The wi fi was the only decent communication at this hotel. Reception staff were unhelpful to the point of being rude. Any information had to be pried out of them like pulling teeth. As for the room it had seen better days and the bathroom minute. The sliding shower door was so narrow a large person would struggle to get in. Breakfast OK.

My travel agent booked this hotel, not me. This is an old-fashioned, out-dated, shabby hotel. I have stayed in better 2* hotels. My room was about as far as you can walk from the lift (ending in 27). It was like the sort of room students would stay in in the early 70s, although it did include a bathroom. There was no hot water, no room service, unless for alcoholic drinks, no tea/coffee making facilities, no minibar. After a long days travelling/flight delay etc., I couldn't even get a hot drink in the evening. There was a mis-match of furnature in the oddly-shaped room. If my friend sat at the chair at the table, there wasn't much room to open the bathroom door. The worst thing was the bath: it was walled in! leaving a gap to get into the bath/shower, but unfortunately, being slightly disabled, I couldn't get in the gap and so couldn't have a shower or wash my hair. I asked to change rooms, but was told they were fully booked. I seriously considered moving to another hotel, but couldn't afford it. The bed was comfortable, but the 2 pillows were so soft and floppy that they offered no support at all, and there wasn't a big, thick bath towel to put underneath them to lift them a bit. The breakfast room is on the 1st floor - with a different lift from the lifts to the rooms. It would have been nice if the receptionist had told us this, saving a fruitless search around the first floor rooms looking for the breakfast room. At least when we found it, there was a good view of the strasse. Speaking of receptionists, their English wasn't very good. They understood simple questions, but anything not as simple, they didn't seem to grasp. One receptionist was quite rude. After a day's sightseeing, I started dreading returning to my room. There is a really good little Italian restaurant nearby. Turn right out of the hotel, then first right again, I think. There are several places to eat very close. And yes, they do keep playing "Hotel California". I checked out, and thank goodness, I could leave, too. PS Why is this hotel called "California" in Berlin? It has absolutely nothing to do with California. The ground floor reminds me of an old-fashioned french hotel I stayed in, in 1970

We stayed here for 3 nights, it was very easy to find with it being on the Ku'dam. The reception was always busy but very helpful when needed. We booked a double room but it was just 2 singles pushed together. The room it's self was massive with the smallest bathroom ever!! Our room looked onto an internal courtyard which was never ever quiet even during the early hours. We didn't book breakfast but food was aplenty out and about. Berlin is a fantastic & vibrant city with lots to see and do, this hotel makes for a great base to enjoy all it has to offer.

We stayed in this hotel for a week mid-September and are very pleased with our experience. The hotel is ideally located, near U-bahn and train station which were perfect for getting the train from airports, and getting the train for a trip to Potsdam! The room was the perfect size for a base for our trip, not too small, and the beds were very comfortable! We had a room with two beds pushed together, as is typical in Germany, so don't be put off! The bathroom was nice, however there wasnt any shower gel or shampoo, but luckily there's a very cheap shop next door selling toiletries for under 1€. The breakfast was great, we went down between 06:45 and 08:30 throughout the week and had the same good experience every time. One morning we did have to wait a bit for more coffee to arrive, but considering we didn't request coffee at all it wasn't a slight. The staff were friendly, not the over the top friendliness that seems off putting, but a genuine friendliness as you walk out each morning. We did manage to lock ourselves out of our safe on our last morning, but after talking to the reception, they sent someone to get us in again very promptly. I would very happily stay here again.

Hotel location wise was amazing. Right next to lots of shops and restaurants and 100 yards from a tube station. Hotel staff were very nice and the break fast was amazing. It says continental but there is also sausages, scrambled egg with bacon, chicken balls. Gym was really good although only used it twice. Make sure to put a do not disturb sign on your door though as a maid walked straight in without knocking once.

Location was great, breakfast generous and hotel decorated in old style luxury throughout (with all mod cons!) . We had nice balcony but not of use this time of year (February)! Location is ideal for exploring this very spread out city with lots of busses and UBahn outside our door. Only drawback was the bathroom which had an unsealed sliding glass door which meant that some odour spread into bedroom - maybe it was just in our room.

It's a cheap hotel. They have 4 Stars but in reality, by international standards, I would give it a 2+. I arrived a 2 pm and 4 people were at the registration desk. 3 Where occupied between themselves and one was working. He was slow and not sure what he was doing having to ask all the time the others which really did not want to get disturbed. I would say it was a bit chaotic the registration. Also as we could not have the room before 3 pm I had to wait for another person who could help me with the luggage meanwhile. After 10 minutes wait he took care of the luggage. The rooms are simple but very clean. The location is very good and when you are out the whole day use the hotel only for sleeping it's alright as the beds are very comfortable.

Just returned from visiting this hotel with my daughter for two nights. The hotel was quite easy to find, we got the train from Schonefeld airport to Zoologischal Gartens station then the U-Bahn to Uhlandstr station, on leaving this station, the hotel is about 100 yards in front of you...look for the Hagen Dazs signs/umbrellas. The reception staff were cordial and helpful when needed, the room which was a standard was clean but basic. Beds nice and comfortable, bathroom lovely but very very small. Really would be nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, definitely lacked this! Location of hotel in a good district with easy and quick transport to Central locations in the city. Breakfast was a bit of a let down, not the best options if you don't like eggs! Would be nice to have more variation. Slight concern about the room safe too, had some issues with it, even though the instructions were followed to the letter. Not the best when security is important. All in all a good and pleasant stay, just a couple of points as mentioned that could be improved.

Just stayed here for four nights. Fantastic location for everything ,close to public transport ,we got a cab from airport on arrival €45 but train back from zoological garden station..ten min walk..€3.70! Hotel room basic but clean and beds made daily, staff friendly and helpful. Hair dryer useless so advise taking a more powerful one! Would have been nice to have coffee/ tea making facilities too. Haagen Dazs parlour a must next door,we didn't stay B and B and found a lovely place for breakfast called Cappuccinos.Lovely visit to Berlin and would recommend here.

I stayed at the Hotel California for 4 nights in the end of July 2017 holidaying in Berlin. The last time I stayed I was a little disappointed, especially with the breakfast, so I was a little exited as i checked in again. The check in was very efficient this time. It seems they had my name and details on record, so the paperwork was minimal. The room was very spacious with a nice double bed, a desk, minibak and chairs and table. It had air-condition that worked well, and itkept the temperature at a nice, comfortable level despite the heat outside and without making any noise at all. The hotel is located on the Kurfurstendamm not far from railwaystations, U-bahn and bus services. Shopping is very good in the neighborhood wit a lot of stores from leading brands. It is hard to find a better located hotel at a better price in Berlin. Based on my experiences the last time I was here, I did not have great expectations as I went to breakfast on the fist morning of my stay. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Despite many people eating the staff managed to clear the tables as they were vacated and they were soon ready for new customers. The breakfast buffet was varied with a wide selection of food, and the staff refilled as soon as an item was emptied. All in all a very good experience this time. The only item that was not to my satisfaction was the stability/bandwidth of the Wi-Fi network provided by the hotel. In my room it was not stable, it came and went, and the bandwidth was not even sufficient to download a few pictures. I think this was particularly bad in my room, as others experienced better coverage in their rooms. All in all The Hotel California is a hotel that has a perfect location and offers good value for money. I'll be back!
