First the good stuff. Service is excellent. The staff is very knowledgable and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful and they have a good amount of food for hungry people ready to tour the city. Breakfast is served in the basement and was always well done. Location is great and close to charming shopping and restaurants (15m to almost anywhere you'd want to eat). Very good artisan gelato is just 50' away to the left. The concierge can easily point you to good to very good restaurants. ATMs are nearby just 5 min walk from the hotel. Many of the alleys and roads are cutoff from most motor traffic so walking is a pleasure. Now the minor bad stuff. Rooms are adequate but the layout is based on old building floor plans, so if stairs are a problem for you (those with bad legs), ask for a room close to the elevator. We had a room at the farthest end of the hotel and its a bit of a walk with a couple of stairs to navigate to get to our room. An elevator was just outside our room but this is basically a service elevator and does not lead to the reception or lounge. Getting to the hotel by taxi was doable but not easy as they need to drive through back alleys and streets (old city). If there is a festival downtown (one night during our stay), a cab may not be available unless you walk a distance from the hotel. Happy hour can be expensive. Its 10e for a drink and all you can eat buffet of tidbits. I can't drink alcohol due to meds but the 10e cost stands, so 10e for a soda is a bit ludicrous. On the other hand, 10e for a cocktail is better, though my friend's bloody mary was not the best. The tub/shower has a problem I've noted in many older conversion hotels in that the shower splash guard is not long enough to prevent water from splashing on the floor. The floor towel gets easily soaked closest to the splash wall. Just be careful and always put down the floor towel close to the splash wall. Drain to the shower was slow and in a 5 minute shower a minor puddle formed around our feet. Removing the drain plug slowed this process down but it still happened. Lastly, the beds are firm. Not unsleepable, just very firm. If you like soft beds, this is not for you. As noted, most of the bad stuff is very minor. Short term, they should rethink happy hour pricing. If you are looking for a centrally located quaint hotel close to a beautiful downtown and good food and like a firm bed, this is your hotel. I just had too many minor issues to give it 5 stars.
This was our second Hotel out of three on an eleven day trip to Italy, Our trip had not started particularly well due to lost luggage and flight delays. The Hotel was beautiful and our room was bliss. Breakfast was a real treat. The staff were excellent and helpful Special thanks must go to the Reception and Concierge Staff who spoke with the local Pharmacy and took me there to translate to help me solve a medical issue due to my specialist medication being in my lost luggage. This was excellent customer care. Overall we loved the Hotel and would stay again without hesitation
Very well located hotel close to the two towers and Piazza Maggiore. Clean and spacious room, with friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast included with the room, which had a fairly wide selection and was available until 11am. Stayed for three nights and would recommend for a similar stay in Bologna.
Really great location. Close to everything, but still very quiet. We walked from train station. Room was very nice. Hotel is immaculate. Breakfast was good with a good selection. Friendly and helpful staff. Great recommendation for dinner.
We were not planning on staying in Bologna, so this was a last minute booking. It was a wonderful surprise. The hotel is stunning, the rooms were beautiful and quiet, and the breakfast was delicious. We drove into the city and when we left the staff took our luggage to the parking garage and we had a nice surprise. Our car had been washed! Wished we could have stayed longer.
I could not have dreamed of a better place to stay. This Hotel is Italian-chic of the highest quality. If you love interiors, it truly is a joy! Service is super cute, breakfast was lovely, bed was dreamy-fabulous, bathroom was opulent marble-glam, location is perfect. I even downloaded a Pantone app to make a note of the wall colours! The place for me gets top marks!
This hotel is comfortable and welcoming and is ideally situated just 5 minutes walk from Piazza Maggiore, the Two Towers and the main pedestrian areas with lots of shops and restaurants. Even the railway station is not a difficult walk away. The staff are friendly and efficient and speak good English and are happy to help with taxis and maps and information. The lobby area has a lovely glass roof and is a quiet and comfortable area in which to sit and read or enjoy an aperitif or to watch a spectacular thunder and lightening storm. A superb buffet breakfast caters for all tastes, including those who need gluten free options. However, the larger gluten free packets of cereal had possibly been open for too long as the contents were a bit chewy. I know it would be more costly to provide more individual packs, but it would be greatly appreciated by those who have to eat it. it was a nice touch when the waiter remembered what we liked to drink with our breakfast. Our room was fresh and clean, although the bed was rather hard for our liking, but they did try to rectify things by providing a few more pillows. The bathroom was spacious and had a great deep bath with a shower. We would certainly recommend the Hotel Corona D'Oro.
The Hotel Corona d’Oro provides excellent accommodation right in the heart of the old town. The rooms are clean, comfortable and a good size, the food is first class and the staff friendly and efficient. I can whole-heartedly recommend the Corona d’Oro to anyone wishing to explore Bologna.
Lovely classic hotel smack bang in the centre of town . Booked here after following Rick Steins weekend breaks and what a great call it proved to be . It's location couldn't be better , decor is traditional but with mod cons . I doubt Rick stayed in our deluxe room as it was a little short on space but was fine for a long weekend had a great bed and was spotlessly clean . The bathroom was more generous in size , though no bath we had a fantastic walk in shower and both the hand held and power showers were easy to use . The staff made this place that bit special they were both friendly and helpful an ironing board was sent to our room within minutes of our request and they helped in both recommending and booking restaurants that all proved fantastic , they genuinely seemed to want to make sure we had a great time whilst in their city . Breakfast was also worth looking forward to . All in all we loved this place and hope to find an excuse to return one day .
I was very pleased with Hotel Corona d'Oro. It is a comfortable hotel, well situated in the city center, with a helpful staff and an excellent breakfast buffet. If I return to Bologna, this will be my first choice.
