The Berlin Ibis City Ost has dreadful connectivity issues. The first room we checked into we could not get any of our 3 devices connected so we requested a room closer to the router. We moved rooms and it was still abysmal connection speed, even gmail timed out. This was not only on one of our devices it was on all 3 of them, thank goodness we could connect using our 4G mobile Do not think about staying here if you need to be connected.
We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. It is about a half hour drive from the airport in a lovely neighbourhood. The hotel is clean and safe, and the staff are super helpful. Its a 5 minute walk to the U-bahn station, and a 10 minute walk from Boxhagener Platz that has around 100 different bars and restaurants. If you want an authentic German experience, then this is perfect, as we were the only tourists in the area. The only downside is that the breakfast was slightly disappointing, there wasn't a hot option, but apart from that, the hotel was perfect.
Situated in a quite residential area, it offers relatively large rooms and nice breakfast, next to some grocery stores, pubs, and restaurants. Free coffee and cake in the hotel's dining room during daytime. Very easy access by underground from Alexanderplatz. WiFi worked well on my computer, yet problematic in my wife's computer. Maybe blocked by the antivirus.
Bad things first: The Wifi wasn't working and there was a notice about it will get fixed soon but it wasn't fixed. I didn't bother reporting it. The room insulation is not the best, you can hear people walking in the hallway or their TV noise in their room. Good things : The room is super clean, my room was big enough and had all the needed things. Bathroom was also nice. The rooms look outdated but for this price, it's not an issue at all. Breakfast didn't had many options but it was tasty and there was juice, coffee, tea, etc. In general : For this price it's really nice hotel. I can recommend it for staying there 1 or 2 nights for solo or mid-age couples. The location isn't bad, 5-10 minutes walk to U-bahn station.
Horrible! Stay away from this. In my whole 4 night stay they coudn’t fix the WiFi connection. They gave me a free coke, and every time I reminded them that WiFi was not working they replied “but we gave you a free drink!”.
Good location - short walk to U-bahn and ample local dining options. Rooms were clean, adequate and breakfast very good. Staff were helpful. Only shortcoming is that wi-fi was woeful. But certainly a good option offering value for money.
For the price we paid, I would be hard pressed to demand more from the Ibis Berline City Ost. Our rooms were comfortable and had all the features we needed (though the beds were, confusingly, in a configuration not listed on their site, there were still enough of them). The location is pretty good, very convenient to the U5 and reasonably close to Boxhagenerkiez and the S41/42 ring train. There were some issues with VERY LOUD locals on the sidewalk at 3 to 6 in the morning having midnight beers and debates that kept us up, though. Breakfast was tasty and free. Really, everything I expected from them, they met and then exceeded a little bit. I do, though, want to call out the staff, who exceeded my expectations by a huge margin. They were among the nicest and friendliest hotel staff I’ve dealt with in all of Europe and went out of their way to help us both as guests (making sure our rooms were close together, helping us check in and out, etc) and as tourists (with good advice and recommendations for things to do and see). Of course you should come to Ibis hotels expecting a budget experience, and stay in Friedrichschain expecting a very lively location, but given those expectations I think this hotel will be a pleasant surprise in most ways. Thanks for the great stay!
Well, it might seem that the location is a bit on the rough side, but it's just a short walk from the lovely Boxhagener platz, with a great street market on saturdays. Large clean rooms and bathrooms! Excellent service from all staff, very friendly, smiling and attentive. Only small downside were that the beds were a bit on the osft side to our taste, the wifi was a bit unstable, and the light in the breakfast room was very strong. These are really minor downsides, not changing that this place is very good value for money. We'll be back!
The room was good. Staff very helpful and kind. Breakfast was complete since there was a fair variety of products. In general, it was pretty good. Only thing I found very disappointing was that the wifi was not working for most of the time. Some days it didn't work at all.
At 85 euros/night which included a pretty good breakfast spread, the Ibis Styles Berlin City Ost was a good choice for those traveling on a budget. It is located on a quiet side street in an interesting area which I would compare to the Greenwich Village section of New York. It is just one block away from Frankfurter Allee and the U-5 Samariterstrasse Station. Five stops on this line (about 10 minutes) get to the Alexanderplatz station which is a central hub to all parts of this very interesting city including Museum Island, the Reichstag and numerous shopping and dining areas. The rooms are on the small side but are clean and well maintained. The bathrooms all have rather narrow shower stalls and we had plenty of hot water during our stay. There is no AC but, even though this was the last two weeks in July, we really did not need it. My only complaint would be that at times the wi-fi seemed to be a little overwhelmed on days when a lot of guests were present. The staff were always friendly and helpful and most could speak and understand English very well. Our son and his wife live about ten minutes walk from this hotel and we would definitely stay here again on our next visit to Germany.
