We selected this place to sty for one reason alone....these apartments were once part of the Berlin Brigade in the American Sector of West Berlin. These apartments were once part of the Andrews Barracks. My barracks were three buildinns down from this one and is still unoccupied. The old troop area is now part of some branch of the German government and the barracks and old motor pool have been either torn down for apartments of remodeled. The apartments appear to be rented out to visitors if they are not leased. Many in the building had permanent residents. It was well away from the busiy part of Berlin and you would have to catch a bus to get to the U-Bahn station if you wanted to look around and see the sights. Overall it was not a bad place to stay but after hours there is no one manning the desk area so if you happen to need someone, like we did you have to make a phone call. We actually had to leave early to get to our next location and I forgot some medication in the fridge. It was early in the morning and I had to make a call for assistance. The guy who answered was not very accommodating and was flat out rude at times. He eventually was able to have a key sent to us through the automated entry service and we were able to get on our way. If we return we would not stay here just for that reason. Sometimes you need assistance without anyone there to help you are at the mercy of a stranger on the other end of a phone.
The apartment hotel is about 15min walking distance to the S3 station Lichterfelde West. There are supermarkets and restaurants in a few min walking distance. The premise offers also free parking and free wifi. There is a kitchenette, fridge so you can prepare your own meals. But you can also get some breakfast there. Usually the check-in desk is not open 24/7 but you can always call from the entrance door in case you arrive late or need some help. The room and the bathroom were clean and spacious. The place is a good choice if you like to stay away from the busy city center.
I booked this apartment hotel coz it was New Years long weekend in Berlin and with everything being closed ,an apartment with self catering seemed like a good idea for kids and being vegetarian etc We booked and paid online Also sent a request online before our arrival for additional blankets and towels and kitchen utensils etc to be placed in unit On checkin with the German Jamaican BAD attitude lady We asked if the unit was as booked for a family of 4 and baby And that there was proper 4 bedding and the kitchen was fully equipped as we bought groceries especially for our stay Upon goin to the unit , we immediately discovered that we were placed in a dbl bed unit And 2 fold up beds were placed in the corner making the room cramped and both kids beds were practically on the wall heaters The kitchen had 1 pot only with NO additional pots nor pans nor cooking utensils There was NO blankets etc ( winter weekend in Berlin ) everything in the unit was for 2 pax only I went back to reception discuss my concerns AND was told that they were fully booked and head NO additional supplies , and that first thing in the morning she wil personally sort and deliver all missing items . At ten in the morning reception was still closed and nothing was yet delivered to my room . I went to reception to complain and there was no one but with a kitchen guy who was on his mobile outside and smoking and said it wasnt his problem Then I insisted he contact head office to sort out my issues I was told that I had NO patience and that they would open reception at 12noon and I should wait , my kids were hungry etc Which was unacceptable as we didn't eat the night before nor breakfast with no utensils in kitchen Eventually after throwing a tantrum the service guy came to my unit at 1030am with 1 pan and lifter and he confirmed that he was NOT informed of the short supply in my room etc We eventually got hold of the receptionist with BAD customer attitude and I voiced my concerns etc Her attitude was this , We were asked to leave the hotel and they cancelled our bookings and said we had no patience and they would upgrade us to a 4 sleeper later in the day after the guest checked out and they cleaned the room ( why upgrade I paid n booked a 4 sleeper ) and we were wasting another day New Year's Eve on waiting for them to honor our booking We flew in all the way form Africa for our vacation to Germany I explained that wasn't good enough and they were wasting my time and days And most places in Germany are closed for New Years After all that WE were told to vacate the hotel with the kids without dinner nor breakfast And if we didn't leave in 20 min she was going to call the police etc We were not afraid , as we had all our paperwork and booking in order And informed her to go ahead and call the police Which did NOT arrive btw lol She then came with 2 heavies to see if we left It was an ordeal to get a refund from the online booking agent But were seasoned travelers and had been many places around The world but this hotel apartment was the WORST place we've ever booked Wouldn't recommend it to my enemy that BaD And it's in the middle of now where 25min to Berlin in an apartment block of flats If you don't have a car and resources to gas . Your screwed Disappointed but lesson learnt South Africa
Very nice and clean apartments. We arrived late so reception was close. We use the machine for check in but we can't find us apartment, because all information in the lift was in German. My husband walk around all hotel and find them the apartment on the end of building, so we have to use a another door and another lift. We have got very loud people over us(was loud to 2 am at night). Nice staff and good breakfast. Free Wi Fi. We'll back soon.
We stayed there only one night but it was perfect for us. We were driving a car and it took us 40 minutes to the sony center. The only bad thing was that when we got there at 12 they were not working so we had to wait until 1 pm to have our check in done... Careful also if you'll arrive after 8 pm because nobody is at the reception... But I would sure go back there, we were 2 adults and 2 children and they kindly put an extra bed besides the sofa for every kid.
These apartments are large and comfortable with a kitchen. It would be nicer if they offered some basics like salt etc. but you really have to bring everything you need. There is an oven and stove and some very basic utensils and plates. WIFI is only 6 hours per day with SMS log in. This should be free 24/7 like the water is free 24/7 but not in this hotel.
The best thing about this hotel-apparment is the breakfast. Fresh fruit, bacon and real scrambled eggs and sausages. Coffee is ok. Espresso for 1 € extra and there is a garden for nice days. Architecture is awkward modern and souless. Computer outside for later arrives which will spit out your key if you don't arrive between 4 and 9 PM when the reception is manned.
great spacious rooms with balcony, thats very rare in Berlin! Friendly staff and good atmosphere. Excellent place to stay with kids due to kitchenette, washing machines and dryers. All necessary shops are near by and in walking distance, including a bakery, rewe, dm, pharmacy and few more.
Very good stay in hotel which was in past US Army base in west Berlin. Now it is modern hotel in quiet area with very good services and reasonable price. Rooms are big enough with possibility to have cold or hot beverage on the room. Parking is for free just in front of hotel. Also internet is available on the room. Breakfast was very good.
The name is reminiscent of a nursing home, but don't let that deceive you. These are modern and spacious apartments, with a large balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows. The bedding and linen are of great quality. The only reason why I gave this 4 stars is because it's quite a trek from the city centre - you'll need to hop on a bus and a train.
