Great hotel for exploring historic Bologna . Situated a short distance from Piazza Maggiore this hotel ticked all the boxes. The reception staff from the moment we checked in were very friendly and welcoming and were willing to answer any questions and suggest restaurants nearby. We stayed in room 204 which was air conditioned ,very welcome as it was 34 degrees outside also very quiet at night even though it was above the road outside and we slept well each night in a very comfortable bed . The room was spotless and sheets and towels changed every day . Special thanks to the lovely lady who kept our room immaculate. Some really nice touches here with a good night mat and slippers left out every night along with sweets put on the bed with a daily up date on events nearby. Breakfast choice was extensive and full of fresh fruit, pastries , and cooked breakfast if you wanted it. Great cappuccino coffee in the morning and thanks for the staff here that provided us with a great start to each day. Nice areas down near the foyer to relax and read . We had a very chilled 6 days here and would not hesitate to go back in the future.
We stayed three nights in this lovely hotel. Had read previous reviews and we were worried about noise. I can confirm that room 104 on first floor was very quiet. We kept windows closed and room was comfortable with or without air con . A lovely large plain room very tastefully decorated with all the facilities you would expect ... fluffy towels dressing gowns slippers good toiletries and bathroom scales!! Spotlessly clean and well serviced daily. Plenty of room for storage . Very comfortable bed and pillows. We were so pleased to be within really easy walking of the main square and bars and restaurants. Two literally just round the corner. We had breakfast on all three mornings although we usually seek out local options. Good value for €10. Amazing fresh fruit salad and additional fruit and nuts and cereals etc. Excellent choice of fresh bread. Several hot dishes and cold meats and cheese. Brilliant freshly made espresso . Charming breakfast room with helpful staff. We found the staff on reception very polite and helpful. Modern reception rooms with intersting decor. Would definitely recommend. We hope to be back soon. Bologna is a great destination for short city break in unspoilt small but beautiful city. Ciau !!
This was not a bad experience although I expected more...Room was standard and it looked kind of isolated at the end of the corridor...It was not very spacious but OK for one person. It was full of amenities, in the room and in the bathroom:safe, slippers, bathrobe, toiletries, clean towels every day...There were however mospquitoes flying around and some other red bugs in the sink....which was quite of a disappointment!Staff was neither friendly nor indifferent...Stayed for two nights..breakfast was quite good!
Spent 3 nights at the Albergo al Capello Rosso in Bologna on a 4 day city break with some friends. The hotel is very well situated just off the Piazza Maggiore (about 3 minutes away) in a quiet side street. Each of the rooms is individually themed. Ours was Room 201 which was JFK (Kennedy) themed. The room itself was quite large but somewhat dark given the actual room theme design. It had a small (slightly claustrophobic) balcony looking out onto a smallish internal courtyard – not really one for sitting out to enjoy a drink. The bed was large. There was plenty of storage space including a secure drawer with electronic combination. There was an LCD TV with 3 or 4 English news channels. Wifi was good. There were tea and coffee making facilities and a mini bar. In line with the JFK theme there was also a rocking chair. The bathroom was very stylish with an in bath overhead shower. Towelling robes were provided. Towels were changed daily. Soundproofing was very good. We ate breakfast at the hotel at €10 per person. There was an excellent choice of croissants, danish pastries, cereals, fresh fruit, cheese and cold meats. The breakfast bar staff were very friendly providing various coffee options. We also ate lunch there one day and enjoyed a bowl of salad (my wife) and the full on pasta (me). Prior to our arrival the hotel recommended four possible local restaurants (3 of which we ate at, each being very good) and arranged transfers to/from the airport at €28 for the car. At all times the staff were pleasant and helpful. It was interesting when we talked to our taxi driver on arrival that he was aware of the Rick Stein programme on UK TV and confirmed that it did have a significant impact on tourist numbers. Beware – when we were there May 2017 Neptunes Statue was covered in scaffolding and the Asinelli Tower was closed until July! Having been to Bologna, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I cannot say that I would definitely rush to return – a case of seen it, done it. But if I did return I would without hesitation stay at the Al Capello Rosso.
Location: This hotel is ideally located as the main piazza is just around the corner from the hotel & has some very interesting history attached to it. Staff: The hotel staff here couldn't have been more helpful. They were quick to provide good information and recommend good restaurants. All recommendations were fabulous & reasonably close to the hotel. Breakfast: The breakfast was decent. Plenty of continental options and some hot food to choose from too such as bacon, sausages & scrambled egg. One day they even had some gluten free treats and they always had soya milk available for anyone with lactose intolerance. This gets a huge thumbs up from me! Rooms: We saw 2 of the rooms and the decor is a bit quirky and may not be to everyone's taste. Saying that it didn't detract from our experience here. The rooms & bathroom were clean, comfortable & well equipped & the cleaning staff did a superb job of replenishing stocks. The choice of tea and coffee is very varied too. I have redbush at home as try to avoid the caffeine and this is the 1st time any hotel has supplied it in my room; fabulous! Added to all that our rooms were very quiet despite us being over the front of the hotel main entrance. We were 4 female friends on holiday and all said we would love to visit Bologna again and stay in the same hotel as we loved it. All in all, what more could you ask for!
This hotel is located not more than a three minute walk from Piazza Maggiore and the heart of Bologna. We were able to get to many attractions, restaurants, cafes, stores and shops within a few minutes. The hotel is smallish but decorated with a real sense of style and humor. Our room showed some great graffiti which could best be appreciated in the mirrors! Another was Hot Pink themed and very cute. The rooms were not huge but plenty big enough for us. And the staff could not be more helpful and friendly. If we ever go back to Bologna, we will definitely stay at Al Cappello Rosso!
Hard to find a better location than this within 2 or 3 minutes flat walk to the centre of the old city. Hotel is about 25Euro taxi ride from the airport. Loads of restaurants in the immediate area. The hotel itself is fairly basic in terms of rooms and breakfast offerings. We were on the first floor which was fairly noisy both from below and directly outside, I am sure the higher floors or rooms at the back would be quieter. Hard to know what room rates are in the local hotels but felt this was fairly expensive for what you got.
We stayed for 3 nights. The first room we were allocated, was dark and had a strong unpleasant sewerage smell to it. We asked to be switched rooms but were told it wasn't possible but that the unpleasant odour problem would be fixed. When we returned in the evening the problem had supposedly been fixed and was blamed on a water issue. When we went to the room, the unpleasant smell was still present - if anything it was even worse. I told the management that we couldn't stay in the room and would have to switch hotels. Fortunately they found us an alternative room and this was much better. As far the rest of our stay, we have mixed feelings. On the positive, it is in a great location, the breakfast and breakfast staff are good. As to the rest of the reception team. Honestly, we didn't feel that they made us at all welcome. From arriving at the hotel, to resolving our issue, meeting any simple requests everything seemed to me met with either a frown or an initial response of no. Would we stay again, on balance, no.
We stayed at the Al Capello Rosso for a long weekend in an apartment. The rooms were spotless, the staff friendly and the food in the restaurant (we had breakfast and lunch) was wonderful. The hotel and apartments are very central, allowing us to easily walk to all key tourist destinations and the train station. The air conditioning was an older model and was quite noisy, especially during the night.
Dating back to the thirteenth century, the Capello Rosso is a beautifully appointed hotel a stone's throw from the Piazza Maggiore in one of Italy's greatest cities. It is is also very good value for money. The reception was charming and helpful. Around the corner is the very recommendable BattiBecco restaurant while the hotel itself has cheerful eating facilities.
