We had wanted to visit Bologna for some years since several close friends recommended it, including our Italian language teacher, Alistair. We choose Corona d'Oro after research on internet and Rick Stein stayed during one of his programmes. We couldn't have made a better choice. Relaxed elegance in the heart of Bologna. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, the room was very comfortable and quiet and the 6 pm appetitive was so good!!! The air conditioning wasn't even phased by up to 40 oC temperature outside. Thoroughly recommended and would be an automatic choice if we visit Bologna again.

I booked this hotel prior to the Rick Stein TV programme so I am pleased he took my recommendation!! If arriving at Bologna Centrale railway station, the hotel is an easy 15 minute level walk through the shopping area and is located in the Historical Centre. All the hotel staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful and had a good knowledge of local attractions. The room as small but was sufficient for our 3 night stay especially as we weren't intending to stay inside much. The room was clean with a classical view out over a narrow traffic free street and views of a church and tower. The bedding was always crisp and clean and towels replaced daily. Although on a negative side I did find a used towel and pair of slippers beneath my bed - and they weren't ours! Breakfasts were included and there was a good selection of items to suit most tastes. There are many bars, cafes and restaurants nearby who all serve excellent local food. In most places you are served with small snacks with your drinks so you can easily miss a starter before your primi or secondi piatti all at very reasonable prices. I would thoroughly recommend Bologna and if its a classy hotel centrally located you want, then the Hotel Corona D'Oro will fit your requirements.

Stayed for only one night in a basic single room, which featured a compact though well-laid out square living space and large, well-appointed bathroom incorporating a spacious granite shower. Room was very quiet and had terrific air conditioning, which was welcome after a day out in the sweltering Italian summer. One neat feature is that the bathroom is heated separately so the temperature on the skin always felt just right. Wifi was free and fast. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the breakfast was good if not spectacular since only 4x hot entrees were available and, of these, 2x were steamed vegetables. Plenty of pastries and cold items though, so probably best to describe it as a full Continental spread with a few bonus Anglo-American staples thrown in. As others have described, the location is fantastic right in the middle of all the historical architecture and tourist sites, all within walking distance. Price was right too. Just a comment that the lobby photograph used on this site and the hotel's marketing material makes the property look grander than it is in real life. Expect to find a quaint boutique hotel when you arrive, not the Waldorf Astoria.

Had a 4 night stay in a single room in late May, 2017. A bad start. Very late check in, because they had a full hotel the night before they said. Tiny room with a single bed, but a nice and good bathroom. Old fashioned hotel. Cozy enough, but to expensive for its standard and quality. I paid roughly 240 Euro a night. I don`t agree when they call it a 4 star hotel. Nice staff in the reception and a very good breakfast for southern European standard. Location is fantastic, but the hotel is to expensive for its quality.

I only stayed one night but I have nothing to dislike. fast check-in, friendly staff and great breakfast. The room was as expected and all was fine. I just had an ordinary room but when you travel you need some essentials and here all are in place and nothing is missing.

If its good enough for Rick Stein its good enough for me, my room was appropriately decorated for the style of this classic hotel but if I had one gripe it would be the shower wasn't great, pleasant staff and great location.

If I could put 0 rating I would. My husband and I were travelling with our parents (4 people in total) from Australia and booked 2 double rooms at this hotel for a short 2 night stay. When we arrived we were taken to our rooms, my husband and I were happy with ours as its what was expected however the toilet hadn't been cleaned properly and stuck like urine. It wasn't until my husband and i went to our older parents room to visit them 15 minutes later that a huge issue became apparent. Our parents were in a single room with a single bed. We were in shock so went downstairs and spoke to the male receptionist in charge that day along with another male staff receptionist next to him. We explained the situation and he straight away took out a piece of paper in Italian and showed us that the two rooms said they were booked for single beds. I looked at him, then looked at the 3 other members of my family. I said why could you possibly think we want and ordered 2 single rooms with 4 people. He just kept pointing to this print out in Italian. I said that has to be wrong as my room is double (he then said he had "upgraded" one of our rooms). So then we showed him our booking confirmation that had 2 x rooms that clearly said "double room" for 2 people each room. He shrugged his shoulders and pointed back at his stupid Italian print out as if it was new information. My family were just simply dumbfounded as to how this extremely rude and unhelpful receptionist did not care and wasn't willing to help us at all. There were so many uncomfortable silences while he just looked at us like "oh well". Both males then said that they had apparently "emailed" us a few days after the booking to let us know of this and to see if we wanted to change. We never received the email so I asked them to show me the email sent. After some time, he showed us an email that was sent in Italian and to an email address we did recognise. I said we are from Australia, not Italy it says our nationality on the booking why wouldn't you write in english? Again they shrugged their shoulders like "too bad". We said this room needs to be changed immediately it's for 1 person it makes no sense how are you people not understanding this?? He said we are fully booked but only have the master suite available but it will cost you another $300 euro on top per night. He was "happy" to move our parents but only if they paid... I made it very clear to him we are not interested in a sparkly expensive suite just a dam suite with a DOUBLE BED FOR 2 PEOPLE like what we ordered. None of this making sense to us we obviously said that there should be no cost to us for this suite being the only one available to move. He said he can't do anything about it and that he didn't have the approval to put them in (this only empty room in the hotel) for 2 short nights as only his manager could. So we asked to speak to the manager. Not only did he not let us speak to the manager but he refused to give us the managers phone number to call so we could sort this out. He was the most rude, unhelpful and passive aggressive person I have ever met while staying in a hotel. It ended up getting pretty heated while my husband and his poor older father got so upset trying to get this rude male staff receptionist to try help us and he just wouldn't budge. None of us have ever experience such bad service. We had to walk away and leave and decided to not let these awful service staff ruin our holiday we have planned while in this beautiful city of Bologna. We ignored them the rest of our stay and our poor parents slept on a single bed. We did offer them our room but they refused of course because they are too kind. It wasn't until 7:30pm the 2nd night I received a phone call asking if our parents wanted to move rooms because one had become available. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. And why has this room JUST become available at 7:30pm the night before we check out? Don't people check out at 12pm? It was so clear it was an empty offer just to look like they have offered something because of course when you piss people off this much they are going to want to get on trip advisor and take time out of their busy lives and write a review. What kills me is how can this hotel possibly think it's acceptable to promote a double room for 2 people (even on a special rate) when it's a god dam single bed with 1 pillow, glassware for 1 person and everything set up for 1 person. It makes no sense. So not only did they do nothing to help us for this short 2 night stay but we received nothing else, the behaviour from those men will forever imprint in our minds of our stay in Bologna. I can see by reading the other reviews that it's not the first time they have received bad service and rude staff complaints. I obviously therefore do not recommend staying at this hotel.

This is not my first time and not my last time in this jewel hotel. Staff is great- very, very friendly. Location is perfect- right near everything. Breakfast (and the breakfast staff)- top notch- there is virtually no room for improvement there. Room had electric kettle- coffee, tea, milk. Bathroom very spacious. Room very nicely decorated. TV channels- might need to think about adding more English ones. Very reasonable rates.

Great location and the service was top notch. They allowed a early check-in and the service staff helped out with great restaurant recommendations. The hotel is right in the heart of a bustling city street with easy access to the city's attractions and best restaurants. I spent a night in this lovely hotel and would recommend it again and again!

As previously noted by others extremely well located. Front desk staff very helpful. Amazing breakfast with prosecco! Not the newest property but very clean. I'd stay again. Bologna is a great place to visit.. . . ..........:
