Hotel Berlaymont Brussels EU4.0 out of 5.0

I stayed at the hotel in two occasions, in early November 2017 and mid-October 2016. Rooms are spacious, modern, clean and well-equipped as one would expect in a good 4 star hotel. I was pleased to see that water and sift drinks were included in the price. Nespresso coffee machine in the room is definitively a plus! Check out can be done online using the email they kindly send on the checkout morning. Loved it and highly recommend it.
As an occasional visitor of this upper-mid-range hotel during the past three years, I have to take note of the improvements after the recent (not-yet-quite-finished) revamp and rewrite my previous rather negative review. The rooms have now gotten clean, light-tight new curtains, glass tops on the surfaces of the wooden furniture, clean and state-of-the-art coffee machines/kettles, an ironing facility and excellent new fittings. The design of the public spaces has also been significantly improved. Very friendly staff, clean, quiet, with good TV-sets (although maybe too few German speaking channels) and good free WiFi. Gym is there but still needs to be revamped, not in good state (esp the old bike on which you, since 3 years, notoriously slip down from the saddle). Spa was closed for renovation. The remaining minuses are: too little light in the darkly furnitured rooms, missing sitting opportunities in the lobby (2 chairs only!), the toiletries in bottles on which you can barely read what is inside and such mix up body balm and soap all the time, and the missing complimentary water bottle (local water drinkable but with much chlorine esp. in summer) that used to be there before. I dont take breakfast so I cannot comment on that. Altogether a real improvement, well done and recommendable!
The hotel is conveniently located for the quartier européen. New owner, but not newly renovated. We detected some small upgrades but the overall feeeling was the same when I first visited the hotel a few owners ago- only with more than a decade of wear and tear. The rooms are very dark and without adequate lighting. The bathroom had only a minumum of bathroom products in dispensers. The breakfast was OK and the staff friendly.
Hotel has a good location if you need to be around Schuman - European Commission, but a bit off if you want to be in the centre of the city for nice restaurants and shopping. Rooms are reasonably nice
Deceiving restoration. Having been there for the last 10 years I was expecting a nice restoration of the hotel with the new owner. Rooms are still stinking (need to sleep with open window). Old furniture still there just (badly) repainted. New bed (at last) but harsh bed sheets, too narrow so that they do not cover enough the mattress. LIft still dirty. SPA and cofffee shop still closed. New price policy, with a 5% increase, deceiving also for old customers. NOT recommended (at this moment).
In a quieter area of Brussels. Recently and well renovated. We had a third floor front room that was clean, well decorated and equipped with the usuals you'd expect in a hotel (coffee machine, some free beverages in fridge, free internet, TV with many languages). Minimal night time traffic. Very reasonable price! Excellent hot and cold breakfasts selections. Close to the Metro. Friendly staff.
A really nice hotel, big rooms and located very close to the tube station. The spa was nice and clean and had everything you could need. The breakfast was fantastic, it had a very good selection of different food. I recommend the pancakes!
The hotel is good located for business meating in EU institutions. Despite there was some ongoing renovation work at the hotel, it wasn't bothering me. The room was clean and with all needed facilities. There was also free water bottle in the mini bar. The staff in the hotel was also very nice and helpful. Warning: Do not take room with the view on the main streat, it could be noisy.
Situated next door to the European Parliament buildings the hotel is certainly central, lots of small bars and restaurants are situated in the surrounding streets so the hotel offers a good location for both business and general visiting. Rooms are large clean, good working desk, even in early September they can be warm so use the A/C before you go out for the evening. Staff are helpful, overall an easy stay.
Note: We stayed here during the last month before restorations in Summer 2017 Location: Right next to the European Commission and Schuman metro station. Some restaurants around (Maxburg was good) Not many supermarkets. Saw one, which closes at 8 pm Staff: Friendly and helpful. Room: Needs new furniture. Looks like my stuff I had in the 80's. Opened the window for the first time, just to see a tunnel roof with old socks on it. I guess the view could be good if you have an room not on level 1. No door or curtain in the shower, just a piece of glass covering the first part, so you can imagine what the floor looked like after every shower Overall: We felt this place was a decent hotel. The free bottled water each day is a nice gesture.
