Myself and my partner have just returned from a weeks stay at the Barcelo Royal Beach,First time we have stayed there and it will not be our last, It had everything we could of wanted, Great food, Great service, A big thank you to the young waitresses in Dunns bar, They were always so attentive, we were all inclusive and never had a problem getting any drinks or snacks. The pools were amazing and a must in the heat. All the staff were friendly and helpful and work very hard to make sure everyone is happy, We paid extra for a pool room view which we loved, There was not a lot of entertainment in the evenings although a few minutes walk from the hotel and you will find all sorts of entertainment. We are looking to go back next year.
My wife and myself have been to Sunny Beach 3 times now and the most recently was in June 2017 to the Royal Beach Barcelo. We booked this as it was a 5* for a little luxury but how wrong was we. On arrival you get met by a Porter who takes your bags but after that the customer service experience ends. We were taken to a room where we requested a pool view and yes we got one we could see at least 10 feet of it, the rest of the view was a rusty fire escape. The wardrobe would not open fully and every time you opened the door it scraped against the front door. The safe was positioned that you could only use it if you got on your hands and knees or you were a limbo dancer. The pillows were lumpy and drab, I have thrown better away at home. The cooker vent didn't look safe as it was not fitted correctly. There was dust in the room specifically on the lamp and the bedside table. My wife wrote her name in it the second week of the stay and we get a maid service daily. The grouting behind the taps in the bathroom could have been done by a 2 year old. We asked for towels on arrival as there were none and it took 3 days to get them. On arrival there was tomato ketchup on the balcony but thankfully the rain on the 4th day washed it off as the maid didn't. We noticed at breakfast if you were all inclusive you were well catered for but if you were bed and breakfast it was fend for yourself time. I have attached photos for your perusal but I would say this is a 3* at best. We have stopped in the Yunona before which is opposite this hotel and the service was fantastic.
We stayed here from 17th to 24th June 2017. It was only a 30 minute transfer from Borgas airport to the hotel. The hotel itself is very modern, well maintained, clean and tidy. We had a fifth floor room with a balcony and a pool and sea view. The room was very modern, clean and well equipped, including a large smart TV. The bathroom was fabulous with a bath and separate shower. The staff were friendly and helpful, I particularly like the barman in sports bar who was a real character and provided very good service. The food was great with plenty of variety. I really liked the pizza's, there was also a carver, fish salad, cheeses, various dishes, good selection of desserts including ice-cream. We ate at the Ala Carte restaurant, which was outside near the pools. One visit is included with the all inclusive. I would recommend the rib eye steak. All in all a great hotel situated a short walk from the sandy beach. It wasn't too busy or noisy, we were always able to get a sun bed. Drinks included in the all inclusive are marked in the drinks menu with AI which consist of local spirits, beers, wine, cocktails and soft drinks. Like the Pina Colada's and the gin and tonic but there are plenty of drinks to choose from and the measures are very generous.
I don't understand people going on holiday and spending it complaining about the weather and the sand... me and my family had another great holiday at Bulgaria in our favourite hotel! Thanks to all the staff for the excellent services, tasty food and room cleaning. Can't wait to return!
Location is spot-on . Some lovely little Café Bars all around the hotel . We were Self Catering, so they all received our custom . The Eagle was the best closest which had su per friendly ser vice , Tony is an absolute Gentleman. The Red Lion , contrary to reports is actually very good !. The food is spot-on, and the drink is about average price's , so nothing to worry about . The Jupiter is good , but understaffed at night . One night we got ushered in by the Doorman , just to be ignored by all the waiters . Needless to say, we went elsewhere. But we did have 2 very good lunches there . The KFC is spotless , but the portions are very small , & price wise , about the same as the U.K. The Red Lion & KFC , can both be reached thru keycarded gates from the Pool. I found service & drinks at the pool bar to be both perfect , but never used any of their other bars , as there are so many lovely bars on the beach , which are very cheap . The beach bars are nice , but nothing impressive in daytime, but at night , some of them are stunning , and not busy . The hotel itself has a lot of excellent security measures, like entry to your Block from the pool side or Premium Mall side is all accessed only via your room key ." Timesaver ....... You don't need to take the card out your wallet for it to work , just touch wallet/purse against the touch , and hey presto !. Shame I only discovered this with 4 days left of my holiday. Housekeeping is the only thing that this hotel is needing to urgently address! . We had our room "visited" most times we requested a "clean". Fresh towels were virtually always provided , oh and a bog roll , but nothing else. The bed's were never made up , and we never got a change of sheets until we requested it at reception. We assumed we would have got a change after at least our first week, but no !, day#8 , no !, day#9 , no ! By day #10 we needed a change .They were embarrassed, and it got sorted pronto . Reception are brilliant. Overall I would highly recommend this place . You can't hear a peep from any of the nightlife, which is within a few minutes walk, and with your patio doors closed , not a sound from the pool either . Peacefully and relaxing. The Air con in the apartment is really good , with separate outlets for the bedroom & the lounge. The fridge is super cold !. We were on the 4th Floor , and in an apartment with a big Living room. Never had to wait more than 15 seconds for a lift , as there are 2 side by side . There's a small shop between blocks E & F for bits & bob's like Water , Crisps , Beer etc , and I think the prices are similar to the bigger shops . Brilliant selection of Ice Creams , which don't get a chance to melt as it seconds to the lift.
Having just returned from a week at the Barcelo Royal Beach I will hopefully give a honest review. We picked this Hotel as we have stayed at several Barceló hotels. The Room-Very large overlooking the pool, bathroom had a large bath and separate shower. Plenty of hot water and large towels, Room had sofa and two twin beds, but housekeeping lets the room & hotel down, beds not made properly if at all, only on one day was our bedding pulled up other than that not touched. bedding not changed, supplies i.e. Loo Roll not replaced (my tip take your own), dirty glasses not removed from the room. Nice TV in room but very few English channels (I know you don’t come away to watch TV but sometimes nice to have on when you are getting ready for the evening) Food - I have to say that the food was very nice if a bit repetitive, could be a bit warmer but plenty of choice, lovely salads and the deserts although not too much choice were very nice and plenty of fresh fruit. What lets the restaurant down was the service it was diabolical, tables were not cleared, and if you sat at an empty table you had to wait ages and I mean ages for someone to bring cutlery and napkins, and as for a drink .... again you had to wait ages for a drink, but the wine was very palatable but we were never offered a refill (bearing in mind we were All Inclusive). I think the service suffers as the hotel is not fully AI on several occasions we were handed a bill for our drinks. We didn’t eat at the ala carte so can’t comment in that. More staff needed !!! The Pools – all looked fine plenty of sunbeds with toppers etc., wasn’t too keen on all the seagulls which were around the pool and liked swimming in them, on evening we counted 20 enjoying their evening swim, nor sure how healthy this is, but also don’t really know how the hotel can resolve. Entertainment team worked had to get people involved but seemed to struggle, music round pool not to loud. The Bars – The pool bar very miserable staff hard to get a drink only realised cocktails were available on the last day. The Sports Bar where the evening entertainment takes place was a bit like a dungeon with numerous TVs showing sport (obviously) not really comfortable to sit in, this needs to be much improved. The Lobby bar was ok and I would particularly like to mention Gabriella as she is such an asset to this hotel and worked so hard. Cocktails not available at this Bar (They should be) Late checks out are available on request only if available which is different to the answer I received when I asked the question before we left, I expect to pay for this and after almost begging we were allowed to keep our room until 7pm at a costs of 100 lev (approx. £45 which was what I expected to pay) we could have had the room until 11pm at cost of 180 lev, as we were not being picked up until midnight this was crucial to us. Please bear this in mind of you have a late departure. This could be a really good hotel but needs to concentrate on improving housekeeping standards and service levels. As for Sunny Beach its self it is what it is and people seem to love it we were indifferent and would probably not go back
Just had a week at the Barcelo Royal Beach - after reading some of the reviews before our holiday we were a little concerned, thankfully we had nothing to worry about and made our own minds up about the Hotel. Despite what we read about cleanliness, our room was serviced every day and clean towels provided every day, the beds were changed twice during our stay, even the balcony was swept. The food was good and never struggled finding something we liked, yes it was busy and sometimes you had to look for a table but the staff always assisted us, I would say, that at times, more staff are needed in the dining room, although we noticed on our last day that a new dining room has opened so this will really help. One little negative from us is the loungers round the pool, boy, are they uncomfortable - thicker mattresses would be appreciated. The entertainment team were all very friendly especially Ryan who was very helpful in lots of matters. Have to give a big mention to Sherif (from the Dining Room) If all your staff were as friendly and helpful as Sherif you would have an absolutely fantastic team on board.
First of all the entertainment team were amazing. Lovely people, did lots of games throughout the day for everybody and were enthusiastic and seemed to really love their job which is always nice. The restaurant and bar staff were a little incompetent, not cleaning tables in the restaurant meaning nowhere to sit and waitung around or clearing a dirty table yourself to sit and eat before the food went cold. Food were generally ok. Got food poisining on the last day after eating in the restaurant. The cleaners were horriffic. Worst part of the hotel. The room was never cleaned, the towels werent changed, the floor was so dirty it left your feet black, the mini fridge didnt work and as the double bed was 2 singles put together the gap between them both were covered in hairs and left over food etc. Also had 3 rings stolen from my hotel room and reported this so hotel staff and actually sat down with the manager and they just weren't interested. Was told they could not get staff and they dont take responsibilty for cleaners stealing things. Cocktails were really good, hotel was really big with 3 separate pools, entertainment every night was good and different every night and the location of the hotel itsself was good. Just a shame about the cleaners, the service and the people skills of some staff.
I'll start with the good points....Pools-Superb 3 outdoor pools that are clean and very quiet for those who like to relax. There's music in background but at a good volume. The smaller and indoor pools is mainly used by kids. Indoor pool is warm but could be warmer. Entertainment staff-Give it 100% but I feel sorry for them as it not a easy job but they do well. Live guards/towel man- very nice and make the effort. Reception staff-never needed them much but they seemed friendly. Security-located at front and back of hotel and they do a great job. We was self-catering for 10 days and the room was out of hotel and feels although you ain't part of it which I didn't mind. Apartment was modern and full of utensils but pretty dirty and you can hear most things although hotel was pretty quiet which helped. Poor points- Room was never cleaned well. No dusting or hoovering in 10 days and bed sheets changed once. Fresh towels most days. No plugs in kitchen or bathroom sinks. Tv only had Bulgarian channels all 42 of them. My 3 year old was dissatisfied to say the least. Bar staff at pool was the worst I've ever seen in 20 years abroad. Maybe I got them on an off day but not a smile or hi or even a cheers so I only used it once. Paid 5lev for a very poor poured terrible water beer. Hotel I found drinks very expensive considering they service was poor. Stayed in some 5 star hotels but this the worst by far. Never used it as a consequence. All in all a good holiday had. Would use hotel again but hope it improves. Kids club looked great but for ages 4+ Sunny beach is a great place but it's what u make it. Walk along strip during day and look through all the shops. Stop for a drink. Loads of bars. Favourite food place bar far was the 'Hawaii' and the steak house Juniper. Bar at side of hotel 'red lion' was my favourite bar as it was quiet and served a quality pint of Stella for 5lev. Food was good there also. Carnival at top of strip was great for kids. Sunny beach is full of rude Europeans so don't expect a thank you when you hold a door or let someone by. Enjoy
Very nice staff, especially ivaylo. Always there to help and make your stay as good as possible. Definitely comming back next year. Lots of stuff to do around the hotel, especially when you like to go out! 👌
