Star View Guest House

I stayed at Starview Guest House for about 3 weeks. Amanda and her staff were very nice and friendly. We always had interesting conversations sitting at the rooftop talking about life, nepal, spiritual stuff and whatever comes to mind. The view of Kathmandu from the rooftop was fantastic (when the fog doesn't block the view). I could even see the Boudha stupa on a clear day (with the help of a binoculars, of course). The cook often made delicious cookies in the afternoon for everyone. I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle, and Amanda was very nice to go to the hospital and buy me a compression bandage for my ankle, and lend me her walking stick. I stayed in a single room, with the common bathroom just outside my door, which is very convenient. My room is comfortable, but can be quite cold during the winter. Luckily the room had 2 thick blankets and i also had my own sleeping bag. The guest house is popular with nepalis who would come and stay during holidays and weekends. So, sometimes it can be quite busy. Some nights, there were guests coming in late, or singing songs and playing guitar on the rooftop. It was a very homely, local experience. Nevertheless, it is still a great guest house to stay because of the wonderful people who run the place. On my last day at the guest house, Amanda gave me a ride to the city as she was also going there to do her shopping. Thankyou everyone.

This is truly a home away from home. Amanda Summers and her staff are genuinely pleased to welcome you and accommodate all your needs in planning your trip. The village is a lovely place and the location of the Starview perfect to observe the peaks of the Himalayas and the Kathandhu valley. There are convenient buses to Bhaktapur and I was glad to be able to do day trips to Bhaktapur and Kathmandu and return to this comfortable guesthouse with my large ensuite room, rooftop dining and mostly Amanda's concern that my every question and need was being met. She sent a reliable driver to pick me up at the airport and even took me to the post office to send my packages.

I only stayed one night here. The location is particularly nice, up on a hill in a peaceful area away from the pollution and bustle of the city, and fairly close to the temple. Amanda (the proprietor) and her family were warm and welcoming and helpful. When I left, they kindly gave me a ride to Kathmandu as they were going anyway. The room and attached bathroom were clean and comfortable, and I had a good view from my window. The clean air was really a welcome change from Kathmandu. Although there was some construction going on nearby, the noise wasn't so bad. It was intermittent and anyway they don't work at night. I'd really like to come again at some point.

If you want to escape the hustle and pollution of Kathmandu (but have been traumatised by the scary and uncomfortable bus journeys in Nepal), peaceful Changunarayan is only an hour away. Star View guest house is well-placed at the edge of this charming village and is near the temple. It's run by Ama, who is an amazing person and is doing so many wonderful things to help Nepali people. She manages to be professional whilst making you feel like you're being welcomed into the family. The staff are all lovely, the food's delicious, the coffee is strong and the views are phenomenal. This is the only place I stayed in Nepal which meets European standards (anyone who's backpacked in Nepal knows what a blessing clean sheets, fluffy pillows and toilet paper are) and it's very reasonably priced. A must for your stay in Nepal!

A friend and I spent two nights at Star View, which we thoroughly enjoyed; it was peaceful and quiet up in the hills away from the hussle and bussle of Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Good views of the Kathmandu Valley below us. Well looked after by Ama and her staff, and I would recommend staying there.

At the top of the hill, in one of the quietest places of Bhaktapur! We tried delicious pancakes and french toast. Breakfast on the terrace with a panoramic view is undoubtedly one of the best if you like to relax and enjoy the silence!  The room is super clean and comfortable. You can walk just five minutes and go to one of the oldest Hindu temples in Nepal, Changu Narayan! And it's also possible to trek from here to Nargarkot. It should be around 3 hours.

To escape the chaos of Thamel and the busy tourist areas of Bhaktapur it's the best option! Amanda, the owner, receives her guests as family members. The staff is super polite and attentive. The rooms are spacious and the bathroom is new and superclean. Hot water, a huge bed and great linens! And the view? From the suite, an incredible one. From the terrace, a breathtaking 360 view. Best place to relax and have a tea. I feel at home here and enjoyed peaceful moments with my friends. To get in Bhaktapur just take a local bus and in half an hour you are there! Is a great opportunity to interact with local people and experience a real Nepali life routine. To finish, the design of the building is beautiful! The construction is all worked in wood, a meticulous work! I would definitely recommend it!

Good breakfast, the hotel staff was extremely kind and explained everything about the area. We went to the temple(Changunarayan) which is only a few minutes walk away and the oldest of Nepal. It's being remodeled, but still very impressive. Worth to visit! Then we walked down a street with lots of craft shops and visited a sensational painting school. Amanda and her staff are willing to help you with anything you need. I felt comfortable in every way around here. Good tip for a few days of rest with a breathtaking view!

Stopped by here for lunch after visiting the temple, and to look at the view. What a wonderful guest house! The food was amazing. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean and comfortable. They even have electric blankets! The village has a wonderful atmosphere. Will definitely look at staying here the next time I come to Nepal. Thanks, Amanda for your wonderful hospitality 😊.

Starview is not just a nice guesthouse with big, clean rooms, friendly service from all the staff/family , in a fantastic location ( 360 degrees CinemaScope view of the Kathmandu Valley and the mountain ranges in the North ) but also a place from where the dynamo expat, Amanda, " Amma", runs a nonprofit doing all kinds of cool and helpful things for the Changu area and it's inhabitants including people, dogs, livestock and a large wildcat that has been living in the nearby forest. As of this writing, there has not been any substantive evidence whether it is a large wildcat, a mountain cat, a leopard or maybe even a tiger! Amanda is working with a vet, Mr. Joshi, to film and and relocate the animal. Just another day at Starview... I recommend staying at Starview if you are of the mindset of being more than just another tourist. This is a place for visionaries. Go get your spirit uplifted, heart warmed and soul filled.
