Very cute, boutique like hotel. Extremely well maintained and clean compared to the rest of the DR. Stayed one night in Be Live Hamaca next door with a large group and then moved to Refugio because we wanted to stay a few days longer and we were so glad we did. Hamaca is like a all inclusive cardboard box compared to Refugio. Not all the staff speaks English but they do have wifi so if we needed to communicate something we used google translate which worked fine. They serve breakfast from 8a-10am which is an extra charge but it's only 200-300 pesos so not too bad and it is fresh and delicious. Rooms are clean and beds are not bad. This may be a Dominican thing but we only had hot water the first day, not the second; this would be my only complaint. There are some restaurants that let you hang out and enjoy the beach (I use that term loosely because there is no sand) and they are right across the street; they are also expensive especially if you tack on cocktails. You can also walk about 10 minutes to the public beach which isn't as nice but has sand. Over all if you need to stay near the airport this is the place to be. I would definitely stay here again while in the area.
