I was told by multiple travel magazines that this "is" a luxury hotel. In actual reality, this is FAR FROM what is advertised on its neatly designed website. The lowdown: 1) The reception area looks tired, in all respects, to be utterly honest. The wall furnishings need immediate rework. The desk itself appears to be so tired. The floor tiles have to be cleansed thoroughly. The whole area is not airy, but cramped. There is a feeling of under-maintenance in the air – everything does not look posh or chic. Not all all. 2) The sofas: they advertise these sofas in many photos on their website. Yes, I thought they would look sleek. But the reality disappointed mercilessly: there is no magic, no charm and no warmth about any of these sofas. In any hour of the day, shine or rain, I never felt the slightest thrill of being pampered in a luxurious setting, based on my intensive experiences with other genuinely five-starred hotels. On the website, there is particularly one photo (which must have attracted many, many other guests) showing a huge sofa deployed in front of a huge glass window. The reality? Forget it. The surroundings beyond that glass window are a far cry from beautiful. Cramped houses, some shabby and others in need of repainting, are what I saw during each of the 5 days. 3) Breakfast: It was NOT a decent spread. I did not have many choices of bread. Salmon, sausages and muesli, etc., all tasted bland. Not delicious. Just not that good as you would expect from a typical Swiss hotel. 4) The outdoor pool: This is the BIGGEST trick, ever! The pool is extremely small, shallow and unattractive. I was even shocked by its appearance in reality (I know, it looks divine on photos!). Unless you rush there in early morning or late evening, the pool was always filled with guests. Believe me, it was quite an eyesore, when too many arms and legs floated or floundered around you. 5) The room: The most generous adjective I can give is functionally “adequate”. The wardrobe is of poor timber. The carpet needs deep cleaning. The desk lamp is bulky and stubborn looking. The sound insulation is non-existent. I heard every footstep clearly from upstairs in each of my four nights there. Sleeping early is impossible, at all. The leather sofa beside the bed is of an expensive design and I know it was famous. BUT it was not comfortable when you lie down, no matter how many pillows you use to support your back – there is always an annoying hollow space between you back and the sofa. No way to work it out. If there is any design which looks great but proves disastrous, I vote for this one. 6) The gym: Very small, sparsely equipped. Strange lighting effect – it looks more like a cramped pub, full of orangey red inside the tight space. 7) The indoor pool: Meagerly acceptable. However, the water is too cold for any attempt to have a dip. I swam 3 minutes and fled the area for the room for a hot shower. 8) Adelboden: As a ski resort, Adelboden is not too good-looking, in terms of landscape and terrains. I did not expect too much. But what I saw still disappointed me. I visited every sight available and none of them was worth mentioning. And I have been many parts of Switzerland. And I have concluded that Adelboden is not amongst the prettiest parts of this blessed country. 9) The staff: They are warm-hearted. Quite so. Upon checking-out, a receptionist gave me the bill and I was surprised to see that one night’s charge was forgotten. I pointed this out and asked him to re-do the billing, he did it. Without saying thanks. I was wondering there and then: am I in a five-starred hotel, at all? I do not think this is a five-starred hotel. Apparently their marketing team is brilliant. Bravo!

Definitely the best hotel in the area. The highlight is the outdoor pool. It is a one of a kind experience to swim there when the outside temperature is -15 degrees. The spa area is very nice. Loved the design and also the treatments were very good. The view from our room was outstanding. All members of the staff were very polite and helpful. Only negative is that the day we were checking out we had asked them to have the car ready at a specific time and they totally forgot. As a result we left almost 2 hours later than scheduled when we had a plane to catch. Restaurant good but not great. All the dishes had the same seasoning which was boring. The view is what makes it so unique. We went skiing in the mornings but I could have easily stayed at the spa area all day. Highly recommended. Value for money!

Room was lovely, we opted for a north facing deluxe. When we return, I think we will go for the south facing to soak up more of that view! (Although we were in the spa / out hiking most of the time so didn't notice as much!) The decor of the hotel is wonderful, being Welsh I was possibly more charmed than most with the Welsh art through the place... A little bit of home so far away! The staff at the hotel are wonderful- so friendly and accommodating- you want to find them before leaving to say goodbye! Bar staff very knowledgeable about drinks to advise new things to try. We ate at the restaurant for the two nights that we were there, the first night we had sharer plates and the second we had a set meal. The ingredients were fresh, tastes rich. I wish we had tried the food in the bar- that also looked really tasty- next time! The breakfast buffet is second to none- so many options!! We got really lucky with the weather, not a cloud in the sky for our break which is unusual for early April. We went hiking to Oeschinen Lake- around an hours drive away (frozen when we visited, but a great hike), then visited Blausee on the way back. Blausee lake is unbelievable- so blue! The forest walks surrounding it are wonderful too. We hired a car from Basel airport and drove to the hotel and then used this during our stay. Our satnav took us through the mountains to get to Oeschinen- such an experience but not for the faint-hearted. The roads are very narrow and get busy in parts, lots of reversing down single lanes with a big drop to your side! Fabulous views but if you aren't so confident, take the main roads. Car parking at the hotel was easy, the hotel staff parked our vehicle and got it out for us whenever we needed it. Parking was 18CHF per day. The spa is beautiful and was the main attraction for our visit. The spa facilities are brilliant, steam room, sauna, relaxation room, indoor pool and outdoor pool. The outdoor pool was very busy at times but we always managed to find a spot- people seem to rotate through! Lots of people get very excited on arrival and take photos while in the pool (its hard not to- its so beautiful) but this does eventually calm down..!! We had a wonderful experience and plan to return (possibly even this year after the planned refurb.. and we aren't the type to return to places so quickly!!) Thanks for a lovely stay Cambrian team!

Traveling with two children ages 11 and 14 we booked two rooms. The hotel does not honor SPG Platinum benefits so were not offered any room upgrades and were give two rooms overlooking the street. We paid an upgrade the next day to move to a valley view room which is the whole point of this hotel. The breakfast buffet was very good basic breakfast with some nice local cheeses and other offerings. We would have preferred if there were covers for the food, even at the table, to protect from the flies. The doors were kept open, which was wonderful, but there were many flies. The small pool was a great plan to chill and look out at the view. There are some note water features which kept the 11 and 14 year old engaged a bit. The region is fantastic. There are some very nice restaurants in the immediate area and food in the hotel was excellent and cozy. There is also a grocery market around the corner for easy access to provisions. The highlight of our trip was the cable car up to the mountain top where the ropes course is. The views were amazing and the air wonderful. We wish we had left more time to walk back down. It is in a valley so getting to other attractions you need to drive back down the valley to get to the main roadways. It was wonderful for a destination but next time we may split the stays with other hotels for better access to attractions.

Amenities are amazing and match the breath-taking view, even if the infinity pool is not as infinity as pictures make it out to be and, being relatively small, gets crowded. However, the main problem with this hotel is the service. The staff only did the bare minimum and seemed bothered to fulfill basic requests. Most disappointing, staff failed to point out that pool and spa facilities closed at 1pm on the day of checkout, ruining our plans. The staff didn‘t seem to care, which left a very bad taste in my mouth.

Nestled in the mountain town of Adelboden is The Cambrian. Famous on social media for it's beautiful views and pool - made it a fantastic place to wind down after a few days of skiing! We had booked two rooms between the four of us. Parking was sorted out by reception and check in was a fast and simple procedure. The decor is modern meets Swiss mountain with some cool features such as the floating cloud, funky piano and mountain view lounge. The rooms were clean, moderately spacious but elegantly decorated. The highlight was the pool and it's views! Each room has a gown you can slip into when you're ready to go for a dip - make your way to the spa area and head to the outside pool. Theres approximately space for 15-20 people with jacuzzi jets dotted around the heated pool. We spent almost an hour in the pool relaxing and soaking in the views! The restaurant in the hotel was good, but nothing special. Breakfast was included in our rate, and the spread was excellent! We wish we stayed here longer!

This is a beautifully designed hotel - understated, comfortable and with stunning views, including from the well-heated outdoor pool. The hotel is chic but not pretientious - there's a relaxed atmosphere that makes the stay even more enjoyable. Our family suite room was spacious with quality bedding. The staff are friendly and customer focused. The breakfast buffet that comes w/the room rate is fantastic!! Huge selection and high quality, really pleased (makes the room rate worth it). The town of Adelboden is charming and this part of Switzerland is a must visit. Absolutely would stay here again!

Great room, arrived and we had cake waiting for us as a welcome. Spa is clean and really nice, the view of the pool and the relaxing area by in the indoor. Lovely staff, really attentive. Only minus is the fact that people don't always go by the spa rules and staff don't come in too often to check.

First of all, the hotel is very easy to get to as it is directly across from the bus terminus (since you have to take a bus from the Frutigen train station). Beautiful property and we loved the outdoor pool (especially in the winter when fog is rolling through the town)! The buffet breakfast was outstanding with an extremely varied selection. The staff was very friendly and helpful, with the exception of the bar staff who seemed out of sync with everyone else. However, the tom ka gai (Thai coconut chicken soup) was super delicious!

I really enjoyed our stay at the Cambrian. From the moment of arrival, I felt welcome and at home and the whole atmosphere in the hotel was relaxed and very enjoyable. The hotel itself is very good, although not as special as other reviews suggest. But the views are certainly beautiful. We did not eat in the restaurant as the menu did not appeal to us, but there are plenty of other options to eat out within walking distance in Adelboden. The hotel bar is great though. In general, the service was excellent. Only the ski shuttle needs to be improved. The hotel is not in the most convenient location to access the ski resort. So the ski shuttle really is essential. Unfortunately, it was always difficult to organise and we had to wait rather long to be picked up in the afternoon or taken to the ski lift in the morning. All in all, a great place to stay though. I hope to come back next winter.
