Take off the tax and this room cost £50 for a clean hotel room in central Reading with free parking, free wifi, free breakfast with tea, juice, croissant and cereal, free tea tray with Cadburys hot chocolate and branded tea/coffee, free chocolate biscuits, free toiletries and use of an iron and ironing board. I don't know what these people expect for the money but this was a bargain. I spent all of 20 minutes awake in the room so that fact the decor is a bit dated and the corridor carpets are faded, who cares? If you want more pay for more, perfect for a night out to see fiends, I'd probably avoid for a romantic weekend away though if you have more money but hey. I'd rather save the money for drinks! I'll be back!
The hotel is a short distance walk from the town centre which makes the stay quite noisy with the hotel being situated on the main caversham road...The room was comfortable and clean but apart from the reception lady being quite pleasant and helpful , we found the breakfast staff rude and ignorant...Our good morning welcome was a grunt , there was no Apple juice in the machine that response when asked if there was any was another grunt , then they carried on talking amongst each other taking no notice and not being helpful at all...And there idea of a continental breakfast was croissant and toast was laughable ...Sorry guys won't be returning
Spent 2 nights here and was surprised at the size of the room. Lots of space and places for clothes etc. We had a room on the side of the building so road noise wasn't a problem. We didn't have breakfast the first morning, opting to have a lie in, the housekeeping team left us be and even placed replacement tea, coffee, and towels outside the room. It was a little noisy due to people entering and leaving and we did smell cigarette smoke the first night. Overall a nice place to use as a stopover and would defintely use it again but the breakfast is extremely basic. Tea/coffee/juice, toast, cereal.
Great location, 10 min walk from reading station and town centre, double room was old fashioned but spotless and a comfortable bed for a good nights sleep. Staff where helpful and there was a nice selection for a continental breakfast.
A piece of you will die if you stay here. This is a budget hotel that you will regret from the moment you arrive: - the rooms are pokey and damp - it has a feeling of dankness - staff must be ex prison wardens - it is dirty Spend an extra £25-50 per night and stay elsewhere
Excellent location, close to the station. Rooms are clean but very dated. There is road noise but not enough to keep us awake. Overall a great stopover place but certainly not a holiday destination! Breakfast was bland, definitely don't be excited about it!
if you are used to your Premier Inn standard, do not go to this hotel. It is cosy in its own way, but it benefit is the location that was just 5 minutes walking from my client. Staff was always really nice. Breakfast was a bit small for my taste.
The hotel is comfortable enough with comfy beds and showers. The service is pretty awful. There is no cooked breakfast and the waitress sits texting on her phone whilst you blunder around trying to find everything you need for breakfast. The plug socket in my room was broken and parking is awful. They try and squeeze everyone into a tiny car park, getting you to leave your keys at reception so that they can shuffle cars around as people need to leave - a bit rubbish if you're at the back! I also got woken to explain how to turn my car engine on - not rocket science. Overall, not brilliant to say the least.
I was looking for apart-hotel options for a long stay (~3 to 4 months) while I was in Reading for a project in 2015. Rainbows lodge was one of the very few hotels that came up in the google search, with serviced apartments. While the email query did not elicit a great response, the staff was warm and friendly when I went there for a personal visit to check the rooms. As mentioned in the title, the hotel looks dated and may not appeal visually. That said, my requirements were for a serviced apartment and this hotel was able to offer that for a reasonable price. The breakfast is continental only, I would've preferred full English. Location is good - 7 mins walk from the Reading railway station and the city center, several restaurants, pubs and convenience stores all around. The Thames walk is just a 2 min walk from the hotel. The hotel also has an Italian restaurant which serves from authentic and rustic Italian fare. Overall, a good stay of more than 3 months.
From the outside and in the common areas, this place looks like an old guest house that's seen better days. The hall carpets look really grubby. The room was better (with the smallest shower I've ever seen), breakfast was fine and wifi worked fine. Room was only partly cleaned during my stay and the traffic noise is quite loud for rooms by the road. So overall just about ok, but definitely not worth the price. I would not return or recommend
