Mercure Hotel Berlin Tempelhof Airport4.0 out of 5.0

Having previously stayed at the hotel three years ago, we chose it again as an alternative to the event hotel for the conference we were attending last week. Again, we had a most comfortable stay, and enjoyed the location in a real neighborhood with a mix of restaurants and activity, plus within walking/running distance to the Tempelhof Feld for running and other exercise. The hotel is next to the U-Bahn stations, so there is easy access to all parts of the city (though a taxi to Potsdamer Platz will run you about €17). Our only complaint was that we reported a broken stopper in our sink on a Tuesday evening, just 15 minutes past the time when the maintenance person went home. Though the staff tried to fix the issue, they were not able to, and gave us the choice of dealing with a sink without a stopper or changing rooms--reasonable, but I would think that a 4-star hotel would have a maintenance person on call for these types of things rather than inconveniencing guests. Otherwise, they were most friendly.
I stayed here because my flight was cancelled and the airline decided to put us up here. A nice gesture by the airline on the face of it, but it didn't feel like a welcoming hotel from arriving to leaving. Check in was a lengthy affair, possibly because the airline was sending all passengers here and I had to wait my turn upon arriving, but the staff had no warmth about them as hosts of the hotel, compared to previous 4 star hotels i've stayed in around the world (including in Berlin). The decor is ugly, the use of space could be much nicer and that created a rather drab ambiance. Things were a little nicer in the rooms, at least the general look of the beds in the rooms, but again the rooms were tiny, all the sockets were in the worst possible places which meant a lot of crawling along the floor. It's quite frankly ridiculous that no thought was put into basic amenities and placement of features. The bed was also firm and I found it too uncomfortable to sleep on. The noise from the traffic outside is also annoying. The shower was also very basic. It was nice to get a choice of firm and soft pillows though, so thumbs up for that. In the morning buffet breakfast was slightly disappointing too, at least the choice was slightly below par for a 4 star hotel. It has the usual cereals, fruits, pastries and the hot food - which was actually ok, but It took a while to be asked if I would like coffee with my breakfast, there appeared to be no other cutlery apart from a spoon, so allow them to take a knife or fork at your peril if you still want to use one to continue eating, or probably take one from another table setting for maintaining the flow. I didn't dare ask if there were other hot drink options, but it was good to see as I was leaving the restaurant that there is a choice of Italian style coffees for those that ask. It would be nicer to be asked though.
Staff on reception was not helpfull at check out. They did not include breackfast as an accomodation package reffering on different taxes etc notwithstanding the rate was including breackfast. The guy was not flexiple he blocked ammount on my credit card and after that charged my depit card as well. He was looking unhappy to cancel operation on my credit card to avoid double charging. Generaly feeling was not good with this hotel. Would not recommend for long stay. One night, not more and only if you did not have a chance to find another hotel.
We stayed in this hotel during our citytrip in august 2017. The hotel isn't in the center of Berlin, but there's a metrostation like 100 m from the hotel. The metro takes you to the Alexanderplatz in about 10 minutes. From there, you can change to other metrolines, so you can reach the entire city. The reception at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Our room was spacious, clean and we even had a little kitchenette in our room with fridge, which was very handy. The bathroom was very clean and spacious too. Breakfast is outstanding! Various types of bread and pastries, toast, brioche, different types of marmelade, meat, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, sausages, bacon etc... The staff is very friendly and serves coffee at the table. If we should come back to Berlin, we would stay here all over!
This hotel is situated in Berlin outside the center, but with a metro station nearby. For us it was well situated for the familyvisit in this neighbourhood. We had an executive room, which provides more space, a refrigorator and a coffeemachine. We thought it was well worth the 30 euro extra per night. Although the room was situated around the corner of the very busy Hermannstrasse, we still were bothered by the noice of the traffic. We skipped the breakfast in the hotel.
We really enjoyed our stay here. Located in an up and coming part of the city, this hotel is very new and everything works well. The restaurant was closed in the evenings but the breakfast was excellent - good choices, service and space. Our only disappointment was that facilities for tea and coffee in the rooms have been removed following abuse by guests - a pity that some do not treat places better, especially it seems Chinese visitors.
Excellent service from Reception staff. Silvia from Lobby bar was pretty kind and sweet. Rooms are comfortable, housekeeping team does a very good job! Everything is clean and organized. Breakfast...delicious!!! // The hotel is close of bars, restaurants, supermarkets and ATM's. If you come to Berlin, stay here!
Room is good, modern and clean. Location is out of city centre but near public transport, supermarkets and some shops. So why only 2 stars? Because the female receptionists are rude. When I came and passed by I said hello, she looked at me and ignored me. Then when I passed by the next day, no greetings/acknowledgement. Lastly when I checked out, she was busy helping other guests, thus I waited. She knew I'm checking out because I had my keys and suitcase with me. But she did not even acknowledge my present to give her some time before she can help me. She completely ignored me. Almost 10 mins later, I decided to leave since my train is leaving, then she just said "Hallo?! Your room number?" and when I replied she did not say, thank you for staying, have a nice journey back or anything, just "OK". She did not even have the courtesy to say, excuse me, sorry, or mam, or anything just directly HALLO? with not even nice tone! As a hotelier, this is not an acceptable manner. Different experience when it was the male receptionists, they at least say good morning, hello, good evening, or smile. Such a pity for a nice property to have this kind of poor service! I do not want to sound sexist but not sure why the female receptionists I encounter are this rude. The workers in the breakfast area, both male and female are just equally nice. Housekeeping staffs are also nice.
Mediocre location Mediocre staff attitude Mediocre food Mediocre service Mediocre room service Stayed here to visit family. Staff is ok unless you ask one question too many. Then you get impatient answers. Bar / lounge is deserted most of the day. No cafe to get coffee. you have to order from room service. Room service menu is a joke. Would love to post is here for a laugh. Breakfast restaurant on second floor is ok as is the buffet. Buffet staff are the only bright spot in the hotel.
The hotel is nice but the location is quite far from the centre. Rooms are standard and clean, service on average. During the stay we had very interesting amusement with fire alarm on - but in half hour we were back in the hotel :-)
