Very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was excellent. Price was great and we highly recommend it. Service was excellent. Room was extremely spacious and clean. Location was fantastic to main street and transportation.
Old style hotel, with quiet rooms and LCD television. Offers parking place for 10 Euro/ Day with a 50 Euro initial deposit that will give back at departure. 4 minutes walk to the metro station that connects to the city centre or Messe Berlin. Warm and nice rooms, clean. The bathroom does not have shower gel only cheap soap available. The rooms are quite big, especially the last rooms on the corridor that are very big. Fx.40 and 41 on 3. floor. Breakfast is average with cheap stuff but OK, with fruits and nuts, different kind of breads and cheese and sweets and cakes. You should try the filter coffee is very good.
Excellent location, a few steps from the Ku’damm and its useful buses, and about a four-minute walk to the even more useful S-Bahn. There are restaurants up the street and a DM sundries shop nearby. The hotel is an old-fashioned family-run budget walkup in a vintage building with quiet courtyard rooms and a 24-hour front desk where coffee and beer are available at fair prices. Breakfast is routine but included in the low price. High ceilings make the singles seem larger than they are. No phone (who needs it?) and a nice simple desk. Stiff but acceptable mattress. Almost no shelf space. The 1904 elevator (rebuilt last year) is – despite what you might read elsewhere – a delight.
The location is the best in Berlin for all the reasons. When reading several of the reviews I have to chuckle because some folks seem to forget that the rating of a hotel is relative to its price and the value offered. I paid $75 a night to be around the corner of the Champs'Elysees of Berlin. Heck, for that price I gladly take an old elevator, actually it was being rebuilt when I was there in October 2017 and I took the stairs, and a room that's clean beyond reproach, although vintage, and yes, somehow reminded me of Moscow fashion, but most hotel rooms really aren't decorated to my taste, or anyone else's. For transportation, it is a dream to take the bus from TXL, or the S-Bahn from SXF right near the hotel. Bus stop is around the corner, the elevated S-Bahn three blocks down the street. Try this is in Paris, and you're looking at $750 for a room the same size, but still not decorated to taste. Yes, the hotel owners are Russian emigres, so what? They are present and obviously care how the hotel is run. Which is charming, eclectic. And as far as dumplings go, it wouldn't occur to me to ask in Europe. Might get me a surprising reply, I think. My place to stay in Berlin.
I didn't read the reviews before coming to the hotel so I can laugh now as I read the past reviews on this hotel. I booked this hotel because it offered breakfast included in the prices, location is good and it looked nice (from the outside). When we came to the hotel, the lift didn't work at first, it was very old fashion lift, but my husband managed to open it (turn the red button from stop to On). We met the hotel staff, he seemed cold at first, then somehow we asked if there was dumplings for breakfast as we spoke about Russian dumplings and the man seemed becoming nicer. We are not Russian. He showed us some nice options for German restaurants and helped us to book a delicious Georgian restaurant. Contrarily to other reviews, we found this man at reception nicest among the hotel staff (all Russian), the lady who works at night was quite rude, and others never smiled. So the trick to be treated nicely is either you show your interest about Russia, or you must be Russian speaker/origin :-) The hotel is very clean, but it is very old, especially the shower area. Furniture in the room is quite ugly contrary to the architecture of building, it makes you want to go out explore the city ! No fridge, no kettle in the room. Breakfast is quite ok, but no hot dishes. The location is very good, it is closed to many monuments and museums, and is packed with lots of choices of restaurants, from German to Italian, Vietnamese to Japanese.
Nice hotel and area. Hotel clerk is very abrupt. I asked about the elevator. I said it was broken he said not it is being renovated. WELL isn't that the said thing. He then had me a read a paper a across the desk posted on the walk that it is being renovated. Ok yes But I can't read that far...really. When you are checking in it shouldn't be with a clerk like him. As gr Guest we are tired and some from another country. I understand that Germans are much most matter a fact. But if you would like to get better reviews get someone with a smile. He did help me carry up my luggage.that was nice.
I booked this place for the convenience traveling to Tegel, which turned out to be very easy. The building and area it's located is also very elegant and unique feel. Maybe not touristy, but certainly full of charm. Didn't have breakfast, since I left early for airport. After my stay, I read some of the reviews, and couldn't agree more with the front desk guy ' attitude. He was rude and gave the wrong info about the restaurants 1 block from his place. Yet, I suspect either he is Russian himself or he feels only close to Russian people. Because at the same, he was smiling and offering lots of suggestions for direction, with patience, to a Russian speaking family that was right there. So, if you want to imagine what's like living in old building in west building, and limit your contact to the guy to absolute minimum, then you should try this hotel. At least, the area is certainly love.
Beautiful period Hotel literally 10 meters from Kurfürstendamm, hotel staff couldn't be more friendly and helpful, some really lovely features, including the antiquated lift which is adorable. The room was very comfortable and spacious.
Never in all my years travelling have I ever checked out with of a hotel within hours of checking in! And it only took me so long as I was trying to find somewhere else to stay! When your door is patched with wood and it's cold, rotting windows and peeling paint, you do wonder where it all went wrong. Stay as far away as possible
We arrived at 6pm on a freezing Monday night and were 'greeted' by the rudest man ever on reception. He stated he couldnt understand my name despite me spelling it. I also offered the booking reference but he stated i dont know them all!! Eventually he found the booking and we went to the room. The room itself had lovely wood panelling and was very warm when we put the radiator on. The shower however was in instrument of torture with one jet that contained all the power and actually hurt! Location wise it was really good anda short walk to lots of restaurants but not many bars. Would still recommend as the rest of the staff were fine.
