I went to Berlin for the Christmas fairs, and stayed in this quiet hotel with my daughter. We arrived late in the evening and at first thought the night porter a bit surly. However, after breaking the ice,put it down to shyness as he proved very helpful and friendly. We decided to stay room only,as my daughter is vegan and we weren’t sure if the hotel provided for her. All the front of house staff spoke English to a certain degree, although it helps if you speak some German to fill the gaps and avoid confusion in translation. The hotel is situated at the top end of Ku’damm, just south of the Kaiser Wilhelm kirche around which the nearest Christmas Fair was set up,and across the road from the Berlin history museum. The facade is quite modern, but the building itself seems to date from pre war. The rooms have high ceilings, are spacious, and all have tv and free WiFi. However,no tea/coffee facilities and the rooms were quite chilly as the heating was a bit hit and miss in timings. There are free safes in the rooms, the shower rooms are provided with the usual shampoo and towels and all rooms are cleaned daily. I think 3 star is nearer than the advertised 4 star, but I’ve stayed in worse in my travels. They also have a room available for luggage on check out. I would probably stay here again when I return to Berlin as the room rates are reasonable, it’s ideally situated for access to sites of interest, whether walking or using public transport, bus stops and metro within 50 metres, and restaurants, cafes and bars and shops all around, based on Berlin’s “Oxford Street”.
If you are looking for a reasonable price hotel in Berlin, you will get it, California is the best choice. It is located in one of the best Berlin's areas, indeed, it is the main commercial street. It has got a nice atmosphere. In addition, it is more than well communicated, with some metro and train station over there. The staff was quite kind and nice, and very supportive. The breakfast is complete and has a great variety of fruits, breads and all you can think. This hotel is truly appealing.
This hotel is located on the very well known region Kudamm.its location is one of the best in Berlin.but if is it enough for you?the hotel is a very old building with very averege old rooms.everything in the rooms and building is old.Good for location lovers but bad for comfort anr rest.
Hotel is about 10mins from the Sban in a fancy neighbourhood with designer shops and nice looking eateries. We arrived two hours early expecting to drop our bags but our room was ready so we were allowed to check in early. We were allocated a room on the second floor and our room was at the back of the hotel which was nice and quiet. I imagine the rooms on the other side could be quite noisy. The room was a good size, the bathroom was very spacious. It was clean. We did laugh as despite being in Berlin there was a large photograph of the Brooklyn bridge on the wall! The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was equipped with hand wash and body wash in the shower. We had booked bed and breakfast. The breakfast selection was adequate if you were staying a few days but would be repetitive if staying for more than 3 or 4 nights. It was mainly continental but missing pastries, there was some hot food, scrambled eggs and sausage which didn’t look particularly appetising so I gave it a miss. We didn’t spend much time in the room - there is so much to do in Berlin - the hotels location was good with plenty shops and restaurants around, and the U ban and S ban within easy reach. And we slept well. I would rate the hotel as good - better than average, but not very good , due to the average breakfast.
Hotel in a good place , d,m near the hotel shops and brands 500 mile from hotel eorhpe senter 600 miles , the hotel is very fun to be inside warm and feels like home. Defently ill be back 😊😊 Not expensive feet for all!
Very disappointing stay. My boyfriend and I visited Berlin for 2 nights and found this hotel for a really good price, but this only slightly softened the blow of the shortcomings of this hotel. We had a double room booked, which would lead you to believe that we would get a double bed right? Wrong. We got two twin beds pushed together with two single duvets and the worst, thinnest, pillows I’ve ever used. The mattresses pushed together were also different firmnesses, one far too soft, and one hard, which we didn’t realise until the second day when we both discussed how we didn’t sleep all night. The beds were quite short too, and very low which could present issues for people with mobility issues. The room was also very stuffy which you wouldn’t expect for January Berlin, but there was no air con in the room, and we didn’t want the window open as the hotel is on a quite busy road. The room was just a bit basic and shabby, definitely not what you would expect from a 4 Star hotel. The amenities on offer in the room weren’t brilliant. No kettle or hot drink making facilities, which we expected for a “4 Star” hotel. The TV only had one English Channel that actually worked, which was China Global TV Network, although this wasn’t too much of a big deal as we didn’t spend too much time in the room. On our second day, we noticed the room was very cold when we arrived back at around 11pm, and found that the cleaner had opened the window which had them been left open all day in 0 degree January Berlin. The bathroom was nice, very big powerful shower head, although the actual shower space was very small and left us feeling a bit claustrophobic. The toiletries on offer weren’t brilliant; a shower gel and a hand soap which we are sure was the same product in different bottles... The staff we met was a bit of a mixed bag. The girl who checked us in was a bit short with us and rude. She wasn’t very helpful when we were trying to fill out the check in form, and wasn’t very welcoming. The staff in the ice cream shop at the front were friendly and very nice. However, on our second night, the same girl who checked us in came into the ice cream shop and asked one of the staff in there to run the front desk for her for a bit. So very clearly they are understaffed for such a huge hotel, and ran by young people who don’t really know what they are doing, or don’t care. We did deal with a positive receptionist the morning we checked out though, a boy who was helpful and friendly. We didn’t try the breakfast from this hotel so I can’t comment on that. The location of the hotel is good for the area, and as many people have mentioned, is very near to transport so you can get to other area of Berlin. Although expect it to take around half an hour to get from the hotel to the main side of Berlin. If you’re looking for a nice bar nearby, we visited the Van Gogh piano bar just round the corner, and really enjoyed it. The staff were polite there and the man playing the piano, although a bit eccentric was very enjoyable.
Pleasantly surprised, nice hotel and lobby very warm as it was very cold out. The room was massive with a nice bathroom with bath and shower I have it 4 stars because it was clean, tidy and the bed was so comfortable it was a pleasure to go to bed and nice pillows. Very clean hotel and breakfast was limited but adequate with superb coffee. It was a short walk to the next station about 15 mins where the walking tours meet up. It’s easy to travel by train travel card for the day was €7.70 all day all zones including busses and underground. Went to see a concentration camp which we didn’t actually know was in Berlin which was really original and so much more to do there. Most of the exhibitions are free. Lidl was just up the road and bottle of wine was very cheap as is eating out or for general shopping. Would recommend this hotel we got it through easy jet.
Have just spent two nights at this hotel which I booked through a Groupon deal. It was brilliantly located right on Kurfürstendamm which is one of the main shopping streets of Berlin. There us a U Bahn stop within about 100 metres of the hotel which makes getting around the whole city very easy. My room was spacious and nice and warm and the breakfast buffet was generous. There is a bar and restaurant (which I did not visit). For the price this hotel is hard to beat given its great location.
Nice little hotel just a few minutes from Uhlanderstrasse underground (U-bahn) station. It took just over an hour from Schoenefeld airport on easy public transport. One way cost 3,40 euro, but the Berlin Welcome card proved good value for us. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean, cosy and comfortable (typical European double = two singles together with single duvets too). Sadly, there is no kettle or coffee maker in the room. Breakfast is good and plentiful. Right on the K'damm, and just a few minutes walk from the Kaiser Wilhelm church/Europa Center/KaDeWe department store, and excellent nearby bus connections to the city (100, 200, M29 all take different routes and pass many city sights, so don't always take the underground) Great location for one of the lovely Christmas markets at Breitscheidsplein by the church. I had a hot chocolate in the Haagen Daz cafe downstairs...but would have preferred NOT to have several covers of THAT song (including instrumental and a mariachi band version) play in the background. Too Cheesy! 😁
2nd visit but changes not for the better. rooms are small but ok if just two people however the bathroom is very small. we were visiting for Christmas Markets so we're prepared for the cold and snowing, what we did not expect is everything we came back in to the room after being out in the cold, was to find the heating had been TURNED OFF and the window OPENED..... Why???? it took a while for the room to heat back up. Breakfast is continental as expected, however cold scrambled eggs and barely warm tiny hotdogs style sausage. the toaster after three times through finally gave toast not warm bread. not a great choice.
