple weeks beforehand. (She introduced me as Ros.) Ros was very friendly, welcoming, and had a good sense of humor. There was a bit of a snafu because, when I paid with cash and looked at my receipt, I noticed that I was being put in a room with a single queen. I had reserved a room with two queens because I can't really share a bed with my friend with whom I was traveling. So Ros ended up moving us to Room 19, which is in a separate building in the back. No biggie. A bit of an odd setup... you have to basically leave the property and get on the road and take a different driveway to access the separate building in the back. We walked into Room 19 and were rather impressed with the initial look of it. The room was sufficiently clean and actually had a queen and two bunk beds. Unfortunately the bunk beds were not in the best condition, and I didn't sleep well that night. But the room basically had what we needed. It was sufficient for a night. Some of the reviews of this place are not great, but some are fine. Our experience at this property was fine. It was a pretty basic place... could have been better but certainly could have been worse. It was better than I had expected it to be.
From the small lobby that smelled like an ashtray to the maintenance man that came to our room bare footed we were appalled at how much this motel changed. We requested a refund because it was so bad.
Cute hotel, sixties vibe. Near the town center. Had a reservation here via booking.com. Arrived after a grueling nine hours on the road to be told that booking.com had screwed up and they had no reservation for me. Happened to a few other people too. Recommend you stay off 80 at the cluster of hotels there if you want an experience that doesn't leave you feeling like you've been taken for a ride. Also, FYI, it's the type of place where people stay for long periods of time if they've been kicked out of their apartments or whatever. Got the impression they pick and choose who they want when they want and might dump your one night reservation in favor of someone staying longer.
Ok. Stayed here due to our small dog. Staff was very friendly. Allowed early check in. Shower was awesome. Bed and room look tired and old. Slight odor in room but a bottle of Fabreeze helped. Heater and A/C worked very well.
This was a great family owned motel we stayed at over an extended weekend. The room was large and very clean, and the hotel is in a good location (for such a small town) We'll definitely stay here again if there are no guest rooms with family.
This place is absolutely insane..Prepaid for my hotel drove 3 1/2 hours arrived at 2:00 am and the office was CLOSED!! Huge open sign in the window but dark inside .phone rang to a fax machine and NOONE answered the bell as website says to ring but then again website says 24 hour office what a joke had to drive an addition 30 mins for another motel open so tired could barely drive straight..DON'T GO HERE you will thank me later
This motel is absolut great, clean, very nice owner and close to all what you need. In the room is a microwave, dryer, coffee machine and so much more... I stay there for 1 month and became a monthly rate. Make a stop here and enjoy this famos motel.
This is the second time we have stayed here and we were not disappointed! The room was a good size, very clean, such a reasonable price, and one of the most peaceful nights at a motel! I really dont know what else you could ask for. It has a microwave, refrigerator, 2 queen beds, free WIFI, great TV channels, and a continental breakfast! Granted, the continental breakfast consisted of fruit, granola bars, and pre packaged items...but it is a continental breakfast. I really dont understand some of the negative reviews but then some people are never satisfied no matter. It is our motel of choice in that area!
My brother and I booked a double queen room here. It was spacious, clean and had some nice touches that I wasn't expecting from a motel in this price range. There was cable TV, a coffee maker and a small fridge. Not bad for $68 bucks. Most of the interesting things in the town are only about a mile or so from the motel, which was nice. There were some downsides, though. The room was quite dated and some of the shower tiles looked like they were just about ready to fall out if you were to accidentally bump them. Also, the continental breakfast looked more like some Walmart leftovers. With the exception of a single bagel and a few muffins, most of the serving plates were empty. Again, this is a very inexpensive motel so I'm not complaining too much. My brother and I grabbed a few granola bars and headed out. Overall, we had a good experience but the continental breakfast was more of a modest snack than an actual breakfast.
We were looking for a nice place just off 80/90 to stay overnight on a long road trip. This was a very bad choice from several perspectives. First, with current construction, it's about a half hour off the road. (There's a direct road, but your GPS will take you by local routes, which late at night is not a good drive.) Second, this is a very tired property...nice staff, large rooms, but loud A/C, worn bedspread, not very good light-proofing. Not quite creepy, but no where near 4.5 stars. I gave 2 to bring the review down; it's between a 2-3.
