Floris Hotel Bruges3.0 out of 5.0

We wanted a family room at a reasonable rate and the Floris was ideal. It was only a 10 minute walk from the centre and had a pool for the children. Breakfast was included. There is limited hotel parking, but there is a public car park within a 5 minute walk.
We booked for 4 nights over the Christmas break. Our first room had a broken shower head, but we were quickly moved once we informed reception. The tv in the room has English channels which is a bonus and much appreciated. The pool is a lovely size and although we didn’t use it the small gym had modern equipment. There is a play area for children and I saw one child playing computer games so suits all ages. Breakfast is adequate and plentiful but a busy area. The hotel is close to Bruges and I guess about 5 minutes to the beginning of town. The staff here are friendly and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bruges. One small niggle is the heating you control by valves on the radiAtors and this made it difficult to control. We found having the towel rail on in the bathroom was plenty. You will never be cold here that’s for sure.
We chose this hotel for a visit to Bruges and couldn't be more pleased.. Yes, it's a bit dated, yes, there's only a basic breakfast, and yes, no tea of coffee making facilities in the room, but, we went down to reception and they were more than happy to supply us with a kettle (being frequent travellers we always carry supplies) We had more than enough to eat at breakfast, and we had a dip in the pool, which soothed our aching legs, after a walk around town, what more could you want from a mini-break hotel. Informative, friendly staff and a car parking space for our little sports car means we will definitely be back..
The website of this hotel is very deceiving. It shows pictures of a small part of the hotel that’s been refurbished. The rest is very run down. Not a 3 star standard although the charge 3 star prices.
We had a lovely time as a family with dog in this hotel. It’s a short walk from central Bruges. Dog and Toddler both made very welcome throughout the hotel and there’s a great play area for the kids. Breakfast also really good, and there are nice lounge areas to enjoy a coffee / evening drink. The rooms let it down a bit though - tired decor and bathroom very basic. But this is reflected in the price, so if you’re looking for affordability with convenience, it’s a good choice.
Arrived on Friday for a weekend break and to visit the Christmas Markets. First impressions when we entered the the hotel was that it was somewhat dated compared to similar hotels back in the U.K. No problems at at all with the staff on reception who were both welcoming and helpful, our room however was what I would describe as being very basic and again very dated . Dark patches on the ceiling a consumer box with the cover broken off exposing the fuses and trip switches as well as black mould on the mastic in the shower did nothing to improve our opinion. With only a basic breakfast and no hot drink facilities in our room it really was poor value for money.
The location of the hotel is close to the two main streets that lead to the central square. The lobby is beautiful and the reception staff are very helpful. The corridors could do with a redecorate but a OK. We were upgraded to a larger room which was perfectly adequate for s sightseeing trip. Also all well heated as it was blowing a blizzard outside. Only slight downside was the parking. They do have parking, but only about 6 spaces and you need to pre-book. However there is a multistory carpark just across the road which is 9 euros/day which is fine - again just not so good in the snow/sleet. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.
Stayed here for 3 nights monday to thursday. The hotel reception area is very wecoming and comfortable. The lady on reception was efficient but clearly no longer appreciated the same old questions from guests. There was a degree of inconsistency, with the male receptionist giving free filtered water. He also served hot drinks in mugs, whilst his female colleague said filtered water was only for staff and gave hot drinks in small glass beakers. I assume this again was all about her attitude to guests. The room we had was smaller than the single given to our daughter, and had a cramped tired bathroom and tiny wardrobe wedged near a shelf area. Some rooms had tea and coffee but not ours. The breakfast area was light and airy, with continental buffet plus bacon cut into tiny squares and scrambled egg. The hotel is located a 15 minute walk from the main square.
The hotel was reasonable. Room was quite nice but a bit tried. Shower head was loose, we asked to get it fixed but it didn't happen so we had to do it ourselves. Staff were helpful and gave very good advice about where to eat. Good access into the town centre. They did seem to be rennovating so may be better now.
It looks like the front of house has had money well spent on it, but sadly our room didn't come anywhere close to the same standard. Lovely reception/bar/lounge area, but as you go to the rooms, the corridors are tiled and noisy, Our room was right near the front and we heard every sound coming from the bar area, and constantly woken by people walking back to their rooms. A simple recarpeting of the corridor would have solved this. The room was quite worn with a few things simply not working or broken, the underfloor heating was constantly on and the windows are sealed shut, so it made for an uncomfortable stay overall. The staff were OK but I think very used to hearing complaints, so didn't seem too bothered. Wouldn't stay again, there are better places available for less money. A shame, as it looks fabulous from the street.
