A&O Berlin Friedrichshain

2.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

1. Noisy - full of school groups and generally inconsiderate people. Screams and shrieks until past 1130pm banging in hallways etc. Really hard to get a decent sleep at any point. - room windows open directly above the common bar area so not only do you get noise but your rooms fill with cigarette smoke. 2. Filthy - bathrooms: female toilets on level 2 out of toilet paper the entire stay, a disgusting and unhygienic mess of 'feminine fluids' was left in the toilet and over the floor for >24hrs without being cleaned. Boys bathroom smelt so rank that the entire of level 2 hallway was overpowered by the smell. - kitchen: utterly stinks of rotting food, tiny bar sized fridge is overflowing with rotting foods, minimal equipment to cook with and all felt greasy to the touch. - rooms: acceptable in that they are clean enough, but little else... Only two powerpoints in an 8-ppl dorm, and paperthin walls, noisy ++. 3. Great location - the only real saving grace, right near a train station, in a gorgeous area with tons of cafes bars etc, supermarket around the corner. 4. Staff - the majority were friendly and helpful, but a few of the male staff would literally ignore you while you waited patiently at the front desk to be served, you would have to wait for someone else to serve you.

Most unclean and unsafe hostel i've ever stayed in, "guests" trying to break into our room at 12:30am as well as vandalising our door, security was phoned but almost no action was taken. No security on hand and no janitor on site to fix damaged door. Showers and sinks full of pubic hair and ants, used condom within the eating area of the hostel and was not cleaned up or moved throughout the whole duration of our stay. Would definitely not recommend this hostel as it is disgusting and quite frankly unsafe!!!

Our twin room was in the main building/ground floor, right behind the reception. We could hear literally everything both from the corridor and the yard - the walls are like paper. If you want to sleep at all, remember to bring earplugs with you. Most of the hostel guests seem to be groups of teenagers, and they scream and shout in the yard all the time. Also, there was always people hanging out right behind our window so we had to keep the curtains closed all the time. If possible, try to get yourself a room from anywhere else but the ground floor. Then some good stuff: wifi is free and works great, room was clean and generally nice, bathroom also ok.

We were 5 people in a 6dorm room! The door couldn't close well, first night someone stole our money, second night my microfiber towel. The hostel can't do anything for us, no care about customers, no care about security! I don't recommend it at all

2 night in a private room. price: 62 € for 2 nights booked 3 months ago. Clean and tidy room, toilet, tv heating sistem. the hostel has 2 kinds of room, private ones and shared rooms. Easy to find, very close to a big train/metro station Ostkreuz, WITH DIRECT train to Schoenefeld airport.

We always stay here when on a school trip to Berlin. Very friendly and helpful staff used to school groups. Food is okay (Breakfast is good - evening meal is average). Only 5 minutes walk to the Ostkreus S train station.

Some friends of mine and me went to Berlin to celebrate Silvester and booked this Hostel. Overall - it wasn't a pleasant stay...the Groupshowers were dirty and in one of these there was even pee. The whole wing smelled either of chlorine or puke. In one room, there was a hole in the wall, covered with some tape. To be fair - we had some couples with us, that stayed in a double room located in an other wing. They had no complaints. Also the Ensuite-Rooms were okay to stay in for a party-trip.

I was there for 2 nights. At first I booked for four days but later changed it. Location is little far from s-bahn station. It takes 7-8 mins to walk there. But from s-bahn station alexandarplatz only 8 min away. Hostel stuff are not professional. You have to ask for everything you need they won't tell you anything by themselves. Even I have to ask for wi-fi information. Normally every hostel gives you this information when you check in. Toilet is so dirty. I tell them to clean it but they don't. And they have only 2 toilets for entire floor. They don't have any private toilet for every room. There one lidl near by so you can buy something from super market. There also few food shop there. In this hostel I don't feel comfortable.

I stayed here one night but that's all it took to get bitten by bed bugs. At first I thought it was mosquito, but then it was a rash like with little bites, and it's too cold in Berlin for mosquitoes. Plus they force you to pay extra for breakfast!!! I stayed in another hostel before this one in Alexanderplatz and it was exponentially better than A and O Friedrichshain!!!!

I only stayed at this hostel for one night. I rented a private room and was pleased with the price and the room itself. The breakfast was typical for the region. The receptionist who checked me in was outstanding. I'll definitely use this place if I am ever in Berlin.
