Hotel is very central in Reading - close to the train station and the shopping area Hotel is somewhat "cold" - both rooms and reception area - but comfortable. rooms are typical Novotel - but bedding of very good quality. Have not eaten there so can not rank the food but breakfast was nice, albeit a bit expensive
My family and I decided to book this hotel for a quick night away last minute just for some family time. We picked it as it had good reviews and ticketed all the boxes we needed. Our two small boys loved the pool which was never two busy and unlike some other hotels didn't have set time for kids swimming etc. The hotel is on a busy high street which was perfect for a bit of shopping as the shopping centre was only a few mins walk. The staff at the hotel were great and nothing seemed to be two much trouble. I emailed before asking for a cot in the room and if possible a higher room so to be away from the late night noise to help my two boys sleep. When checking in not only did we get a higher room we also got an upgrade to a bigger room. This was perfect as the cot could be put around the corner so my 10 month old was not disturbed with us watching tv. We had a great breakfast the next morning with the highlight being the automated pancake machine. There was lots of choice and with kids eating free it was great value for money. The only downside we could pick if had too was that there was no baby changing table in the swimming pool changing room. This was only a small thing but could be a quick fix for the hotel. All in all a great night away and we would happily gone back again.
I have to say the staff at the Novotel could not have been better. They were so eager to help and even gave out free toys on arrival to the children. Hotel room clean and lovely bed. Only slight comment that's not the fault of hotel but be aware of location at night can be noisy outside with night life but room was well insulated from noise.
We stayed for 2 nights to recover from our flight from Australia. Reading is a good spot and the Novotel is well located in the centre of town. Good pubs nearby to eat and good shopping all around. Recommend as a jumping off point to west and south of England.
Very well managed hotel, staff is lovely, knowledgeable and professional! Breakfast in the morning is of great quality, lots of different choices, cold buffet with the huge variety of food. I would like to praise Bruno for his lovely customers approach, he is a proper hotelier. Thank you so much for the lovely stay.
Great amenities and very friendly service. Very comfortable bed, slept soundly. Great shopping area with market. The pool was an added bonus after a busy day siteseeing or shopping, would return if visiting the area.
We stay at the Reading Novotel for a girls weekend once or twice a year. The location is perfect for shopping and going out in the evenings, the rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and the staff are excellent. In particular, the reception staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They even recognise us now when we return! They do their best to accommodate us all together, on a quiet floor of the hotel. A special mention for Jarrard who always goes out of his way to provide excellent customer service!
Stayed for 3 nights on business. For a hotel that markets itself as a 4*, there are a number of basic details that need work. On a positive note, the hotel is very clean and modern and the rooms are comfortable enough. However, some of the basics need work. For example, unbelievably, there is no towel hook in the bathroom to hang towels. Also, there is the usual plea, on a flyer in the bathroom, to reuse towels, yet there are no instructions on how to indicate this to housekeeping... usually, you would hang the towels up to reuse them. In the absence of a hook, I draped my towel over the shower door, but it was still replaced. Another item that seems so obvious is the lack of signage for the hotel car park. This is tucked into a back street at the rear of the hotel and is completely hidden from the road. A cramped shared driveway leads down to the car park and, from the road, it just looks like a service road or a dead-end. This really needs to be addressed with a large sign visible from Garrard Street. Additionally, on reaching the car park, there are no instructions on how to use it in terms of payment, hours of access, or if a ticket should be displayed, etc. These things are so basic, it's hard to understand how they have been overlooked. The hotel is not cheap (I paid around £200 per night), yet there is a £5 additional charge for room service and parking is £14 per day on top, too. Given the room rates and the 4* rating, I find this a little unpalatable. One final couple of niggles is that, back in the bedroom, the toilet and the bathroom are in separate rooms. This is a little odd and the toilet room is rather cramped. The other niggle is street noise if you're located on the Friar Street side of the building. I was for 1 night and had to switch rooms due to the noise at night from drunken revellers (and this was only on a Tuesday night). The hotel clearly recognise this is a problem as they provide ear plugs by the bed (a first to see this on my travels!) I dread to think what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night. After switching rooms, I could hear a pin drop, so I'd highly recommend requesting a room away from the Friar Street side if you want a good night's sleep.
The staff at the front desk went out of their way to make sure our stay with Novotel Reading Centre was helpful and successful by providing a detailed map of Reading with a bus time table to return our rental car.
